I'm only speaking from what I know about the Icelandic postal service (it sucks! it sucks!) but: as a rule, when sending a registered mail to somebody, *only* the recipient may sign for the delivery, and should preferably show IDs too, and the person must sign full name & social security number. the only possible exceptions are when the recipient is a baby (too young to sign etc) and when the mail is addressed to a company (in which case the person who accepts the sending must sign with full name & social security number, and show IDs too (well, a lot of us are kinda slack about that, but... ;) it's only a few $s extra for that extra safety _and_ some minimal insurance ($50 over here). hmm I guess I'll stop here and not tell you some of the stupid behindthescenes horror stories about fubars over here ;) Agust "Nemesis1" - aaj@centrum.is - ICQ: 1290264 - http://nemesis1.cjb.net w00p! :P # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 May 2000 21:43:24 +0000 From: "Agust 'Nemesis1' Arni Jonsson" Subject: Re: (orb) ATT: *MoonDogg* and the rest of you! JC is completely trustworthy. we've traded for 4+ years, and only had one problem, WHEN: 2. the french postal service 'lost' a package i sent - they are f*****g awful, and i now send everything to him by 'registered' post. 3. i think JC is away at the moment (in cannes?), so that would explain the silence. just my 2cents worth... cheers, - --- Smiley # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 May 2000 18:56:58 +0200 (CEST) From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Christoph=20Kluxen?= Subject: Re: (orb) rare orb mix Hi,folks I can tell you something about the Roedelius-Global Trotter Vol.1,cause it``s a german release and it``s one of my favourite Ambient Stuff I ever heard with LX(including Orbus terrarum and FFWD and Blue Room). There are 4 tracks on it,three of them are with lots of edits by LX,but remixed by Bickley/Roedelius(???),he``s a a brilliant Mixer from Projekt like Hyperborea(with Tom Green),besides the Remixes are mastered by Eric-Spitzer-Marlyn,who worked with Roedelius all the time ,another fine aspect, but these tracks really sound like a work from LX,it``s a record based on a session by Hirasawa/Konishi/Alquimia/Roedelius with a really japanese or chinese touch, you can find excellent rythm loops and hidden humor in it.also The Edge from U2 is involved, don``t know anything about him. The last track is a remix by LX called Parallel Motives 2 and it``s a re-remix/crossfade by Patterson, another brilliant one. I read some time ago in an interview it would be a great joy for him to work with Roedelius, and I really believe Roedelius is one of the greatest Ambient composers we have. And he is an upright nobel to the Orb list. (PERIOD)I know that this is a tell tale sign of where the future of music engineering is going. The guys in Death in Vegas did right on the Continuo Sessions. Artists creating, reworking and live master recording of the session is far off studios. I asked LX in person a bit about the Rodelius (my six degrees) and he said that everyone on the list should get their INTL friends to purchase it right away too ; ) Now Playing - - Echoboy - Kit and Holly P.S. any one with catering, backstage passes, will call, any priority tix information on The Cure @ Mars Music Ampitheater please nobelly contact me: johannah33@hotmail.com/ josephhannah1@aol.com/ Irish Blessings! # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 May 2000 10:31:11 -0700 From: rachel Subject: Re: (orb) rare orb mix wow! this one sounds good - anyone have any more info on it? However, I did not have a good experience with him. Just a data point, not a personal attack. Others' mileage clearly varies, but that doesn't make my experience any less valid or pertinent. Also, as a side note, if you live in a country with a worse-than-average mail system, please have the courtesy to warn your trading partners, so they know what they are getting into, and can take appropriate steps. Now for the off-topic bit: I still have LiquidW killfiled, so I missed his original post, but I really can't let his revisionism (as quoted by others) slide by. So, perhaps a short historical recap is in order: A year or so ago, I received a couple of unprovoked, abusive, profanity-laced private emails from him after we disagreed during a discussion onlist. I told him to sod off, killfiled him, and reported him to abuse@aol.com. He and a couple of friends then proceeded to mailbomb me, subscribe me to porno mailing lists, etc. ...the usual unimaginative sorts of things. A while later, he posted that he was going to be traveling across America, and would like to meet and/or crash with fellow Orblisters on his way. I posted, pointing out that if someone behaves in the manner LiquidW does online, you might not want to meet them, or have them sleeping in your home. And yes, I characterized him as a thug. He took offense to this, for some reason. ;) (And another round of mailbombing, from different accounts, of course, took place.) YMMV in regard to LiquidW, but that doesn't change his actions towards me. That is hopefully my last post on the subject. I apologize for the necessity of making it. If anyone wants to continue this, please feel free to take it to private email (with one obvious exception). (No mailbombs please!) ;) Chris (still waiting for Cydonia, and beginning to feel like Estragon) np: The Beautiful South - 36D disc 1 # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 May 2000 15:36:10 -0700 (PDT) From: Basscadet@webtv.net Subject: (orb) Viper Room Liquid W said: "go naked " Even though I personaly think I look great in the nip, I'm pretty damn sure the beautiful people who go to the Viper Room would not be so impressed.
