Oh, the fact that NGC was built around proprietary technologies.  At this stage, I'd say it's closer to the SNES than the 64.

Just because it has so many built in hardware features that essentially circumvents the need to have super powerful processors.   Not that Gekko or flipper isn't powerful.

The 40 megs of RAM on the NGC may look less than X-Box's 64 Megs, but the fact that Nintendo's number isn't a power of 8 (typical of ram sizes) 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512 is because the GC uses a mixture of RAM to maximize performance. the GC uses 16 megs of 100 Mhz D-Ram with a main memory of 24 megs of 1T-SRAM, whereas Microsoft is going the PC route and throwing in 64 Megs in one big chaloopa. They may have upped the number, but to my knowledge they stopped at 64. Those numbers of course does not include Internal Cache in the Gekko Chip and the imbedded Texture Cache in the Flipper chip. - -- Dexter S. Also, if you're a developer, do you really want to be working on the 'old' system? I think CBFD will make it on the N64 because it's been in development since... forever. I'm not sure Rare's interested in holding it any longer. As far as ED and DP are concerned, I don't know. Both would definately benefit from being upgraded to the NGC hardware, but how much time would it take? Is it that easy to port from the N64 to the NGC? Somehow I doubt that. Nintendo's always 'managed' their release lists more than gamers would like (weren't a few gamers ready for release but NOA held them back for a while because of 'competiton' from other N64 products?). We'll probably see these DP and ED, unless we're distracted by the GC or X-Box, or something else. When you think about it, BFD and ED have been in development for quite some time; wouldn't switching platforms this late in the game make for not only an unimpressive NGC title, but wouldn't it also open up so many more possibilities for the game that Rare and Silicon Nights might end up scrapping many of their original ideas (which would then translate into more money spent on the title and thus a longer development period for NGC)? It really doesn't seem to make sense. Would the money they would make porting them to the NGC really be that much more then money they would get by releasing them SOON for the N64? Oh, and anyone who says "GameCube" or "GCN" should be shot. First, it's Gamecube, like Dreamcast. It's not a wannabe Sony product here, just like DC isn't DreamCast. And GCN? "Gamecube Nintendo"?
