Okay, well, this was a first with me when I bought my N64 because all of the other First Person Shooters I had played were in the tranquility of my office, where there was much light and plenty of distractions. When I first played Doom and Wolfenstien 3-D, I never really got absorbed in the games. I just played. But one day, when I was playing Turok, it started to rain, so I turned off all of my lights in my room (where I play the N64). Anyhoo, I was playing the Catacombs level, and I had tons of ammo, but little health. I had somewhat grown accustomed to the darkness of this level, but the screams really were freaking me out. The... BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!! A Pur-Lin SMASHED through a walll, and started to run after me. I was so freaked I dropped the controller, and and all night I was turning, looking over my shoulder, making sure the Pur-Lin was gone. I mean I was FREAKED!!! The same thing happened to me again, I was past that part, and according to the on-screen map, I should be close to the warp, and CRASH!!! another Pur-Lin!!! Let's just say that I never play Turok ever again without and extra pair of pants near by. This is the way all games should be, so immersive that you actually can get scared by 'em. ~Dash [ To quit the n64 mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe n64" ] [ (without the quotes) to majordomo@xmission.com ] ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Jan 1998 23:23:13 EST From: Link64TooT Subject: Re: [N64] Can games scare you??? I found the room, and as I walked in I noticed this guy sitting at a computer, wearing a little plastic "sleeve" on his right index finger. He was playing a slalom skiing game. The guy standing at the computer explained that the game didn't use controllers, but your mind instead. I asked if I could try it, and he said I could. YES!! He said I could stick the "sleeve" on any of my fingers. I stuck it on my right index finger. The game is in 1st person, and my skier looked left then right a couple times while letters appeared on the screen which read "Mind Drive Adjusting". Now then this is the cool part. I just sat and watch the screen, and "controlled" the skier with my mind. It was really cool. They wouldn't tell me how it works, but I think it works something like a lie detector. I noticed I veered off to the left when I got relaxed (on straight-aways), but turned right when I got tenser. So it would only work for games (like skiing) where there are only two real options (like left or right in skiing). I noticed a little bit of tingling on my finger, but felt more like a bit of pressure on it. This seems like a VERY easy thing to make, and would be great for the N64. I hope that Nintendo makes something like it soon.
