"The Gate" is a KLF album that was planned but never released nor recorded. In May 1990 the boys spent eight days on Jura to record the new album "The Gate". They thought that acid house, the hype of 1989, died too quickly. Thus they planned to do the definitive acid record that would end all other acid records. But they didn't record anything, and spent the days on the beach instead. They filmed themselves on the beach and that footage made the 45 minute video "Waiting". anders - ------------------------------ http://www.algonet.se/~anders/ # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info klf" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email klf@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # KLF discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?klf ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Oct 1998 14:45:39 -0600 From: "Thorne, Chris" Subject: (klf) Date: Fri, 2 Oct 1998 16:31:54 -0400 So since all KLF stuff has been deleted would MP3s be legal in this case? It's produced by Drummond, and on the innersleeve the is a text alot like "Bad Wisdom", referring to Arcbishop Gimpo of Plummels (or something like that) and Kingboy Drummond among others. The album is rockmusic (like backseat education on the mp3-collection). Why ain't this, and the other Drummond-produced things ("Crocodiles" by Echo and The Bunnymen and "Killimanjaro" by Teardrop Explodes) mentioned in the Discography. I have. I've ordered from them three times and have received good service all three times. One time they sent me the wrong CD, but they took it back without any problem and credited me not only for the CD, but also the postage it cost me to get it back to them. They are also one of the few places that make a distinction between in-stock stuff and stuff they have to order. Unfortunately, the language they use is confusing sometimes ("Last Copies" means they have it in stock but not very many copies, whereas "Currently Available" means they probably have to order it), but they do have a page where they explain it, so you can always look it up if you forget. Another problem is that their website is sometimes very slow when doing artist searches, and on some occasions, the "shopping cart" messes up and deletes things that you've put in it already. They are nice on the phone. I haven't tried emailing them with a problem, so I can't vouch for that. I've gotten some very cool stuff from them. Their prices are a little high sometimes, but you can get some good deals if you look. No. Copyright does not depend of the 'availability' of the music, it lasts for a fixed length of time (in the UK, until 70 years after the author's death, other jurisdictions vary). Anyway, the deletion applies only to the territories the KLF themselves sold the records too, so for example, TVT in America did not delete releases, so I can walk into a record shop and buy the US version of chill out, or one of the pile of IGUN singles that turned up recently in Wardour St., or the Timelords CD-v thingy, etc. if I know where to look. On the other hand, I'd be surprised if the KLF were not aware of the quite widely advertised bootlegs & MP3 sites that this list has spawned, and lawyers have conspicuosly failed to descend so far.... We did get ticked off about the Kalevala compilation though, as Mr Virtanen's desision to release the compilation album may be swayed by most of the potential audience buying the damn thing on bootleg without the original even appearing... - - andy R. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info klf" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email klf@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # KLF discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?klf ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Oct 1998 12:58:57 -0600 From: Lazlo Nibble Subject: Re: (klf) Drummond-produced album with Zodiac Mindwarp On Mon, Oct 05, 1998 at 12:57:49PM +0200, Ulrik Brandt Hansen wrote: > Why ain't this, and the other Drummond-produced things ("Crocodiles" by > Echo and The Bunnymen and "Killimanjaro" by Teardrop Explodes) mentioned > in the Discography.
