Sorry for the non Orb/Underworld post here, but this is big news for those of us in or are fans of the coin op entertainment industry: This might be of little significance to most, and no significance to the rest, but this is news that affects my life in more than just the entertainment genre. In an official anouncement released by WMS industries inc, makers of Bally and Williams pinball games, sent to their distributors on Monday, October 25, 1999 WMS will discontinue their pinball division. Star Wars episode 1 is their final pinball machine and production will be stopped November 18. This is the end of an era, for over 50 years Williams has been making pinball machines and the Bally name has been in the buisness even longer. Williams were the makers of such arcade classics as Gorgar, Black Knight, Pin*Bot, Fun House, The Addams Family, Twilight Zone, and Attack From Mars to name a few. Their video game and slot machine departments will continue operations as normal. Pinball is how I make my living, and this will probably have no affect on my buisness this christmas, but I can't help but worry as the biggest and the best manufacturer is out. Stern Electronics (formerly Sega Pinball) is the only pinball manufacturer left, but for how long? I guess I have no choice but to find a new job field... Don't know if one should pay full price for it, and I haven't listened to the whole disc yet, but.... also found the Front 242 Mut@ge.Mix@ge disc (used) with 3 Orb mixes on it! I never really gave Front 242 much listening, but this is good. I guess it came out in '95. and they had a promo single disc by Richie Hawtin (Plastikman) from his upcoming "Decks, EFX & 909" release. It's based on Yello's oh Yeah, called "minus orange". Pretty typical Hawtin...beat driven, very repetitive, but the packaging is incredible. Clear round soft plastic cover, with a clear disc and 3" orange ball printed on the disc. not bad for a quick stop in the store. - -Bill ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. Strange, considering they've > been doing the rounds for about a decade now... ===>The only Eat Static I've heard was on the Transmissions From Planet Dog sampler. ATTENTION ALL LISTERS: If you don't have this sampler, RUN out and get it! It's got tracks from Eat Static, Banco de Gaia (where I first encountered him), Timeshard (their track, "Crystal Oscillations," is one of the best electronic tunes ever, IMHO), and Children of the Bong. It was the best 2cd set I've ever bought. (Yeah, even better than Adventures....) I heard a later release from Timeshard, and was severely disappointed. But their tracks on this sampler are top- notch! Later!
