That is actually an excellent idea. The recent TV thread generated many responses; hopefully we can get the same type of response from more on-topic topics. OK, here's a few things anyone can comment on: - -The American 64DD will not ship with a modem... Will this news affect your thoughts of the add-on? Will you definitely not buy it now? - -What do you think about the lastability of N64 games? Yes, a lot of N64 games have good replay value but lastability is more important (to me) than replay value is. So far the only games I have felt gave me my money's worth are Mario 64 and Diddy Kong Racing, and possibly Blast Corps. My main gripe with the system is that most games are too short, and depend on you replaying the game or playing the game multiplayer (which sucks because games like Starfox 64 and Mario Kart 64 aren't really that fun multiplayer, but Goldeneye is awesome) to give you any value; I say the real value should come in the actual game. I think we need more cooperative games--the Diddy Kong Racing adventure mode is incredibly fun if you play it two player co-op, but is fun enough if you just play it one player. - -Tyler V. For whatever reason, a lot of people seem to assume that Nintendo's next gen system will double the bit technology like those in the past have. This is simply not the case as no one will be able to create a 128-bit chip at a cheap enough price in the next few years. While Nintendo was successful making a 64bit chip for the home market with the N64, the reality is that 64 bit processors are in their infant stage. Intel's next gen PC chips will be based on a 64 bit architecture as well. Nintendo will likely come up with a new system that uses 64-bit graphics but with the capability of rendering 10-20 times of the polygons that the N64 did. It is loaded with replay value, and pretty much everyone I know can watch and play it. However, when everyone else is gone for bed, I load Quake2, which has a multiplayer game to die for. You ever played Goldeneye007? I am pretty sure you have. 4 players? Bah!! Try 32, all jumping around and screaming and in a level with so much detail and such vast size. Large levels, tons of strategy. I also liked Duke Nukem 3D near it's release, for similar reasons. Very comical. Oh, and although most gamers would laugh at this, I also think that Myst and Riven are my all time favorites, for you can play them at any time, and they are always fun to just explore, and see such beautiful things. Just moving around and seeing things. Once you don't play for a year or so, it becomes a whole new thing again. I must say that I am one of the few people who can appreciate it for what it is. I loved FZero for the SNES, the first racer I played. All the Nintendo games are great, period. Fun and addicting. I think that as far as board games go, Monopoly has it there. Actually, looking at the release lists, Japan is the only viable market to release the 64DD in. There is actually very little software slated for the add-on that will appeal to mainstream America. Basically, it will need at least one killer app to even be a moderate success in America--this may mean waiting for Mario 64 2 or Zelda 64 2 to be finished. And no, you can't really count Mother 3 as being a killer app--RPGs have never been system sellers in America (FFVII may be considered one, but Mother 3 won't have the flashy movies to advertise it as well as FFVII was advertised). On the other hand, almost all 64DD games in development will appeal to mainstream Japan. The Pocket Monster games, Mother 3, Zelda 64 2, etc. will be definite must-haves for Japanese gamers. - -Tyler V.
