People may have bought the game used from a "Game X Change" store and it had no manual and they rented the game to get one. Another factor has to be piracy. I know one friend of mine who buys CDRs of PSX games then rents the game to get the manual for it. Or he rented the game, found he liked it, kept the manual, then bought the CDR. Or some people may just think he manuals are cool and keep them just to have them. Got to go >for the 'standard' size I'm afraid when you're designing a game. Hmmm... Sounds interesting, but I'm still not 100% convinced that the writability of the 64DD is so ground breaking. I wonder how much storage space is required for these games that have an internal AI that will grow and change as you play. Could this information not be stored on a controller pak? Certainly, a game that needs a larger controller pak is not ideal, but this larger pak could always be packaged with a "launch" game, and this game/pak combo would certainly be cheaper than the 64DD. A 4x pak has about 1 MB of storage, and 32x (8 MB) and 99x (25 MB) are on the way. Wouldn't this be a feasible alternative to storing info on the 64DD? Could games be sold with a special controller pak, that had extra memory for game play writability, as well as game textures and sounds stored on it? Would the production cost be too high for this? Mind you, I still think that the 64DD is going to be great. Super Mario 64 and the upcoming Zelda 64 really shows off what the N64 is capable of. Now imagine what could be possible if the RAM was doubled, and the storage capactiy was increased between two to eight times (depending on whether you compare it to 8 MB cart or 32 MB cart)! matt ma [ To quit the n64 mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe n64" ] [ (without the quotes) to majordomo@xmission.com ] ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Mar 1998 13:57:35 EST From: Trey Table Subject: [N64] N64 GameShark Has anybody expirmented with their N64 GameShark and found any codes worthwhile? How expensive are connections (Internet, phone) in other countries? While I think the 64DD would do fine without a modem, it might be wise to offer it separately. The rest of us could just use our existing modems (with a few hassles, of course). Keep in mind many people don't own a modem either, and they might like to purchase one for use in their 64DD. If a modem is included, I agree that it would probably be too expensive and of lower quality anyway. ************************************************************************ Mark J. Any other system with a lack of 3rd party software would have died long ago, like the Turbo Grafx-16 or the Sega Master System. (I am talking about the American market, I heard the SMS was quite popular in Europe.) I don't really care if Nintendo doesn't get any new 3rd party developers (though Capcom would be nice), the titles that Nintendo, Rare, Konami, and Midway alone are enough to keep the system afloat in my humble opinion. Hopefully, Zelda 64 will come out in Q3 as it is now scheduled. There should be two semi-RPG games coming out before that: Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (April) and Quest 64 (June). Screen shots from both games look really nice; I'm really looking forward to these games to tie me over 'til Zelda comes out! matt ma [ To quit the n64 mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe n64" ] [ (without the quotes) to majordomo@xmission.com ] ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 05 Mar 1998 19:25:31 +0100 From: Siemon Subject: Re: [N64] What game to buy?
