Hmmm, let me put it this way. After playing it, I wholeheartedly agree with the above average but NOT outstanding mark videogames.com gave shenmue. I give Sega a lot of credit for pushing 3-D gaming into this field, it is really a virtual reality without the goggles. Aside from that, the problem with Shemue is the Banjo-Kazooie effect. It is the best looking game of all, and it features some neat gameplay options including the aforementioned interactivity, playing old sega arcade/saturn games, but it doesn't shatter any benchmarks, the game merely improves on them, much in the same way BK improved on Mario 64. And A lot of hardcore sega fans hoping shenmue would kick ps2 out of the field will be disappointed with the graphics for sure, but but i'll keep that to myself for now. One thing I didn't like too much is that there are some extreme rpg elements in the game, like taking pages of notes and phone numbers from people you meet and then using those leads to move on in the game. very similar to those pc rpgs like shadowgate. - -- Dexter S.
