That looks like a great Sony game for this Christmas. But really now. Sony themselves don't make a whole lot of games. The PlayStation is more of a second and third party system. That's the way it is with the PlayStation and I feel there's nothing wrong with that. But I've come to expect Nintendo (and Sega for that matter) to internally develop games for their systems. I guess it is understandable with the N64, since it wasn't what they hoped it would be. I was merely pointing out the fact that we should see RARE more than just a Nintendo ally. The relationship between the two is much deeper and RARE is in competition with Nintendo's internal teams to see who can create the best games while at the same time, supporting Nintendo's software line-up in the same way EAD does. By making extremely marketable games, or in the case of Donkey Kong 64, taking a Nintendo franchise and expanding on it. As for EAD not producing its fair share, their last game was Zelda, which was released last year and there might be surprises at SpaceWorld, but it looks as if the only other game they are working on is Zelda Gaiden. Where are all the development resources going? Dolphin :-) It started out as an unlikely fact that the machine will make it out by fall 2000, as a lot of pundits said at E3. But lately, a lot of people are taking a more neutral stance saying that Nintendo might be able to do it. And the only reason for that is most likely the fact that the next mario is already deep in development and it looks likey it can be completed in time. (PD release) I personally think that PD will definitely be delayed, at least a couple of weeks, if not more. First of all, DK is coming November 24, if I remember correctly. If PD makes the 12/6 release, that's two huge titles within the space of two weeks, something which I don't think has happened in the history of the N64. Also, according to Nintendojo, at Camp Hyrule Ken Lobb commented that the GB64 pak will be available by the time PD is out. To me, this means one of two things: Either PD is being pushed back past Pokemon Stadium, or Stadium is being moved the December and PD is being pushed back to after that. Now, neither option would make me happy, but I think Nintendo wouldn't release the GB pak as a stand-alone, and then pack it in with PokeSta 3 months later. It just doesn't make any sense, since PokeSta will probably be a huge seller as well. The best case scenario would be to pack in the GB pak with PD, but that probably isn't going to happen. - -----Original Message----- From: Dexter Sy To: n64@lists.xmission.com Date: Sunday, August 22, 1999 6:43 PM Subject: Re: [N64] alive?. >PD is December 6 >DK is November 20 something (I think) >JGF is October 11 > > >Yeah, PD has been coming forever. So far I'm aware of the first one.. "It is alive" or something, and there's also one with an Asian woman running around after she stole a DC. Hmm.. why the hell isn't there any gameplay footage in these ads? If I were Sega I'd want to show off the creamy goodness that is DC graphics. Although I have to admit, maybe they're working up to actual game screens. In the first ad, if I didn't recognize the swirl logo and the slogan, I wouldn't even know it was an ad for the Dreamcast. Hell, I'm not even sure if the word Sega appeared anywhere in it. At least the second one had Sonic. I guess most people who are going to get a DC have already heard about it and preordered it, but if that's true, what's the point of having advertisements on TV? They aren't cheap.. the reason they show them is to attract new buyers. It's hard to attract buyers when the name of the thing you are advertising doesn't even appear in the ad. So what do you guys think of it? The graphics? Plot? The real-time system? If you ask me, I'd buy it even if it had to do with mutant cows from jupiter ;-) Oh, and I remember Trey raised a point about the plot not making sense with the Zelda 64 plot. Well, the TOoT ending didn't make a whole lot of sense, so one day when I was bored I came up with a pretty convoluted explanation, whichj I will now befuddle you with =). At the very end of Zelda 64, Link gets sent back to his youth by Zelda. But, it appears that he just goed back to see young Zelda at the castle, only to repeat the game events over and over for eternity. That's what I had a problem with at first. But, after thinking about it for a while, that's probably not what happens. First of all, Link appears in the Temple of Time, something that wasn't even open until after you had met Zelda the first time. So, we can assume that the time to which Link was sent was after you had collected all three stones, not to the first time you met Zelda. I also assumed that the young Link at the end of the game had knowledge of going into the future, because there's no reason to think he didn't. So, the scene at the end where he goes to see Zelda peeking in the window is NOT the same scene as when he went to see her the first time, but a totally unrelated time (apparently Zelda has some voyeuristic tendencies). Zelda probably doesn't know what went on in the future, because she didn't travel through time. As for Ganon(dorf), I have two theories. One, defeating Ganondorf in the future and sending him into the void also removed him from the past. Two, the only reason that Ganondorf took power in the first place was because the hero, Link, was asleep in the Temple of Time. Since this time that may not happen, Ganondorf never becomes a threat, so the future becomes different, setting the stage for future Zelda games. I realize that this is a stretch, and probably only makes sense to someone on crack, but hey, what are you gonna do? Plot was never one of Zelda's strong points. On a unrelated topic, who else is pissed that there's going to be a 64-bit Zelda game that we're not going to be able to play? They confirmed a Zelda for the 64DD, which is not coming out in the US. I think they should just forget about it and start on the Dolphin Zelda. Probably to an arcade or a bar. Or one of those combo units. ;) I've been playing a lot of Tekken 3 (PSX) this weekend. It was surprisingly good. Also picked up Project Overkill (PSX) for $5.99 and I've been playing a bit of that as well. But I'm sure nobody's really interested in that. I also got a chance to play Mario Golf. Although it plays a lot like Hot Shots Golf I found myself liking Mario Golf a lot more. I may just sell Tiger Woods '99 to to get Mario Golf if I see it used anywhere.
