I'll probably buy GC the first day it comes out. Yep...I have had mine pre-ordered with SE for months now :-) >Now that we are > at the end of N64's life cycle, do you think Nintendo can do a better job > with Gamecube? I sure hope so...the N64 was basically the bore machine. Sure, there were some truly fantastic games...but the gaps between each one was enormous. Except for Mario64, Goldeneye, Zelda, and BK...I could have lived without the rest. Fortunately, those games alone really justified my purchase of the N64, but it spent most of it's life collecting dust. >Or will Gamecube repeat history which is being second > place console, having the same games: Mario 2, Zelda 4, Rare games, No rpg > games, etc. Or will GameCube sell really well and surpass ps2 in number > of systems sold worldwide making it the #1 console? I think it will be better this time around because they ditched the lame-o carts. As for the PS2...I'm not sure, Sony has had a lot of time to build up a lead, but they have really squandered most of this time with lack luster software when they should have been digging Nintendo's grave. It will largely depend on the software for the PS2 between now and the GC's launch (especially the software just before and right at the launch of the GC). If they crank out some very good titles (GT3 for example) between now and then, it could again be very hard for Nintendo to catch up...especially trying to fight the XBOX at the same time. For me, I haven't played any of my systems in quite while now....well, I did play Conker, but it wasn't all that good. I'm holding on to some big hopes for Twisted Metal Black...I truly hope that game kicks ass and breathes new life into the vehicular combat genre. If it turns out as great as it has looked so far, then my faith in the PS2 will be restored....for others GT3 may do the same. Nintendo has done a great job so far in nullifying the third party factor. It looks like GameCube will be getting any big third party games that X-box and the PS2 will be getting. It comes down to the exclusives. X-Box will have a lot of exclusives from PC developers, but I see the problem with that is they will probably tend to be many games coming out for the same genre. I'm pretty sure the X-box will probably have the largest collection of first person shooters when it is all said and done. Sony looks to have exclusivity with Squaresoft and several titles from Konami and the like. And Nintendo will have its first party and second party line-up. If you look at it that way, GameCube will be very competitive when it comes to comparing the exclusives. - -- Dexter S. Factor 5 is claims that in one particular scene where we see the back end of the Star Destroyer I scanned it and uploaded it here: http://www.geocities.com/teamreavers/starass.jpg the exhaust and back end of the ship consist of 130,000 polygons. With the game running at 60 fps, that's 7.8 million polygons per second just on the ass eer... back end of the ship. We can add in the B-Wing and X-wing, atmospheric effects , additional polygons being drawn just offscreen, the starfield (probably a big polygonal sphere with starfield textures) and it could easily be 10 million plus polygons per second. And that includes texturing, anti-aliasing, mip-mapping, lighting effects, various texture passes which is said to include dirt mapping, bump mapping (not implemented in the screenshot), specularity, illumination maps. Boy of boy :) I'm really blown away. I know GameCube would be powerful, but to actual sit down and comprehend the numbers it is capable of even when all these effects are turned on is astonishing. The background music is also said to be good. The editors claim it is a "beautiful orchestral score by John Willians, now in incredible DVD quality sound, punctuated by the droning cries of passing TIE fighters." And I'm sure you folks would be interested in Next-Generation's first hand impression of whatr it feels like to hold the GameCube controller.
