Just because weapons on cars is not realistic doesn't mean everything else doesn't have to be realistic. Think sci-fi books or movies. Obviously there are tons of unrealistic things, but it all works within the confines of a "realistic" environment. The characters still have to be realistic, the physics still have to seem realistic, the weapons and vehicles have to seem realistic, etc... I do see your point, however. Whith an arcade style game in the genre of auto combat, what aspects are important to make realistic? I haven't tried Vigilante 8, but Twisted Metal has some pretty weird controls and car physics. Not at all realistic. There doesn't appear to be realistic damage either. To me, I think that realistic car physics would improve the game marginally. What would improve the game a lot would be realistic damage, not just to the cars, but also to the environment. The "arena" or "track" should look like a total warzone after the vehicles are done trashing each other. It looks like the upcoming Battletanx might be doing this, with "realistic" environments that you can blow up. I hope so! matt ma [ To quit the n64 mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe n64" ] [ (without the quotes) to majordomo@xmission.com ] ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Sep 1998 19:31:03 -0500 From: "FearWN" Subject: Re: [N64] Vigilante 8 Have you ever played the role-playing game Car Wars? The entire thing is all based on numbers and the physics of things that occur within realistic environments. When a car flies up in the air due to a massive detonation of some type, it doesn't hit the ground and bounce to roll back onto its tires and keep going. The driver dies due just to the force of the impact, the engine STOPS (imagine that!), The side that the car lands on is ripped off, exposing and destroying everything on that side, and anything explosive within the car, erupts then sending it back into the air for another ride. This is the natural way of the auto duel. DOWN with the arcade style CRAP. - -FearWN - -----Original Message----- From: Eddy Wu To: n64@lists.xmission.com Date: Tuesday, September 29, 1998 5:27 PM Subject: Re: [N64] Vigilante 8 >What realism would that be?
