Anyway, a few comments on some of the limited stuff I read: 1) There was a small debate about jungle earlier and I don't think you can compare jungle to the Orb at all. It's a passing public fetish, much like early house techno. 2) I taped copies of the Aubrey Mixes and FFWD from my friend: a) The Aubrey Mixes is good but not the best thing that the Orb has done. b) FFWD is truly amazing. I'd much rather find this on CD than Aubrey. 3) Some people posted rather negatively about Orblivion. I wasn't on the list when the album was first released so I probably missed the whole debate, but I think Orblivion is one of the top Orb albums. The level, deepness, and complexity of sound is unmatched by anyone. 4) My friend has a single from a group called Sub-surfing. He thinks that it's the Orb in disguise because the sound is so similar. I didn't get a chance to hear it, so does anybody know about this? How to get it? 5) The last thing, does anybody have or know how to get a copy of the Orb's remix of Yello Magic Orchestra? It's a Japanese import and I really, really want it. If you mean Technodon Remixes, they're available as a very expensive import at http://www.cdnow.com BTW: My Canadian version of hi~tech/no crime has 2 mixes of Tong Poo. Which versions only have one mix? I know I've heard about that somewhere. ******************************************************* * Take a break from the 90s visit our 80s Music Stop * * http://www.ug.cs.dal.ca/~swim/80stop.html * ******************************************************* # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info orb" in the message. # Postings must go to orb@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. # Latest Orb info: http://www.theorb.com/orbulletins.html -- look here first! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Jan 1998 09:51:00 -0700 From: rachel@ironlight.com (rachel) Subject: (orb) www.cdeurope.com hey collectors! if you're willing to pay the price, cdeurope is selling all sorts of bootlegs: both Anthologies and Morphology.... I'd much rather find this on CD than Aubrey. its definately mindbogglingly good.. it's a shame that project didn't start up again.. try going to sleep with it, you're out like a light in a matter of seconds =) > 3) Some people posted rather negatively about Orblivion. The level, > deepness, and complexity of sound is unmatched by anyone. agreed-- it seems that people miss the point entirely. some people got into the orb with ultraworld, and they like that stripped down simple sound and are disappointed with everything after it (i dunno why reviews were talking about how orblivion harkened back to the ultraworld days, if anything it's even more of a progression away from it as terrarvm was).. or some people liked it because of S.A.L.T only for it's novelty value or it's, dare i say it, drum&bass tinged beats.. the worst song on the record, IMO. now, the first 5 tracks... that's some headtrip! > 5) The last thing, does anybody have or know how to get a copy of the > Orb's remix of Yello Magic Orchestra? It's a Japanese import and I > really, really want it. Which track are you talking about? or is it an entire album remixed or what? (i.e. YMO is a group not a song)-- if you're talking about the 'Tong Poo' mixes you can get them on a domestic release called 'Yellow Magic Orchestra reconstructed (hi tech/no crime)' or something like that.. it's on Moonshine of all labels =) it's got both of the mixes (mix I and mix II), each are upwards of 8 or 9 minutes and they're really gorgeous.. haunting vocal sample from the original, dubby basses with lots of nice guitar-styled effects on them, and detached drumloops.. works well. - -dan g # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info orb" in the message. # Postings must go to orb@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. # Latest Orb info: http://www.theorb.com/orbulletins.html -- look here first! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Jan 1998 10:02:40 -0600 From: Don Gagen Subject: RE: (orb) weird stuff -----Original Message----- From: Reverend bluE [SMTP:djblue@asu.edu] Sent: Thursday, January 15, 1998 9:34 PM To: The Wonderful world of orb Subject: (orb) weird stuff stuff that seems batty, or I just haven't been aware of: this was weird to me: H148969 Tripping On Sunshine Orb Vinyl Album $24.95 H419668 Peel Session Orb Vinyl Album $12.00 According to the discography "Tripping on Sunshine" is a really crappy live album bootleg.
