It may be chaotic, but it may not. Or, mix in an orb cd or two >and see what you get. Hell, I'd have a blast if I only had access to 4 >cd players, rather than my lame Sony boombox. Actually this is kinda funny.. Our Original set up to listen was this. CD player in the front L/R running through the main stereo. The Playstetion running though the TV In the Center. Another CD player hooked to a TV to the Rear left, and a Boom Box on the Rear right.. Nothing Glamorous. It's just wierd seeing two TV's in the Same living room. (we eventually left this partially set up, to ease future listening). But on the first try. The main CD, player was on shuffle, one of those carosel deals. And The first song we listened to it.. It was pretty cool.. there was this strange electronic thing going on.. And then half way throught the song we realized that the CD in the stereo that was playing wasn't the Flaming Lips, It actually was Doubting Thomas. I've been toying with the notion of trying different tracks and Different CD's.. I've already played around with Different CD locations (rotating the Discs from player to player). But I like it when they all get sligtly out of Synch, and it's all a big chaos.. So maybe diferent tracks might be really fun. Maybe throw in some Spanish Castles in the Sky.. or some Blue Room. That should make it really interesting. Hell... who says we have to stick with 4CD's.. Find more to add to it.. Throw a party and have the Invite say (BYOS... Bring your own stereo) ... That would be a blast. Just some more thoughts... I've got a pretty low budget studio, but Sean did a good job of making my track sound good on disc. Anyone in the Philly area can purchase the disc for $10 at REPO Records, West Lancaster Ave. Bryn Mawr - A great music store no matter what your taste. About the Volkswagen commercials, If it were any other car company I'd hate it, but VW has a history of good advertising, and LFC on TV isn't quite as shocking as VW using the Psychic TV song "Roman P." a few years back, you may remember the "R U Free R U really Free..." commercial. That's Left / Right / Center (L+R) / Surround (L-R). The new AC-3 format has separate surround channels for left and right, and a separate subwoofer channel to make 6 audio channels. AC-3 is only available on laserdiscs and DVD's, as far as I know. There are other surround sound formats too... http://personal.riverusers.com/~manderso/ used to have a discography of albums in a bunch of different surround formats but the pages seem to have disappeared except for "circle surround" and "binaural headphone surround". There's also something about Ambisonic Surround at the page below. I've never fooled around with any of these formats. Does anyone know more about 'em and why they were made? http://www.omg.unb.ca/~mleese/ambison.html Finally, for the ultimate in surround sound check out the Audium if you're ever in San Francisco. This auditorium has speakers in the floor, ceiling, walls, etc and plays a few times each weekend (in the dark!). I thought the music was just OK (not up to the level of the Orb =) but it was a very unique experience. The Audium homepage is: http://www.slip.net/~audium/ The only official "Dolby Surround" disc I have is "West Sound Circle" and has tracks from Sun Electric (<- See, I'm on topic!), Holy Language, Spin Corp and Async Sense. It's a nice CD! It was apparently recorded at a club of the same name in Berlin that has a surround setup. If anyone can read German, THEIR homepage is: http://www.west.de I'd like to know more about this place too! I rarely use my surround setup since I'd be tripping over the wires constantly, I'll get around to making a permanent sound setup once I get my own place. No actually, i was watching the Orb on the MTV Europe back last year, about two hours of them warbling on with this stupid Simone woman who was going on about blow jobs. They showed a few of their videos, this was about the time Toxygene was out, they were talking about the Pomme Fritz and Orbus Terrarum days nearer the end of the show, they played a part of the Pomme Fritz video (it's supposed to be about 30 minutes isn't it?) and then they chatted about Orbus, saying how annoying it was for it not to be as well recieved as UF Orb and stuff. Andy Hughes was saying how they had to edit Slug Dub out of about FOUR hours of mixes. I've actually got it all on video, i wasn't gonna miss that for the world. The Oxbow Lakes vid was pretty good, it reminded me of the scenes from the Newbury By-Pass. They also played Outlands (from Patterns and Textures) and made their own choise of video, Andy's was of a really weird 80's one and LX's was a KLF one, i forget though, all it was was a car going down a road through the hole thing, the sheep were cool. Are you not familiar with the book of Revelations of St. John, the final book of the bible