I more concerned about the quantity of quality of the RPGs for the console. I think Nintendo can carve quite an RPG empire for itself if it simply assembles new teams to make new games. They've proven they could coax high quality RPGs out of developers like Camelot and Brownie Brown. So why not do more of it? An orginal Rpg a year can't do them much good, especially if its on the GBA and not the GameCube. All we know is that there's going to be 350, and the game is probably going to be released in Japan this Christmas. Pokémon's story, as far as RPGs go, isn't deep. That's made up for in the teams. It's a strategy RPG, and, as that stands, it's one of the toughest ones ever. Now, with 350 pokémon, there's a possible 2,445,484,347,775 different teams of 6 pokémon one can choose. Try and tell me it's not going to be hard coming up with a team that no one can beat. It's very unlikely it could happen. As far as things go for Gamecube, I'm hoping at the very least for an online stadium. At best, I'm hoping for a fully 3D RPG with internet capabilities. Man, it will be sweet. Then again, if it's released sometime in the first half of next year, I might not be able to get it for a while. :-( Well, we'll see how it goes. Oh, and end note: the new legendary Pokémon birds are so freakin' cool! :-) Can't wait to see the fifth movie. - -Satoshi _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com [ To quit the NGamers mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe ] [ NGamers" (without the quotes) to majordomo@xmission.com ] ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 07 Apr 2002 05:25:26 -0700 From: "Dexter S." And even if that doesn't work, Nintendo simply willing an on-line strategy by packing in a modem on a couple of high profile games will do the trick. The company knows it has the luxury of dictating its own terms on when to introduce on-line play. And given the expensive alternatives Sony is offering, and Xbox's non presence in Japan, they are in no hurry to rush it. > [ To quit the NGamers mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe ] [ NGamers" (without the quotes) to majordomo@xmission.com ] ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 08 Apr 2002 17:49:12 -0500 From: "Eric C" Subject: Re: [NG] speaking of RPG's >From: "Lloyd Millard Mccoy Jr." >Reply-To: NGamers@lists.xmission.com >To: NGamers@lists.xmission.com >Subject: Re: [NG] speaking of RPG's >Date: Mon, 8 Apr 2002 16:53:37 -0400 (EDT) > >Juding from Nintendo's ambiguous online strategy I doubt if a Pokemon game >released even next year would be online but we'll see. :) > >It seems that a 350Pokemon game will have a lot of complexity and replay >value. As for the online plans, I know Nintendo hasn't seemed too excited about getting it going, but some reports have said the modem is ready and supposed to come out with Phantasy Star Online. Not sure if all that's true, but it does seem likely that Pokémon will eventually be online. That game NEEDS an online battle mode. Well, my $.02 ;-) Oh, and side note: it seems that Miramax now has the rights to the fourth and fifth Pokémon movies. Not sure how that'll turn out, but the dubbed Celebi movie NOT being done by 4Kids Entertainment sounds like a plus already. I have seen Serebii Toki o Koeta Deai (fourth movie in Japanese), which is great (definitely a huge improvement over the somewhat disappointing third movie). One of the analysts, Chris Whitmore of Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown, said part of the problem came from weaker than expected sales of the $299 console at the consumer level. The Xbox debuted in the U.S. last November, in Japan in February and in Europe in March. Flextronics manufactures it for all three regions under a contract analysts have said could be worth at least $1 billion a year. Analysts said on Tuesday that production has slowed, jeopardizing Microsoft's target of shipping 4.5 million to 6 million units worldwide by the end of June. The slowdown also hurts Flextronics, which Whitmore said books revenue as the video game players leave the production floor. "Xbox momentum is slowing from an easy start," Banc of America Securities analyst Paul Fox wrote in a note to clients. That factor, coupled with trouble with customers in the optical networking business, could make Flextronics' near-term revenue growth plans difficult to achieve, he added. In midday Nasdaq trade, Flextronics shares were off 69 cents, or 3.9 percent, at $16.86, while Microsoft fell $1.66, or 2.9 percent, to $55.56. A Microsoft spokeswoman could not immediately comment on the reports. While Microsoft has claimed strong sales for the Xbox in the United States, at least in its initial holiday season, the company has admitted it is not meeting expectations in Japan, a market where it was expected to have difficulty. "Japan is going well on the software side and probably is a little behind where we want to be on the hardware side," Xbox director Robbie Bach told Reuters in an interview last week. In its regular global video game survey last week, Goldman Sachs said U.S. retailers showed a "surprisingly clear" preference for Sony Corp (news - web sites).'s PlayStation 2 (news - web sites) over the Xbox. "Bearing in mind that the PS2 and Xbox are aimed at the same target demographic," the brokerage said, "we believe the PS2 wins the vast majority of head-to-head in-store comparisons."
