Nothing from Tron? Something you saw in a movie hardly gives way to originality. I haven't seen The Last Starfighter in a long time, a long long time. But I bet that Colony Wars Vengeance may be right up your alley. I'd like to see a racing/RPG for the N64. I know it's been done before, but I bet not too many people know what game I'm talking about. It'd be your basic RPG (Chrono Trigger style, no invisible enemies) but when you do encounter an enemy you have to race them. And it'd have to be using radio controlled cars. (Did I give it away yet?) Although it'd have to be a true 3-D game, not a top down psuedo 3-D view (overworld I mean) like the original. That game was sweet. I'm not sure if it counts as a sequel, but it would be pretty damn cool. It's an N64 update for the GB pokemon RPG game, but in this one they would have a fighting module instead of the turn-based battles. What this would mean is that when you meet another trainer or a wild pokemon, you could choose to initiate combat, at which time you would choose the pokemon you wanted to use to fight. Then it would switch over to a real-time fighter type game, where you would actaully be able to control your pokemon, and use it's special attacks. You could possible steal their weapons and stuff by some sort of transmitting of commmands. Hence the user might be a bit miffed about losing stuff and it may not be clear where they went if you had a high level character. Or you could summon other peoples characters and whip their asses. The training could be a bunch of random battles based on your current level. However have no limits! I.e. levels keep going up and up the spells could be endlessly generated. I guess I would like to see a shooter in which it is completely interactive. I'm not talking about something like Duke Nukem, where you can shoot palm trees and the start on fire, or hit canisters and the blow up. I would like to see a game for the N64 that breathes realism, while maintaining the fantasy of the game. For instance, if I'm walking through a cave, and down the ways I see about, oh...10 enemies coming my way, and I don't have time to kill them all, I would like to be able to fire a small missile above and ahead of them, and bring down the tunnel entrance. Although that way would be blocked off, there is another way around it, unless they find a way to dig through. Basically a COMPLETELY interactive environment where you have to be a little more careful with your shooting, because just firing off random shots may cause you to start all over again, because you accidentally destroyed a computer that you were supposed to access, or destroyed the only entrance into an enemy stronghold. - -Ian Dickson Blasted_1 of the Black Hand http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Portal/5158 [ To quit the n64 mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe n64" ] [ (without the quotes) to majordomo@xmission.com ] ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Nov 1998 10:30:32 -0600 From: FearWN Subject: Re: [N64] Ultimate Dream Game Ideas (Racing/RPG) > Anyway, I don't care that this is a sequel, but I still want to see a > Metroid 64. I *detest* games that do this. To allow you to proceed into the game for some depth & *then* tell you that you failed to do something important really early on, or that you wrecked something that has a bad effect late on - but one you *couldn't* have known about early on is crap. Simple as that. Cause & effect in a game is *great*, it's something that's a major factor in games. But cause & effect just for the sake of it in a pseudo-random factor *isn't* good. If you're gonna have it, do it *instantly* - show a landslide blocking the exit, show the computer fizzling & the security system locking into place. But don't just *do* it & expect the player to know. So many old adventures had this problem, I'd hoped we'd gotten past it. A game should never be 'ruined' in that the player can't complete this particular puzzle/level without restarting. Trespasser may have some nice ideas, unfortunately its reality is rather poor... Although it's nice that you're able to pick up or interact with pretty much anything, it does get sticky sometimes. Like picking up just a gun, for instance. I couldn't believe that as soon as I ran into some obstacle, like a boulder or a tree, my gun falls out of my hand. That gets tedious, especially if you have a pack of raptors on your tail. Hehehehehe...the one thing that I found really interesting about Trespasser was the fact that when you looked down towards your feet, you actually see something. On most other games, there are no feet (which sucks). But...hehehehe...to the rest of the list, I ain't tellin' what you see. All I can say is that your character is a woman...and she's well endowed. :-) - -Ian Dickson Blasted_1 of the Black Hand http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Portal/5158 [ To quit the n64 mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe n64" ] [ (without the quotes) to majordomo@xmission.com ] ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Nov 1998 09:56:43 PST From: "E. But when I got home from work last thursday and saw that the chicago tribune had done a half page review of the game and said it would lead a video game revolution. Hmmm...the last time they made that prediction it was about the game boy. I'm pretty sure the review is on their web-site. The next to last paragraph is spoiler type stuff, so I didn't read it. elliot >From: "Ian Dickson" >To: >Subject: Re: [N64] Zelda, Game of the Century >Date: Sun, 15 Nov 1998 22:04:19 -0600 >Reply-To: n64@lists.xmission.com > >Hehehehe...it's just like movies.
