I suppose to be really cautious, we can't claim failure or success in any market just yet, not until after this second Christmas. It should to be noted that Nintendo's only 1 or 2k units behind in North America, and a lot of it has to do with shortages due to the company having to ship units to Europe for its launch as well as supply Japan where the unit's sales has kept pace with America. A big title could change the situation over here and I believe Nintendo has a real shot of pulling away this Fall. Especially with the company's apparently new committment at courting powerful developers and locking a few major third party franchises/ Xbox isn't going to destroy anything, and I don't think it's going as Microsoft planned. Contrary to their proclamations of unexpected success, the 1.3 to 1.6 million they sold out of the opening gate was expected and predicted, or else they wouldn't have manufactured and supplied so many units so in a matter of months. logistically, that just can't happen. You have to have the parts and capacity ready to handle this. So far in 2002 however, They've hit a geniune snag in their plans , Europe's reception is downright chilly, Japan's launch is nothing less of a flop, with the Xbox showing up in most charts as trailing DC sales, and in some charts, trailing GBC sales. One of Sega's supposedly "popular" titles, JSRF, has failed to make an impact. It casts doubts into their supposedly sweetheart line-up from Sega, and I'm sure the sales of Sega titles on GameCube, which has been good so far, especially with Sonic topping the charts and PSO ep1 and 2 apparently being a hotly anticipated title in Japan could well swing the pendulum of Sega support the other way. Lots of stupid people out there my boy, can't see a great game it they was smacked in the face with it. Same thing happened with Jet Grind Radio. Oh well. Nothing is fair in this world. Heck, I saw at least 6 copies at Target when I got the game, all marked at &7.99! But, like I said, it's a niche title. Now as to why is that the two of you feel indifferent towards Jet Set Radio Future? Have either of you played it, or even seen it in motion? Or is it just pictures and Quicktimes and maybe the 30 fps Bink videos on OXM demo DVDs? Let me break it down for all of you. It's fast. You have to make quick decisions, at least later on in the game. But at heart it's a 3-D platformer on inline skates. Skates that go real fast. Much much faster than Jet Grind Radio, I know since I started a new game of JGR yesterday and was surprised on how slow it feels. There's a 'collecting' aspect to the game, which are Graffiti Souls (much bigger and shinier than in JGR) which must be found or unlocked by passing certain requirements like getting high scores or stringing together wast amounts of tricks while grinding. It has a story, it's no Xenogears or Shakespeare, but it does move things along. I beat the game (fought the big nasty boss and got an ending to the story and a staff roll) a few weeks ago but still find myself playing it about 1 to 2 hours a day just trying to get everything. And you should know by now that this isn't out of desperation for something to do, I do have other games unfinished and I don't keep playing bad or boring games just for the sake of something to play. I highly reccoment all of you with XBOXes or those who want an XBOX to buy Jet Set Radio Future. The gameplay is pretty darn good with only one little thing that can bother me sometimes. Sometimes I find myself grinding the wrong direction, but it's pretty minor. So it's not perfect, but it's leaps and bounds from Jet Set/Grind Radio. The graphics are intense. I have yet to notice any pop-up and there was only one time where there was some minor slowdown, but it didn't ruin the moment or anything. You can also design your own tags, and the design tool, while it's no Photoshop (Amped.. heheh) it is good enough to make somebody with no artistic talent look like they do have some talent. But I kept most of my tags (except the huge one) to extreme profanity. BUY THIS GAME. ===== ** Dave ** super_trey_bros@yahoo.com AIM: Sanrio Velocity Felt like a bulldozer trying to catch a butterfly. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I've played JSR, or whatever its called when Sega ported it over here, on DC. It's a nice looking game. I can see why some people would like it (some of my friends did) but I don't like it. There are really on 2 claims being made here. 1) I don't care about the game 2) It's not selling well. Of course, it's not gloating, as I have no reason to hate the game, but it's simply a claim on the effectiveness of the game on the Xbox, and one wonders, how effective future Sega titles will be. Looking at how well Sega games have done on GameCube and PS2, one could make the assertion Sega games are best as complements to a strong software library, not its core, as MS seems to want to make it.
