Piracy does suck (despite comments I've made previously on the list - I'm not entering that arguement) buuuut I fail to see how old Nintendo ROM's are robbing the big N of any profit - for that matter, N64 ROM's hardly acocunt for any profit loss (at least over here) cos theres nothing you can play them on. While there are quite a few great 8 Bit emulators, and a few nifty nintendo ones, I doubt that they are stealing Nintendos profits directly. If you ask me, any software over 5 years old should become public domain - software isn't generally subject to the same longevity as other areas covered by copyright. Mind you, some businesses use software to run the company thats over 20 years old. Maybe I better re-think this! You have to beat the Control Center in Secret Agent mode in under 10 minutes, right? Something wierd happened to me. As you all know, I recently beat the C. Center in Secret Agent mode. Well, I tried to get the cheat and the first try I got 10:34. I mean that's not so bad. On the second try I got 9:42 which means I got the cheat by 18 seconds. When I completed it, all the objectives said complete and I turned to the next page. I said time: 9:42 and Target: 10:00. It didn't say anything about a new cheat. Why I pressed next, the next page was the control center again. I swear that I didn't use any cheats. The only time a bond will have to restart a level is when he cheats, gets killed, or fails an objective. That really pisses me off. I even checked the menu with the Single player, Multiplayer, etc. and it didn't say I used a cheat. Didn't anybody have the same problem or is it just a minor error on my game and if it is, does that mean I can never have the infinite ammo cheat. Did I miss anything? Where did you get these so-called cheats? For all I know, I think they are fake. If there was a jump mode, you could jump off stuff? You would be able to jump into water and Jump into holes in the ground. The only time you could jump into something and die is at the end of the cradle(I think). DELETE THIS MESSAGE IMMEDIATELY IF YOU CANNOT EMOTIONALLY HANDLE ANY NEWS PIECE THAT CONTAINS BAD NEWS ABOUT NINTENDO (cough, DAC, cough)! Nintendo Map Suit Falls At First January 7, 1998 Nintendo has lost the first round of its legal battle against Prima Publishing. Nintendo lost its first round with Prima when its request for a preliminary injunction against Prima Publishing's GoldenEye 007 Unauthorized Game Secrets was summarily denied. The lawsuit charged Prima with copyright infringement of Nintendo's own maps. But on December 24th, United States District Judge William L. Dwyer of the Western District of Washington took the unusual step of issuing an order without waiting for the customary oral arguments by opposing counsel. According to the order issued by Judge Dwyer, Nintendo failed to prove the elements necessary to win an injunction, namely actionable copying by Prima. The Judge found that much of Nintendo's maps consisted of factual material that is not protected by copyright. "We are pleased but not surprised by Judge Dwyer's decision. When initiating their action for a preliminary injunction, Nintendo came out, guns blazing, and made wild accusations concerning Prima. We said then, and we still believe today, that Nintendo's action was prompted primarily by their displeasure over Prima's growing preeminence in the strategy guide area, where our two companies sometimes compete. In responding to the judge's decision, Ben Dominitz, Prima's president and founder said, "We harbor Nintendo no ill feelings. We can only hope that this resounding legal rebuke will have served as a useful lesson that the best way to deal with Prima is through direct and honest communication, not attempts at intimidation." I'm sure most of you remember Nintendo's lawsuit against Prima. Anyway, I thought the lawsuit was a waste of Nintendo's time and resources anyway--I would have much rather seen their legal department go after pirates, but that's just me. :) - -- Be sure to patronize NGO at http://www.next-generation.com - -Tyler V Snow tvsnow@usa.net [ To quit the n64 mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe n64" ] [ (without the quotes) to majordomo@xmission.com ] ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 06 Jan 1998 19:55:29 -0700 From: Tyler V Snow Subject: [N64] More Nintendo 64 Delays (Banjo-Kazooie!?) // News from NG Online More Nintendo 64 Delays January 7, 1998 Banjo-Kazooie and MLB featuring Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball have both suffered yet another delay. While it was greatly disappointing to have both Banjo-Kazooie and MLB Featuring Ken Griffey Jr. get pushed back from the Christmas season, Nintendo 64 owners are likely to be even more annoyed in the face of additional delays. Banjo-Kazooie has now slipped from March to a July release. The result is likely to reduce the chances of Zelda 64 shipping any time this summer given that Nintendo won't want to compete with its own titles for sales. Given that Acclaim's All-Star Baseball is slated to ship in April, the company should be relieved to hear that Nintendo's MLB featuring Ken Griffey Jr. has been delayed until May. - -- What bugs most about this latest delay, in the second paragraph it says Zelda 64 isn't likely to ship this summer. It seems nintendo is working to compete, using the N64DD, with WebTV, and other such networks. This may be something VERY interesting!!! --- The DD, (Dynamic Drive,), may be more Dynamic than as i thought it would be. Straight from The Nintendo Sixtyfour Underground: "Nintendo, in conjunction with Nomura Research Institute and Microsoft, plans to create a satellite service much along the same lines as WebTV. We'll have more information as it becomes available." We=B4ll just have to wait and see. - -- felp, http://xoom.com/felp/ fegarcia@mail.internet.com.mx ICQ UIN: 2684048 [ To quit the n64 mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe n64" ] [ (without the quotes) to majordomo@xmission.com ] ------------------------------ End of n64-digest V1 #136 ************************* [ To quit the n64-digest mailing list (big mistake), send the message ] [ "unsubscribe n64-digest" (without the quotes) to majordomo@xmission.com ]
