I saw them play at the local Club before their album came out. the songs they played were get busy child, there is hope, comin' back and all the popular faveorites. the show was eh, okay. a year later i buy their cd for 11 bucks on clearance at camelot... listen to the album found it 'not bad' but not 'good' either. and it was the same damn songs that all sounded the same. the sound palette was very limited to put it nicely. well, i caught part of their show at Zen festival '98 -on labour day. They were playing the same songs. Not to mention that they had Two seperate commercials, Gap with busy child, and a Mazda (i think) Car commercial with Track 4 *High Roller* i guess what i'm trying to say is they lack depth. Mtv can hype any artist they choose but they'll never get it right. Although there is one commercial they have that is a phat remix of an old house classic (it's got that sample "...... in the neighborhood, up to no good" you get the drift. Let's talk about this for a sec, eh? first of all, i generally agree with your estimation of crystal method, but i'd like to ramble about mtv (and i promise an orb tie-in). everyone knows mtv attempted to take advantage of the burgeoning "scene" in the us through cm and prodigy. well, i think they've learned the hard way it ain't gonna work (thankfully, imho). why? drugs. now, i know a lot of people want to de-emphasize the use of drugs at shows (i hate the word "rave"). i understand why ... i've gone out on nuthin' more than a couple o' lungers and had a great time. u don't have to ... but let's face it, lots of us do. i suppose some straight-edgers use the orb as kind of a drug placebo, and that's fine. but ripped to the tits is my own personal preference, as i'm sure for a lot of you as well. and how the hell can you market that? well, mtv found out that you can't. so they turned to this swing crap, 'cos it's all about booze. and that's easy to market ... they'd rather market martinis to high schoolers than marijuana for responsible adults. hmmmm ... (no offense to you pint-lifting big beat punters ... this hand has known many a watney's cream stout). whew! anybody still awake at this point, feel free to ridicule this conspiracy of oliver stone proportions. by the by, i'm desperately seeking Patterns and Textures. i'm probably not the only one, i know. %) p.s. i think i like the edit of mickey mars more than the one on the 2nd disc ... am i insane? beaty version of pomme fritz rocks! _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
