I have decided to do a simple name out of a hat, and when I pick one, I'll want the money quickly, as I have used my telephone bill money to pay for the CD as I am completely and utterly skint (broke/stoney bridge/poor/etc). I took a look at the CD, I think it must have been bought before and returned, because the cover is open on it, but the CDs are immaculate, with a bit of dirt but no scratches and book looks like it hasn't been touched at all. I almost decided to keep the CD, then I remembered the telephone bill so.... Anyway, if anyone wants it, just send me e-mail and I'll make a decision on monday evening and tell you all on Tuesday. I asked the guy in the shop also to see if he could get any more copies and he says he'll try and get me some more for next week if he can - so I'll keep you all informed. Adios! P.S. FSOL kick ass - even though the guys behind the music are a little on the dodgy side! P.P.S. Why is it that you are always broke at the wrong time, and when you do have money the only things around to spend it on are crap! Eg. Autechre are playing here next week, then Andy Weatherall the week after and finally Dave Clarke the week after that. Last week, Stuart McMillan, the night before that Justin Robertson, the list goes on for miles, with Mr. C, Carl Cox, etc.... and yet they decided to play at a time of year when no-one has any cash, especially a student who works in a bar at the weekends and has to take off every weekend to go to great gigs, but can't afford to take off weekends, etc, etc... thank god I know people who can give me long term loans! :) Happy is the man with good credit! What do you do when your inbox suddenly overflows with offers? giving it to the person who first responds isn't fair to those who don't have permanent internet connections. I think that an auction is really the only way to go in such situations. remember that in an auction, it is the bidders that are setting that ridiculous price for the piece, not the seller. if someone wants to pay $50 for orbscure trax, then that's their business (i didn't think it was worth the $17 that i paid, but.....) the albums are out-of-print and that sucks, but it's the only way. the one thing that sellers will sometimes do that irks me is set a minimum bid. that's musical extortion... but when the bidders set the price, who are we to tell them that's too much? it's all about what the piece is worth to the individual... i've been lurking for too long ;-) -gabe. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info orb" in the message. # Postings must go to orb@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. # Latest Orb info: http://www.theorb.com/orbulletins.html -- look here first! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 07 Feb 1998 19:17:34 -0500 From: gliddenm@joker.lsc.vsc.edu Subject: Re: (orb) auctions and my personal opinion thereof On Sat, 07 Feb 1998 16:26:25 -0600 lyserg19@idt.net (lysergic maximus) wrote: > >hi everyone... > >as a music collector who collects music merely for the love of the music i >feel it necessary to make comment... lately there have been a rash of orb >related cds being auctioned of and while i understand that everyone can't >get the discs, people should be so money hungry... i mean come on, $50 for >orbscure tracks? a promo that was free? i paid $15 for mine and thought >it was cheesy that someone actually charged... i think perhaps people >should examine their motives behind these auctions... i'd like to know how many people actually got their orbscure trax for free, but that's beside the point. i don't care much for auctions either...i think it's kinda ridiculous to pay like $80 to get the aubrey mixes (yes i've heard them..maybe $70 ;) it is hard to find another way to get rid of something extra you find though. i'd like people to set a basic, fair price (what they paid for it, and maybe a couple extra bucks) then have people write in, and give it to someone at random...that way it doesn't automatically go to the nut who's willing to spend a few hundred dollars to get some orb cd's.. and now for a slight bum-kiss, if there were more people doing what smiley's doing (diggin' up orb rarities without making a profit) the world would be a better place... sergio. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info orb" in the message. # Postings must go to orb@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. # Latest Orb info: http://www.theorb.com/orbulletins.html -- look here first! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 07 Feb 1998 20:49:53 -0800 From: Blaine Cook Subject: (orb) Orb concerts in europe?
