Most record stores over here have a copy every now and then. As to it being "outstanding"...I'd have to disagree. The entire thing sounds like it was recorded in mono, and it tends to get very repetetive after a while. I wouldn't recommend spending a large amount of money on it...unless you MUST have everything with Alex's name on it. But it's not too bad for Alex's first attempt at a mix album... james # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Oct 1998 13:26:40 -0700 From: Jeremy J Taylor Subject: (orb) Towers of Dub (ambient mix)from Anthology vs Original Mix from U.F.Off I am curious, after a bit of comparitive analysis. But it would appear that the Towers of Dub (ambient mix) as on Anthology, is in fact the same as the Towers Of Dub (Original Mix) as on U.F.Off. Other than the fact that the U.F.Off version begin as mixed together from end of Mickey Mars and is seems short a couple seconds of the opening sample (the doctors) and the fact that the U.f.Off version is 10:23, whereas Anthology version is 10:17, it seems to the the same mix. Any thoughts on this? The implications of this are not too tremendous. However if they are the same, then it would seem a little inappropriate to have the Ambient Mix from Anthology available for download when there is the same available on a current release. Anyone with input on this, please contribute to this. First time I heard it, I was positive it was from Sacred Spirit. I'm new to The Orb after having bought the U.F.Off double CD last week. It's almost as if it's been superglued into the CD deck, so I thought I'd better get something else :) Bought the video of U.F.Off today with the long version of Blue Room 39:58 on CD. Also got Live 93 and the CD single of Toxygene. Haven't had a chance to listen to it all yet. These mixes are haer for you to listen to. If you come acrossed a disc/lp/etc.. that has stuff that the OAA holdes, BUY IT! We have an honer system going on with the OAA.. we want to keep it that way. Nice and easy. So please, if you see a copy of Anthology 1 sitting at a local shop, dont go home and download the mp3s, make a cdr, and never buy the copy in the store. It gives the OAA a bad name, and cheats LX, Andy, Thomas, etc.. out of their hard earned money. Granted. Of course, I don't think anybody's going to not buy the CD just because they were able to obtain two tracks that appear in edited form on it... Then again, as I said, this will be a pointless argument in a few months. Also note that I don't run the site, so I have no control over what's on it. :) > is this the version with no fun on it? i've seen it in Virgin records here > in SF, amoungst other places, so once again, i'd be happy to keep my eyes > open for anyone in need of this - send me an email and i'll see what i can > find over the next couple weeks. Holy shit! I'm starting to think that either the west coast stores are just way better, or nobody on the west coast listens to good music, so it all sits in the stores forever unloved and unwanted. :) I tried over 25 used stores and 4 big new ones (HMV, Tower, Newbury Comics, etc) in Boston and over 30 independent stores as well as BOTH virgin megastores in NYC and never once saw that damn record. I don't get it... > don't get me wrong, i'm fully supportive of sharing the rare trax, cause > even a cd-r isn't the same as the original. (although maybe i'm the only > one out there who's unsatisfied with a cd if it isn't accompanied by yummy > artwork!) and i think its REALLY generous of everyone, especially the folks No way! I always feel the same way! I'd way rather have an orig than some shitty CD-R with handwritten tracklisting, no liner notes, no artwork, etc... Plus there's the fact that somehow some CD's that you can get have over 74 minutes of music and hence are not exactly prime candidates for CD-R copy. Any else wonder how the fuck they do that?! I have a garage comp. that has 87 mins of music!!! And my cd player will still play it. > donating the bandwidth and server, etc., but i just hate thinking that the > people who like the orb the most are the ones who are also ripping them > off... I also think that "ripping off" is subjective. As I said, I'd be surprised if people would change their mind about buying the album if two tracks out of 24 or whatever are avail in MP3... I dunno, could just be me. I've had all the tracks except for Mickey Mars (I think) on U.F.Off for a while but that didn't stop me from pre-ordering a copy. I think it's cool that now alot of Orb fans get to hear this mix. I have the 'Orb in Dub' EP, but it's cool now everyone will hear it. Plus all the 'Orb in Dub' EPs are worped... : ( Just to let you know they are one and the same :) Skidoo 'out' # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Oct 1998 23:39:30 -0400 (EDT) From: "Benjamin L. I've come across another copy of the Aubrey Mixes on CD. If anybody is interested please let me know. I would prefer to do a trade rather than sell this thing. Some things I would like are the Toxygene Box set, the recent LFC CDR promo (wishful thinking probably), and maybe the German Blue Room single. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Oct 1998 02:57:04 -0400 (EDT) From: Anthony Bryan Subject: Re: (orb) Sun Electric - live > I finally picked up a Sun Electric album: Present. Interesting, more "admirable" than compelling, just doesn't grab me. I can even hear the influence of Fehlmann related to his Orb contributions. But I have a nagging feeling that it's another album that was highly praised and Ambient. Which is it that I should really pick up? its '30.7.94' by sun electric, the live album. if you don't have this then you're missing out. a complete ambient classic. its on R&S/Apollo & you should be able to get ahold of it. it also has some of the best artwork for an album ever, light yellow/orange cover w/ concentric circles. ant # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Oct 1998 08:29:04 +0100 From: Lee Subject: Re: (orb) Moron Spotted...or rather read... ha ha ha ha ha, my hostility was little more than a joke, and anyway, on that particular day I was feeling rather shitty and decided to stikr things up, I don't know what got into me but I apologise to anyone I have offended. But I hate the Verve, sorry but I do, I have heard Richard Ashcroft's thing on the UNKLE album but unfortunately it was the low point of the album for me, RA is a self-indulgent and close minded cunt who slags off the rolling stones and has no respect for the people who made either him or the people who originally influenced the verve. This is an ORB list, please keep it that way! I actually had a really wierd dream about the orb. I was a dream that I had before but on the first time of having it, I didn't get as far in in for some reason, the story line was that I was at an orb gig and suddenly just before they start I feel sick and decided to go home. I then wake up. On the second time of having the dream, after feeling sick, I then actually stood in the car park, which just happened to be below a mountain top that I was standing on. I waited for a while and then when my lift home arrived I decided to go back and watch the peformance. When I got back the gig zoomed by in seconds yet I was some how able to pick out some rather excellent versions of outlands and LFC. Hmmm, how I love dream-control. . .anyway, they then had a little break and came down to meet me and this other friend of mine, I can't remember who it was, but I have no idea what Thomas Fehlman (can't spell) looks like so he ended up turning out to be that long haird hippy guy from the X-Files, hmmm, it was really wierd, he told me that he was going to a pub later, a pub that I know quite well, in southampton. Bloody hell it was crazy but I was glad that I let the dream run it's full potential. . . This just happened to be a second gig based dream that I have had, the first one was at a chalatan's gig and it was bloody sweltering! Anyone have any comments? What does Thomas look like?
