Someone may well still want it from you, possibly even at that price, if they have no other access to it. My main point was that it wasn't rare, not that you shouldn't try to flog it. (i wouldn't want to keep the video, the other party could > have it, i just *really* want that audio sample.) I heard something similar, but even more chillingly beautiful. One night, NPR was using MSNBC's feed, which at the time was an open mic on the roof of the Iraqi Ministry of Information. At first, all you could hear was the ambient (!) low crackle of anti-aircraft fire. After about 20 seconds of that, the muzzein's call to prayer from the mosque across the street began to sound. After almost a minute of that, suddenly, there was a burst of bomb blasts, fairly close to the mic, and correspondingly loud. Throughout it all, the patter of the AA fire and the muzzein's call to morning prayer continued unabated. Shortly after that, the MSNBC correspondent started talking, and it got a good deal less entrancing. I was driving home at the time, and was absolutely spellbound by the aural beauty and horror of the moment. Satellite phones are an amazing thing. Mike - The Lifefoms CD single contains six interpretations of the Lifeforms track that are mixed together. IIRC, part 3 corresponds to the track on the 2-CD set. When you say "is this the one that is really good", if you were disappointed with the 2-CD set, don't bother with the single. If you liked the title track on your 2-CD set, go for it. Actually, like the Lifeforms single/ep, Cascade is a single/ep taken from a song from the Lifeforms 2cd set. I would ALSO recommend picking up the single, My Kingdom, which is hauntingly beautiful...it combines music from Ennio Morricone's _Once Upon a Time in America_ soundtrack, and Vangelis' _Bladrunner_ soundtrack (from "Rachel's Song"). I've often described FSOL as sounding like what the Orb would sound like if they didn't have a sense of humor. (I don't mean that to be disparaging towards either Orb or FSOL-- just that Orb is more "fun," whereas FSOL is more "serious.") Oh, but the samples used by FSOL are a real goldmine-- ESPECIALLY for those of us freaks who really pine for the "good ol' days" of electronic music--the days of Synergy, Tomita, early Vangelis, etc--FSOL has sampled 'em all.... (They sampled a shitload of Tomita's Bermuda Triangle....) Speaking of Tomita--does anyone out there actually HAVE that on cd? AFAIK, it's available only as a Japanese import, but I'm not about to shell out $30+ for it...I can't even afford to buy domestic cds at the moment...I'm looking for it through a trade, if anyone has it.... FSOL, incidentally, is EXCELLENT music to read the works of H.P. Lovecraft by...it's an eerie, other-worldly sound.... :-) Later! I heard something somewhere about a bog problem. Also, could someone please enlighten me on what is FFWD, like what is it and what do they have to do with the Orb? I have a copy of one song, "Collosus", but I have no idea what the story is behind it. Thanks. Also, this is a little off the Orb topic, but does anyone on here have any Orbital videos on tape? I'm lookinf for some. I saw one once a long time ago and I'm trying to find it, and all of their videos. The one I saw (only a second of it) had a guy coming out of a kitchen sink... Can anyone help? Sorry for the dumb quesiions.... - -Nick ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Jan 1999 20:27:40 +0100 From: marcolphus Subject: (orb) About Discographies Center Well, I see that my page is quite interesting: yesterday I was 8 and today 34!!!!
