ASB actually sounds pretty good, until they start saying the same thing over and over again. NHL '98 on PSX is an example of excellent commentating. Try it before you knock it. Just like on TV, wouldn't you like to know who just intercepted the bad pass, or who just gave a huge body check into the boards? NHL '98 has a play-by-play guy who will tell you who did what, while the color guy will give you his stats, and tell you how well he's doing in the game. The commentating is varied, fast-paced, and very exciting. Believe me, if it can make you think you're listening to a TV broadcast, it definately adds to the game. matt ma [ To quit the n64 mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe n64" ] [ (without the quotes) to majordomo@xmission.com ] ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Jul 1998 13:28:43 -0600 From: Matt Ma Subject: Re: [N64] Rocker Paks >>> Chris Clark 07/15/98 10:06am >>> >Well, even though there were no responses to my original question >about how Nyko powers their battery-less N64 Rocker Paks, I found out >that they get +5 volts from the controller itself. FWIW, I've found that I like the Nintendo brand ones the best. The rumble vibrations have the greatest range, unlike my "Force Pak," (black case with red light), which seems to only be able to rumble on one setting: hard. It is also quite noisy. My Naki rumble pak also has a very broad range of rumble vibrations. Unfortunately, it requires 3 AAA batteries and it eats them up extremely quickly! I probably have to change the Naki batteries about 3 or 4 times for every battery change in the Force Pak. matt ma [ To quit the n64 mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe n64" ] [ (without the quotes) to majordomo@xmission.com ] ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Jul 1998 13:05:17 -0600 (MDT) From: "win-thug@juno.com" Subject: Re: [N64] Old list members and new Well. I should have been more thoughtful and included the code, but here it is. D0064F31 0030 800D33ED 0050 880D33ED 0000 I believe you can't use it with any other codes on. Then go to the dam, go down the ladder at the second guard tower and then move next to the water just to the left of the tower and press the L and R buttons at the same time and try walking toward the island. You may have to try the button combo a couple of times but it will work. If it doesn't, then move over a bit on the dock and try again. The site I got it off of said to move to the end of the dock that sticks out right behind the tower but I couldn't get it to work from there but could on the walkway to the left of it. This code also let's you walk through the mountains behind the island and back around the dam. The gameshark has been a GREAT purchase for Goldeneye. Now, instead of just turning codes on that are in the game, you can program in codes that will help you beat the game itself, not just the ones in the cheat menu. This helped me to open up the aztec level whereas, it was going to take me WAY too long to beat all the levels on secret and 00 level. I've got too much on my plate already and it was a great time saver. Plus, the cheats add another dimension to the game that make playing it more fun... So, why aren't there >more good fighting games for the N64? Is it a technical problem? This is a question that has puzzled me as well. People have said that the N64 will never have a game like Tekken 3. Why is this? The pre-rendered backgrounds? There aren't THAT many pre-renders, not at all like RE2. Fighter's Destiny had a similar approach; their backgrounds just weren't as detailed and beautiful. We've seen plenty of smoothly animated, well constructed polygon characters in various N64 games, so that's not a problem. We just need some creative artists to design some characters that are actually cool looking. Fighter's Destiny could have been so much more if their characters weren't so dorky looking. The only possible problem I can think of is, the large amounts of moves and combos for a great variety of characters. I guess this could take up a lot of space. You'll need the polygon models for 20+ characters, multiple costumes for each, as well as tons of fighting/combo animations that are exclusive to each character. Does all this really take up tons of storage space? If we can't get Tekken 3, then how about a game like this: Take a fully polygonal environment, such as the traditional style Japanese towns in Mystical Ninja, and combine it with a decent fighting engine. Imagine running around the Mystical Ninja towns, jumping off of pagoda roofs, over fences, through doors as you enter rooms, all the while pulling off traditional fighting moves that you'd find in the Tekken mold. Sound cool? Sounds kinda like Bushido Blade or the upcoming Destrega(PSX games), eh? The compression format that Factor 5 was talking about is about half an hour of voice (apparantly not sound, just voice... however that is done) at 8bit 11khz sound, or double that quality at half the amount of time. However, this is on a 96Mbit cart, and I have a feeling that the third parties will be using 128Mbit soon, and Nintendo and Rare will have a few 256Mbit carts out within the next year. A cart is not as limiting as the hub bub is making it out to be. I mean you can have a game with excellent textures such as Banjo-Kazooie, or the upcoming Wipeout 64 (So Next Generation says.), or you can have a lot of voice like in Starfox 64. Granted, FMV and a lot of textures and sounds and such are restricted from usage, but so what now? Games as good as BK, the size of BK, are possible and not any more expensive than Mario 64. That was $59.95 for me, BK was $44.95 at my Kay-Be. No one gets hurt in wrestling like they do in football or hockey, save those rare occassions, like when ManKind fell on the desk in the cage match. Saying wrestling is the the most dangerous sport is rediculous. It's fake, coreographed (sp), as in NOT REAL. Give me my basketball and football over wrestling any day. It's fun to watch, but no football or basketball. ~Matt <> [ To quit the n64 mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe n64" ] [ (without the quotes) to majordomo@xmission.com ] ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Jul 1998 10:01:19 +0100 From: pete@lucent.com Subject: Re: [N64] Drop the wrestling issue! - ->or entertainment or both continues, heads will roll. When you get them, they refill your item totals completely. There is also one that leads to a picture with 4 jiggys missing. once you fill it in, it gives you a honeycomb piece that doubles your life (honeycomb) total. All your life honeycombs turn red, and when you are hit, one turns yellow, then when you are hit agin, then it goes away. - -----Original Message----- From: R L To: n64@lists.xmission.com Date: Wednesday, July 15, 1998 7:30 PM Subject: [N64]Banjo question >After you clear the 810 note door there are other note doors in the room >with the couldron that sends you to fight the with.
