There are beings that live in the Ultraworld! I have proof! Last night I was laying in bed with some light reading by Robert Anton Wilson when all of sudden a girl lacking any physical features joined me in room. This girl wasn't beamed down like Star Trek, nor did she fly through the window like Tinkerbell. No, she had been there for an eternity waiting for me to catch up with time. I felt no surprise that she was there, nor was I curious as to how she got into my room. Her being there with me made all the sense in the world. I wish I could say that she brought good news but alas the truth must be told. Some many years ago the Ultraworld used to be a bright and cheery place filled with colors, sounds of children laughing, and of course Orb. To the chosen few Earthlings, who are privileged enough to hear them, the Orb is music. But what the Ultraworld dwellers discovered along time ago was that it also provided a link to a parallel world. That parallel world being Earth. After discovering the gateway the people of the Ultraworld were excited to find out that they were not alone. Finally, they thought, someone to share the wonders of Orb with. They began furious preparations for first contact with the people of Earth. When the day finally came thousands of Ultraworld beings gathered to bring peace, love, and Orb to the people of Earth. With the sacred five albums locked securely in a gold chest, the people of the Ultraworld descended onto Earth. The people of Earth, unready, maladjusted, and full of hate turned violent on the strange beings who lacked physical features and glowed with an eerie incandescence. The only peoples who extended a warm greeting to the strange beings from the parallel world were a small group of people from what is now present day Jamaica. Unfortunately this small group of people were greatly out numbered by the masses and thousands of Ultraworld beings cried out as they were mercilessly slaughtered. Those who were not slaughtered were driven back without their sacred vinyl. The portal has been sealed. Since the scattering of the sacred five albums the Ultraworld has been a cold and lifeless place filled with fear and paranoia. My quest is a simple one. Return the sacred five albums and in turn bring the Ultraworld back to prosperity. I know you can find it in your hearts to help my cause because without you the ultraworld does not exist. Since my quest has began I have only been able to obtain two of the sacred five albums the other three are listed below. Please help us in our cause. No price is to high to bring the Orb back to the Ultraworld. I haven't seen that movie in a while either, but I doubt that is where the sample is from. Remember, the rest of the sample says something about "Come with us to a place where man has never been, but where he will go." Definitely doesn't sound like something from 2010. I know the great Robert Anton Wilson is one of the few Popes. I agree with Wilson, that this is "..a religion I can believe in". Mainly because they believe in everything. That's kind of the inside joke of the religion. All the members are trying to achive TRUE SLACK by following the "best salesman ever", BOB. He wants us to do drugs, have sex, "quit your job and slack off" and most importantly "send your money now". There are two main books to check out, Church of the Subgenius and Revelation X. The books are a tough read, even for the most liberal minds, but it's a lot of fun. I've seen one of the recruitment videos, and I'll say this...TRIPPY! There are several newsletters as well as a great web page. They are always trying to sell something. As a matter of a fact, last year was the day that all the Subgenius were supposed to be taken away by these "aliens", spoke of in the sample. This was July 7, 1999....X-DAY. The founder and Pope Ivan Stang said, "If we don't achive TRUE SLACK on this day, then we will all be transported to hell and at the gates, BOB will be waiting with a book to sell you, entitled 'How To Survive In Hell On A Nickel A Day'." I'm waiting for the book. :o) The church was also founded in Dallas, Texas. Dallas is an ok city in Texas, but I live in Texas, so I think that it's cool. Irvine" Subject: (orb) My [least] favourite samples I've just read two digest's worth of posts about favourite Orb samples, and no mention of Rickie Lee Jones. Perhaps it's just too obvious? The way they used that interview is inspired, it's not just a sample stuck into a song, the song is actually crafted from the sample (it's even *called* "Little Fluffy Clouds"). I'm just going to have to assume that the discussion was about everybodies *second* favourite sample. Another thing I have to mention is my *least* favourite sample, which it appears many of us like. I'm talking about Victor Lewis Smith's joke phone call on Towers of Dub. I've never been a fan of VLS but he's done cleverer and funnier stuff than that. The security guy is doing his best to be helpful, he wouldn't last long if he treated every caller as a potential piss-take, and I find it embarrasing that VLS (and the listener) is laughing at him because he doesn't know who Haile Selassie and Marcus Garvey are (were). It's clear from earlier discussions on the list that many people don't know. If you don't know those names then there's no joke. It's not like Bart calling Moe and having him ask if anyone's seen Mike Rotch. [now THAT'S funny!] Enough ranting - I'm outta here. I get all gushy everytime I hear it. >:-) Thanks in advance - > >Sarah > > > Dont know if it's the sample you're talking to... But there's this monologue from Paris, Texas, a movie by Wim Wenders, with Harry Dean Stanton and Nastassia Kinski. But it's in OOBE (live 93). "the girl was...very young. the guy was... quite a bit older". Hope that helps. Ok, I added a 1G hard drive to ftp.mocker.org. May" Subject: (orb) OAA uploads? Hey... OAA is still down, I can't ftp to mocker.org, I get atimed out error or some such sillyness. Also, I just procured a copy of the US 1-cd version of Adventures.. Would anyone object to my uploading this to the OAA? I realize that a lot of the songs are almost the same as the versions of the 2-cd vesion, which is why I'm asking first. :) # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 May 1999 23:42:03 +0100 From: Jean Christophe DERRIEN Subject: (orb) Veto Benjamin wrote : Also, I just procured a copy of the US 1-cd version of Adventures.. Considering everything on the 1-CD version is either in print or already in the archive, it would seem a bit abusive to add it. If anyone *really* wants it, it isn't that hard to compile. Check the discography for details. (BTW, Lazlo, your discographies have spoiled the hell out of me...I wish more of them were as thorough and exhaustive as yours.) np: Beaucoup Fish - Underworld (BTW, absolutely f*cking fantastic live show last weekend in LA. See them.) Gratitude is thus due to Robbie Williams, whose dub-laden reggae sunsplash version of 'I Started A Joke' succeeds in not only changing the musical format of the original but even manages to alter the mood.