prophesying the Apocalypse? They forced everyone to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead so that no one shall be able to buy or sell unless he has the mark which is the name of the beast or the number of his name and the number of the beast is six six six. What can such specific prophecy mean? What is the mark? But the mark is the bar code, the ubiquitous bar code that you'll find on every bundle and every packet of Johnny's methapoxy pot pie and every bar code is divided into two parts by three markers and those three markers are always represented by the number six six six six. And what does it say? No one shall be able to buy or sell without that mark. And now what they're planning to do in order to eradicate all credit card fraud and in order to precipitate a totally cashlees society - what they're planning to do what they've already tested on the American troops - they're gonna subcutaneously laser tattoo a mark onto your right hand or onto your forehead and they're gonna replace plastic with FLESH. FACT. In the same book of Revelations when the seventh seal's been broken open on the day of judgement and the seven angels blow their trumpets and the third angel blows her bugle, wormwood will fall from the sky, wormwood will poison a third part of all the waters and a third part of all the land and many many many people will die. Now do you know what the Russian translation for wormwood is? Chernobyl. FACT. And August the 18th, 1999 the planets of our solar system are gonna line up into the shape of the cross. They're gonna line up into fixed signs of Aquarius, Leo, Taurus and Scorpio. It's just happened. This one's the fourth beast of the apocalypse as mentioned in the book of Daniel. And you've all FACT. Do you think that the amoeba ever dreamed that it would evolve into the frog? And when that first frog shimmied out of the water and employed its vocal chords in order to attract a mate or to deter a predator, do you think that frog ever imagined that, that insipid frog would evolve into all the languages of the world, into all the literature of the world? And just as that froggy could've never possibly have conceived of Shakespeare so we can never possibly imagine our destiny. If you take the whole of time represented by one year, but only in the first few moments of the first of January, there's a long way to go. Only now we're not gonna sprout extra limbs and wings and things because evolution itself is evolving. When it comes the Apocalypse itself will be part of the process of that leap of evolution. By the very definition of apocalypse mankind will cease to exist, at least in a material form. Will it evolve into something that transcends matter, into a species of pure thought? I think "phat" is an ebonic spelling of "fat", which is an adjective that : 1) describes the physical size of something: "I got phat pockets yo!" == I have big pockets == I have lots of money OR 2) is a positive qualitative assessment: "doze be phat wheelz!" == that's a great car! At least that's how it's been used in my neck of the woods. Speaking of the '80's, did you see "The Wedding Singer"? I didn't care much for the sound track either. I ended up returning it and getting the new Madonna CD. For those of you who can deal with a bit of commercialized electronica, it's a pretty good album. The tracks really needed to be longer though -- but then they wouldn't be radio friendly... Ambient noise between the tracks would have made it better too. I guess thats just my bias after listening to the production excellence of The Orb. =) - -Steve - -- ______________________________________________________________________________ Steve Shah (sshah@cs.ucr.edu) | SysAdmin/Coder/Gabbernaut/DJ/Writer/Minister http://www.cs.ucr.edu/~sshah | We're not dropping out, we're infiltrating. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Life is best measured in beats per minute. I figured that since we're really getting off the subject, and talking about the Wedding Singer.... Someone mentioned the Blue Monday scene. Speaking of Blue Monday (and hence, New Order), I have been looking for the SINGLE of New Order's "Touched By the Hand of God"--the one with the 7 1/2 minute (original) version. It does NOT appear on any albums of theres (before y'all start telling me it's on the Best of New Order albums--it's not, they're just edits). Theirs, sorry. Anyway, someone on the list a while back mentioned he had it, but I don't know whatever became of that.... Any help out there? Thanks! Because it made me think of all those quirky 80's John hughes movies..... I give it a bonus for trying so hard.. But the best movie adam did i think is Happy Gilmore.. Anyways to keep things Orbient... Has anyone noticed if there is a difference between the Front 242 Remix track on Mixage & Mutage and the ones on the Religion single...
