Check www.tapetrader.com or one of the other tape trading sites. If you don't have any Orb to trade work something else out etc etc. If all live stuff would be on the OAA, no one would trade anymore, and I/you don't get any new stuff. Sorry if you've already emailed me the names of the files. Whoever was looking for "Towers of Dub" (Live Dog On The Mix), it's in the "live" folder -- although I'm not sure if it's "live." Added Pink Floyd "Wish You Were Here" Trance Remixes. It was by far the most popular download all weekend. I've had someone offer the "Chillout Megamix" to me in CDR format, so as soon as I contact them and hopefully make a trade, it will get added. If anyone has the Pink Floyd "Meddle" Trance Remixes, I would love to get that uploaded, too. I registered my copy of Serv-U since it seems to be doing a fine job running the site. There have been 11,000 logins to the OAA since I started hosting it. And YES, if anyone sends me stuff on CDR, and it's out of print, bootleg, or live; I will happily MP3 it and add it to the OAA. It's just too slow. The >site before this one was much, much better for me. Is there anything >host holder can do with it? I'll be very grateful... No, there is nothing I can realistically do. Believe me, there's plenty of bandwidth for everyone, the problem is some people abuse it -- if you were trying to download anything last night it was probably really slow because there was one person with about 15 concurrent downloads from some college (peachnet.edu - Georgia???) that was using almost all of the bandwidth (248Kbps - the same bandwidth that would support about 60 dialup connections). The only way I can keep this from happening is restricting the number of logins per username, and since we use a generic username, I would be restricting everyone. 15 concurrent downloads is no problem for my site if they are mostly dialup users, but when someone gets on their college computer lab's T-3 connection and hits my site as hard as they possibly can, it slows to a crawl. I've had 50 users on with 40 downloads before with no bandwidth problems -- this is because most people are still dialup. My server sits at my house, and I'm not home very much, but if I happen to see someone logged on 15 times, be prepared to have all of your connections killed, and your IP address denied from any further login attempts. Please, no more than 4 at a time, if I could restrict it, I would. So there's 3 choices: 1. I can lower the number of concurrent connections to 10 and most everyone who attempts to connect will be denied, but the lucky 10 will have plenty of bandwidth. 2. Someone can buy me a real FTP server application that will allow me to restrict the number of concurrent connections from a single IP. or, 3. The abusers of the OAA's FREE bandwidth can stop abusing it before the OAA becomes homeless again. And yes, if anyone has PROBLEMS, email me privately -- smac@oz.net. I know if I weren't into this whole OAA phenomenon, I would be thoroughly annoyed by the amount of OAA problem posts to the list. Nobody can do anything about any of the problems except me, so let's appease the "I get too much email" people. about the "Space Pills" bootleg - I pulled out my copy of "The Visitor," and there's no mention of "space pills on the case or the disc; and as far as I know, I don't have any problems with OOBE or Blue Room on my copy, but thanks for the clarification -- it went for $44.50 on ebay! I saw it on a video display at a store in Berkeley (Rasputin's) when the "little album" first came out, and they weren't giving up the video inside the machine. =) I'm surprised the US MTV show Amp has never shown this, as they've shown Toxygene, Asylum, and even the Blue Room video. - - Bobby # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Jan 1999 22:11:45 -0500 From: David Potosky Subject: (orb) Orb - Pommes Fritz I got the video luckily over the net - yes it is only a store promo copy. A few years ago, ok, maybe 5 years ago, a really cool guy named Jason Bilsky offered to dub for anyone his collection of Orb bootlegs. I can only attest to my own eagerness of getting (what ended up being 7 or 8) bootlegs. I hassled him, not out of irritation, but excitement. I don't think he posted much, if at all on the list again after that. I don't know how many people were on the list, or how many people jumped at his generous offer. I imagine the list has grown since then (btw, how many people are on this list?) In reading Lee's reply - I think he got diluged with requests all at once, and overwhelmed. This is actually a key reason why I am keeping quiet about my own Orb collection, which while I doubt holds a candle to Lazlo (my fellow New Mexican), is pretty nice (ok, in my opinion). I hope to be in a situation where I can make the offer to trades and what not, but let me say in advance (and I don't mean this meanly) it will be at my convenience. Any mixes I have that are not on tape format I would probably upload to OAA (when I connect to it). Anyway, I ask that there be some understanding for Lee and others that might not have gotten your stuff out to you right away. And Jason Bilsky, if you are listening, and are still out there, thank you again for the bootlegs. I still treasure every one, and am thankful! # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Jan 1999 22:21:11 -0500 From: David Potosky Subject: (orb) Chillout Megamix Someone asked about this before, and there is a Chillout Megamix, mixed by no other than DJ LX (or something like that) aka Alex Patterson. It is pretty cool, but I have only a tape copy. It comes with a little book about the same size as a cd box - it has two tracks on it, 1. Alex vs The KLF (approx 10mins) and 2. Orb vs Coldcut/Kiss FM (approx 14mins) - I was just wondering if anyone has heard of it or is in possession of it, as I do have it and just wanted to know a bit more about it.....is it rare at all? Also, yesterday I finally listened to the UFOff cd--the single disc version.... A guy at Island Records was nice enough to send a copy to the record store I work part time at, and we played it last night. I had never heard the Orbital Dance Mix of A Huge Evergrowing before...to be honest, I quite liked it.... It's kinda cool with a drum beat.... As for Mickey Mars...it wasn't THAT bad, but it was on the mediocre side.... Electronic fluff, mostly, IMHO. But it's a good thing to play in the store (sure beats the hell out of Whitney Houston or Celine Dion...) overall.... By-the-way, the dude who "sings" on Mickey Mars is NOT from Sacred Spirits.... I know, this has been beat to death already, but I didn't hear it until last night.... I could be, however, the guy who is sampled on that song by Enigma--sure as hell SOUNDS like the same voice, although I didn't recongnize that particular passage.... I'm not sure I understand the logic of some of the songs that were put on there--Pi, for example...and Pomme Fritz (I'm gonna get flamed for THAT one!).... And also, why WASN'T the song, "U.F.Orb" included? Enough for now.... :-p Later! I'm trying out my shoutcast server with the OAA again today, 1/13/98 for the next 8 hours (until 8:00 pm PST). I'm using this plugin that generates an html page that will show you what the current playing track is, but it seems to get hose on the "last 10" track list. I only have it setup for 3 connections at 32Kbps, so dialup users can forget trying to receive it, this will only work on ISDN or better, unless you've got a really clean 56Kbps connection. And I'm sure the 3 connections will fill up fast so if you get denied, sorry; I can't realistically support more than 3 at this speed on my circuit with all the other stuff it's doing.
