All those quicktime movies on IGN64 are making me drool all over my keyboard! It's truly amazing how gorgeous the graphics are, and how awesome the music is! It really captures the feel of the movies, IMO. And the voices too, there's so much of it, and they have these cool accents too! If you haven't seen the quicktimes yet, go check it out! Extremely cool stuff! matt ma ps - I'm going to wait 'til all 3 come out before trying to decide which to get: Rogue Squadron, Turok 2, Bust-A-Move 3, or all of the above! Okay, now that we know what is and isn't gonna be in Turok 2, what is on your wish list for Perfect Dark? I'd like to see a co-op Story Mode, with maybe as much as 4 player co-op. What would be really cool would be if Rare made it so that if there were to be a co-op Story Mode, the a 1-player game would have, say, 4 objectives. Then, if a second player was playing, there could be, say, 7 objectives. And so on. Also, there could be like a part in the game where player 1 is sent to an operating room to open doors and turn off cameras for player 2, who has to get into a computer room to copy some files, while a 3rd character would have to escort a captive under the cover of the 4th player, all uniting at the end to meet a helicopter. That's a good co-op. Also, larger levels and a more specific allotment of guns in the multiplayer. So what's on your wish list for games like Perfect Dark and others? ~Matt [ To quit the n64 mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe n64" ] [ (without the quotes) to majordomo@xmission.com ] ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 08 Dec 1998 17:59:18 -0800 From: Dexter sy Subject: [N64] Rogue Squadron I know this sounds like a self promotion :-) but I think you guys will be interested in reading Nintendojo's interview with Factor 5 with regards to Rogue Squadron http://www.nintendojo.com/enter.hts Dexter S. Jefferson" Subject: [N64] Rogue Squadron - Initial Impressions I just picked up my copy, so here are some initial impressions. I'm biased because I'm a big star wars fan, so take these with a grain of salt. With the expansion pak, the graphics are just awesome. There is no other word to really describe them. Great light-sourcing when you shoot your blasters down a corridor where there is no light from the suns, or when an enemy ship blows up. The sky textures in high-res do a great job of selling the environment you're flying in. At this point, I'm just imagining what Zelda:TooT would have been like with the expansion pak. Good stuff. The sound is as well. I have an 'ok' stereo system (old speakers and tv) but it still sounds nice. Even the front end (selection screens and and menus) are awesome. Now, having played the first two levels, they are *very* simple and easy to play. More on gameplay later. Your performance is judged similiar to the same way Blast Corps did with the medals depending on what you've destroyed, shooting accuracy, and other criteria. If you fail the mission, you're given three lives or chances (I think) to complete it again. Now, you ask about gameplay ? I didn't read the instruction manual before playing the game, so I just threw in the game and started up. I was kind of disappointed by the speed of the game at first. I thought it was slow, but then the star wars fan in me said 'you're flying over a planet, so you wouldn't fly like you would in space.' Still, this didn't satisfy me. I also noticed the fogging that was in the middle of the screen. Yes, even with the expansion pack. It wasn't looking too good until I started playing. The fog on these first two levels, was just far enough ahead to keep me from focusing on it. The fog was atmospheric on the third level, so it wasn't a big deal to me. Besides, I was too busy chasing some enemies down beggar's cannon on the first level. :) There is a boost button which will speed up your craft and the z-button is your brake. They were pretty responsive. The r-button is a roll button, to roll your craft on the z-axis. The x-wing banks smoothly and rolls at a slow pace, so I'm guessing the other craft have more manuaverability. The enemies on the first two (didn't complete the third so I could write this e-mail) showed a complete lack of AI as I lost all three lives by crashing into things. I can only remember being hit by enemy fire once, and don't remember wingmen asking for or giving me help. But, after reading the news clippings on http://www.gameinformer.com ,I'm not too disappointed. The editors felt the same way, but Ken Lobb from NOA told them that the first few levels were 'throw away' levels, or 'learning' levels anyway. So, basically, if you're expecting a flight sim, you'll be disappointed. Don't buy the game without playing it. It's not Colony Wars or X-wing vs. Tie Fighter. So far, It's a beatiful looking, good sounding 3-D shooter with a Star Wars license imho. And, as a Star Wars fan, I'm going to enjoy this one. But, if you still don't believe me, the rent before you buy. I know some people won't like it. Any questions ? Now, my biggest dilema is do I put Rogue Squadron back in or Return to Karikiko Village to find that lady's chickens ? :) elliot eljam@hotmail.com >Date: Tue, 08 Dec 1998 17:34:33 -0600 >From: Matt Ma >To: n64@lists.xmission.com >Subject: [N64] Rogue Squadron >Reply-To: n64@lists.xmission.com > >I'd love to hear some comments/reviews about this game. But since they have no idea what I was talking about said that I should buy it, wrap it up and they'll reimburse me the money. So I did, but not before I tried the 1st two levels... Maybe it's just my old TV but I can't see any difference between normal and high res. While piloting the X-Wing I would hit the boost or brake and notice no difference in speed at all. I was hoping for a full adjustable speed control but I don't think it has it. The radar made no sense to me whatsoever and i ended up attacking other X-Wings during level 1. It's also hard to tell the difference between humans & Imperial Probe Droids at a distance. But maybe that will be not a problem when I figure out the radar. I must say that I didn't bother to waste my precious time reading the instructions since I had a test shortly after my game. If you liked the contol in the Hoth level in SotE then you'll like Rogue Squadron's control. There's an awful lot of fade in on level two but all these drawbacks I can forgive for a few reasons: The control is great, once you get used to it. (The X-Wing flies like the Outrider.) The music & sound effects; top notch, best sound in a N64 game ever. But most of all... I BLEW UP THE JAWA SANDCRAWLER!!!!! Anyway, the ending was disappointing, to put it kindly. It was better than most other games' endings (mmmmm, a cake for Mario), but it wasn't up to par with endings like Metal Gear Solid (it's unexpected!) or my personal favorite(s): Chrono Trigger's 11 endings! For those of you interested, I thought up a MUCH better (IMHO) ending last night, and I am in the process of typing it. It might be kinda long, but I'll probably post a URL to it when I'm done (or e-mail it to those that don't have Internet) I'm expecting about two typed pages, maybe more. You don't really need to go there. >How do you get to the base of the windmill so that >you can climb down that ladder to get the chicken? You don't. To get to those other chickens, you need to grab a chicken, go over onto the platform next to the door into the windmill, and then jump with the chicken to the platform you see over the fence on your left. Then throw the chicken back over, and you will have access to two other chickens in this fenced area, one on the ground, and one up the ladder at the base of the windmill. >In lake Hylia, I can see the bottle under water, but >when I dive, the action button never turns to grab. >My dive meter starts at 3, should it be higher to get >the bottle. I'm pretty sure that as soon as you touch it, you will get it. >When the &*%$ is the bombchu shop occupied? Everytime >I go there its either locked or open and no ones there. You don't need to go to the bombchu shop. >The biggest fish that I caught was 18lbs and all I got >was a purple rupee. Are rupees the only thing that you >can get for cathcing a big fish? ?? That's weird. If you catch a fish over ten pounds as a child, you get a heart container. Maybe you used the illegal sinking lure? >I have yet to win in the shooting game game in Hyrule >village, is there anything that you win thats necessary >to continue playing and go further?
