But I think it has gotten a bit stale. Basically, if you have played one, you have played them all. They all play identical to each other...which is not necessarily a bad thing (except the control scheme has a very stiff feel to it), but does get old, IMO. The series really needs a new story line and better control. BUT, if you have never played any of the games, then I would buy the Cube version since you may find you really like it a lot. As for the Silent Hill games, I prefer them to the RE games. The scare factor is more intense and the atmosphere is much darker and freaky (i.e. demonic in nature). RE and RE2 play a lot the same as far as control, but RE3 has the quick turn and dodge feature and Code: Veronica also has the quick turn and I think the dodge feature, I can't remember for sure. Also in RECV the knife is much more powerful (if used correctly) and then in RE:DC, RE3, and RE:CV they have the semi lock on for aiming feature. I think RE2 on the DC has that too. I don't know if RE:GC has the semi auto-aim, but I read it does have the quick turn. Jill sandwitch. I have yet to play RECVX or Biohazard CV Complete. But as far as overall scare factor, I think RE2 is the best of the series, when playing as Claire. Although RE3 comes close when you low on ammo and you haer the low growl of Nemesis. =) But I'm a biased sorce of information, I guess. But I got tired after many 30 min battles (that endless appearing of enemies was way too similar to Turok 1 and that was annoying) and missions without any motivating story, or better to say there was no motivation to see what'll happen next. Ok, it's a action game but Capcom made a much better story with Onimusha. I guess, I stopped playing when I was in mission 13 or higher. I have always played the RE and Silent Hill games at night with the lights off. I have had a friend or two watch me a few times, but the scare factor still works with it being dark and everyone engrossed in the game (i.e. not just chatting to each other). I felt exactly the same way about the game. When i first started playing I thought the game was great....great music, superb graphic, very good control, and the fights were fun...at first.
