I don't know any better ways of converting .RA to .WAV, but you get downolad "some" .RA files (or .RM files as they are called now) like this: Right click on the link to the file you want to play. Do "Save Link As". If the link is to an .RAM file, you're in luck. Save this .RAM file somewhere (Desktop is good). Open this .RAM file in Notepad/Wordpad etc... You'll see that it's just a link yo an .RA file. EXAMPLE:At http://www.orblivion.co.uk/contents.html, there's a link to http://www.orblivion.co.uk/sounds/orbradio.ram "orbradio.ram" is just a text file that points to: pnm://hugh.goodtech.co.uk/www.orblivion.co.uk/docroot/sounds/orbradio.ra At least now you know where the .ra file is located. NOW: The job is to find exactly how to get there, and download the file. I've done it before, but I can't do it on this particular file. I know someone posted the exact URL on this list recently. This doesn't work for stuff like CDNOW, though. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info orb" in the message. # Postings must go to orb@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. # Latest Orb info: http://www.theorb.com/orbulletins.html -- look here first! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Feb 1998 07:16:44 -0600 From: lysergic maximus Subject: (orb) lost mail ahem... i hate messages like these and am sorry i have to send it... if anyone has sent anything to me in the past day, please resend it... i lost uncounted hours of traffic due to a problem with my ISPs mail server.... IMHO, it is the best non-orb "ambient" cd ever produced and certainly the best thing richard james gave us. i've practically worn the pits down on the cd over the years. ;) to answer your question whether or not it is _rare_, i was just in tower records today and saw a whole stack of them. yes boyz & girlz, richard james has made it to the mainstream market, even in the states. if i'm not mistaken, the first release was on r&s records but later pressings have been released on sire records. there is an aphex twin mailing list, otherwise known as intelligent dance musik (IDM). i haven't been on the list in ages, but i think they are on the hyperreal server. if you wish to subscribe: mailto:majordomo@hyperreal.org type "subscribe idm" in the body of the message and this should do the trick. again, it's been awhile since i've been subscribed, so the protocol might have changed since then. if you need further info, check the hyperreal pages @ http://www.hyperreal.org. - -- n8 # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info orb" in the message. # Postings must go to orb@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. # Latest Orb info: http://www.theorb.com/orbulletins.html -- look here first! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Feb 1998 11:03:59 -0500 From: cdrich@juno.com (Rich J Bide) Subject: (orb) Re: Selected Ambient Works (It really does)!!! Double Click on it: - go to Optoins / Properties / Recording. - be sure there's a ckeck under CD Audio. The tricky part is if that volume is set too high, your recorded audio will be distorted beyond all belief. You're just going to have to mess with it. (I have my CD Audio set to the second notch.) Now open Cool Edit. Press the "Record" button on the bottom. Set the next few options to "44100, Stereo, and 16-bit". After it starts recording, quickly open your CD Player and start playing! It should record it! (Do a test run first. Just record a few seconds and make sure your audio is not too loud.) laters, +---------------------------------------------------+ + Jason Wallace wallajl@okstate.edu + + http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/9703/ + # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info orb" in the message. # Postings must go to orb@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. # Latest Orb info: http://www.theorb.com/orbulletins.html -- look here first! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Feb 1998 15:18:57 -0800 From: Blaine Cook Subject: Re: (orb) non-orb ...need info cd-wav At 12:04 98.02.16 EST, you wrote: > >anyone have any ingenious ways to turn tracks from a regular audio cd into wav >files? > depending on what type of drive you have, you can do a direct (to RAW (or wav?) dump, i'm not exactly sure, but once you've got the RAW you can always open it up with an audio editor and convert to wav...
