For those of you not familiar, Howdy Doody was one of the highest-rated children's shows in the U.S. during the 1950s. Howdy Doody is a puppet, and who was the puppet master? Buffalo Bob, right? This supposed was THE episode that got him fired, the one with the notorious "doggy lawn cigars".... Another Orb-lister made a copy of this for me (it was never broadcast), and it is quite possibly the funniest episode ever. George Liquor is the main character.... Too bad Nickelodian was run by a bunch of uptight PMRC-wannabes.... Animation *almost* experienced a second "golden age," but everything in commercial animation went back to "business as usual" after that (although admittedly The Tick was a hoot)--anyone watch any Saturday morning cartoons lately? Although When I first had it, it was in heavy rotation, but after a much deeper listen, it's nothing more than ear candy. Can't compare with thier full lenght albums' Depth. That's whi I haven't been much of a B Side collector lately... The B side's usually only get listend to a few times for me... There are reasons why artists choose to not release these songs with their full length.. There are a few exceptions to this though, such as PJ Harvey's 4-Track Demos, and the 40 minute Blue room of course. I haven't listened to pomme fritz in longer than i can remeber. I like orblivion, but it's just not a `listenable' album. It's too choppy.. I think U.F.Off (2CD ver.) is quite nice in terms of listening... It's got all the good songs, in nice mixes that I didn't have before (got into the orb too late to get the early singles), and just flows... but orbus terrarum definitely takes the cake. my collection is reaching to the 200 CD mark, and they're ALL techno cds... i'm beginning to think more and more that orubs is *the* best ambient/techno cd of all time. It's just ... perfect. blaine # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 May 1999 12:14:04 -0500 (CDT) From: Jeremy J Graham Subject: Re: (orb) Collecting dust. > Well, there is just something about it. Maybe that gives it a lack of focus. I don't know... My LEAST favorite would have to include the January 3 (or whatever) mix of Perpetual Dawn from Aubrey Mixes... it just doesn't fit in with the rest of the album--I mean, where's the cream fil--uh, I mean, where's the music? I also particularly despise most of what's on Pomme Fritz (although I *do* like Alle Ist Schoen), and I loathe Oxbow Lakes and Slug Dub.... And am I the only one on this list who really hates Towers of Dub??? (YES! There, I said it, so don't bother....) ;-) Later all! I think I would have to go with .. toxygene.. it's fun, but it's too repetitive and it doesn't really have much interesting music content.. I must say that i do like the vocal versions of perp. dawn. when I stuck ufoff in the player, and heard the nice floating vocals, it was just soo cool. :) hehe.. The one bit of a song that i'd llooovvee to see expanded and played with would be the dark bit from the original lfc mix. it's such a great contrast, but it only lasts for 15 seconds! :) blaine # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 May 1999 14:06:41 -0500 (CDT) From: James Hill Subject: Re: (orb) least favorite Basically all of the mixes off of obscure trax.
