I'm not going to say what group I was with but I will say that I've been in that situation before, and I side with Bill. It's extremely annoying to be in a restaurant or out in public and be spotted somewhere by someone that you don't even know, and interrupted and grilled about your life. For me it's a bit like taking your work home with you every night and working on it 24x7. At first it was cute but then it became all the time. People who ask for autographs and want to meet you because you're even a wee bit famous don't ever consider whether you're in a hurry, whether you're sick, what fucked up thing just happened to you, or anything like that. They're not interested in you as a person or a human being. They're interested in gushing to their mates that they met you, and somehow feeling that they're better or greater or luckier than their average guy because they happened to be in the same room with you and they happened to know what you do for a living. It cheapens you, and it makes you feel that your work is artificial and means nothing. People who did it right are the ones who came up during soundcheck and asked if I was hungry, and took me for a bite or something like that ... or they asked PLATONICALLY whether I had a place to crash that night (because often I didn't) ... or they called up the management and had something to offer me that I could use ... maybe they were record collectors and knew what I was a collector of, maybe they were into SCA like my boyfriend and we could connect that way, but they went out of their way to make life just a little better or more interesting for me, and those are the ones that I became friends with and stayed in touch with. There are those that will call me an asshole for feeling this way, but that's their problem, and if I'd been Bill I might have said what he did, and I understand totally where he's coming from. c'ya Keef. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info klf" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email klf@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # KLF discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?klf ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Apr 1999 17:52:46 +0100 From: Dan Abel Subject: (klf) what time is love story > Mark Reed [SMTP:mar@markgenius1.demon.co.uk] >Has anybody noticed that Dr. Alex Paterson compiled and collated the >WTIL Story LP? yeah, yesterday when i bought it :-) was 14 quid a good purchase - lots of surface scratches but only a few 'pops' on the whole disc # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info klf" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email klf@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # KLF discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?klf ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Apr 1999 08:36:15 +0100 From: Dan Abel Subject: RE: (klf) THE STORY OF THE YEA > Panayiotis Liapis [SMTP:bizzzare_23@hotmail.com] wrote: >Sorry man, but Bill said that he burns down all fan-mail (including >mine i have to admit), so i doubt he's so keen to send memorabilia and >signed pics (remember the incident at the bar where this guy wanted >him to sign a copy of a 12" or smth!!) well i seem to remember he has no problems about signing a bottle of vodka (mostly empty at that point)... dan # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info klf" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email klf@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # KLF discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?klf ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Apr 1999 11:50:03 +0100 From: "David R. No need. I was there then. NIk tried to get Bill or Jimi to sign Justified and Ancient History. But they both refused saying it was all lies, none of it happened. I tried to get Bill to sign my copy of the Illuminatus Trilogy. He laughed and made to, but Jimi butted in saying he didn't write it. At the end of the evening NIk managed to get Gimpo to write Bollocks on his book and that was it. However at the Bad Wisdom reading tour, Bill and Gimpo and Zed were only too happy to sign anything and everything. I saw it man. It's actually by The Sons Of Silence (Black Helicopters being an assumed name, of course), and released through Leaf, the label they're on. The A-side is a first-rate 15-minute Plunderphonic ride through 60s and 70s rock (lawyers, start your engines), and the B-side has two more sample-happy tracks, the first being another rock-ish thing and the second being all spoken-word (and very funny).
