It is just a form of magnetic storage like a large floppy. There is no special Zip technology involved. the LS120, the SyQuest, and the upcoming 144MB and 200MB disks are also similar. The 64DD is exactly like this, using 64MB disks, to reduce price and to increase speed. The Zip is not that fast anymore. If Nintendo used a liscensed medium such as the Zip, they would have to pay for it, and manufacturers would be able to make games from disks not made by Nintendo. - -----Original Message----- From: John Carson To: 'n64@lists.xmission.com' Date: Tuesday, September 01, 1998 11:24 AM Subject: RE: [N64] Nintendo next system (ZIP Disks) > >I believe it is the same principal, but not a true zip disc. Mr. Lincoln hinted that Nintendo already made that conclusion in his recent interview with EGM. Now, what they plan to use asa medium for their next machine is unknown. A magnetic media that will only be compatible with NINTENDO's machine is the favourite right now since the 64DD appears to be Nintendo's prototype for its next machine. To make development easier, I really won't be surprised if Nintendo includes a ROM chip inside its next machine with all the fonts, (Japanese and english, instrument samples and other goodies ) That way, the translation process could be much easier and developers won't have to worry about wasting space for text. The space text take up might be trivial for CD or DVDs, but if Nintendo goes with a magnetic medium, which stores considerably less, the space saved from removing text in the game program could be substantial. I believe Konami had to take out several voice samples to fit in the western text to Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon. I have been finding mine main one getting a bit of a grinding or rubbing feeling to it, so I thought I'd take it apart and clean it. I cleaned all the parts with alcohol and put a very light grease on the pivot points of those little black half circle pieces. I put it back together and found it better but still feels a little bit like it's rubbing. My guess is that the parts of the black pieces that rest on the pivot points have worn down and the half circle pieces are actually beginning to rub on that white rounded piece on the bottom. First I wonder if you can order just those parts, secondly I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this and been able to correct it, and how Thanks in advance for any responses [ To quit the n64 mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe n64" ] [ (without the quotes) to majordomo@xmission.com ] ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Sep 1998 10:37:03 EDT From: Fords4Evr@aol.com Subject: Re: [N64] F-Zero X Where did our read that it was delayed?
