Fente, your friend is a 1st Generation moron. The 1st Generation NES came out in 1985 with two controllers, R.O.B, the two tone Grey Zapper, the Duck Hunt Game Pak and the Gyromite Game Pak, the Control Deck, the RF Adapter, the AV Cables, and the AC Adapter. Your pal is thinking of the second version of the NES Action Set which came out in 1989. It came with the Orange Zapper, the SMB/Duck Hunt single Game Pak, two controllers, the Control Deck, the AC & RF adapters, and the AV cables. The Action Set debuted in fall of 1988 but then it came with the grey Zapper. Let the RAM sit in the development powehouses like RARE for another year and you just might have a Donkey Kong Country 64 that will blow your socks off. Then there is all the neat little non-graphical tricks game developers can do employing the extra RAM. betteranimations, better sound, less pop-up, etc. etc. the list goes on. The 4-megabyte RAM goes into the memory expansion slot on your N64 (its the slot that comes before the cartridge slot) Romove the cover and you'll see a jumper pak in there. When you get new RAM, you remove the jumper pack and add the RAM. For now, DO NOT remove the Jumper Pak. Your N64 will not run without it!!! In case you haven't heard yet, Nintendo has officially announced they will release a 4 megabyte RAM expansion pak for $29.95 this November in North America. These are exciting times! Bear in mind that all the prices are rough estimates. Turok 2 $60 4 MB expansion $30 Zelda $60 F-Zero X $50 Rogue Squadron $60 Silicon Valley $50 That's at least $310 right there and that is only the must have titles that definately coming out this year (fingers crossed here). I know I am forgetting some titles in there too. Plus, on top of that, there are games for other systems that will require a purchase (Metal Gear, Crash 3...). Oh if only I had the patience to wait and buy more games used...looks like my December rent might be a little late ;-) [ To quit the n64 mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe n64" ] [ (without the quotes) to majordomo@xmission.com ] ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 09 Sep 1998 10:31:51 -0600 From: Matt Ma Subject: Re: [N64] News from UGO >>> Kevin Mapp 09/08/98 08:15pm >>> > > GT64 Championship Edition, a one or two player racing game for the > > Nintendo 64, has shipped, published under the Ocean brand. > >Maybe I'm getting games mixed up, but does this game have 3-4 or 16 You're probably mixing GT64 CE (3 tracks) with the upcoming GT World Tour (many tracks) by Boss Game Studios. This months EGM has a preview of it, including the first screen shots that I have seen anywhere. The games looks good, and it sounds very interesting, with some minor RPG elements to it. You play a driver that needs to find sponsership to race (which will affect the decals/paint scheme on your car), and presumably, you will need to win races for money (to upgrade your car?). Not exactly a Gran Turismo killer, but in the same vein. Unfortunately, we'll probably never see an N64 game with the amount of depth that Gran Turismo has. matt ma [ To quit the n64 mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe n64" ] [ (without the quotes) to majordomo@xmission.com ] ------------------------------ End of n64-digest V1 #485 ************************* [ To quit the n64-digest mailing list (big mistake), send the message ] [ "unsubscribe n64-digest" (without the quotes) to majordomo@xmission.com ]
