After fiddling with this file for a bit I discovered that the problem is with the ID3 tag -- there's some cruft in it that makes players angry. Take your favorite ID3 tool (and not something like WinAmp or XMMS, but a tool for hacking on ID3 tags) and strip the ID3 header out, then reconstruct it from your favorite discography. Works fine after that. I'm suspicious that it was the spoor left behind by RealJukebox, which seems to leave nasty blobs in every MP3 it produces. I recommend blowing these away on sight. The tools I used were the id3lib example tools from the id3lib distribution, version 3.7.13. I stripped the tags with 'id3convert -s' and then remade them using 'id3tag' and a big long ugly command line. The home for id3lib is: http://id3lib.sourceforge.net I did this on a Unix box, but I think that id3lib can be compiled on Windows as well. It's supposed to be cross-platform. Share and Enjoy! Alaska legalized medical use of marijuana last year. This year we had a ballot initiative to decriminalize it for personal, industrial, and commercial use. It took over 40% of the vote, but failed. People are saying it wouldn't have failed if it wasn't so eager -- the main problem being the restitution clause for criminals convicted of marijuana crimes. That clause said that the state legislature would have to form an investigative council into finding some form of restitution for people convicted under marijuana laws. This tunred a lot of people off of the initiative, mostly because they saw this as an enormous sink of government money. The rest of it seemed to be pretty widely supported. The proponents of the initiative said they'd keep trying the next time around. In the past it was legal for adults to have small quantities of marijuana, and to grow plants for personal consumption. In 1990 or so this law was repealed, mostly because the Federal government threatened to withdraw all federal transportation funding in Alaska. The governor caved in instead of taking this to court. But a large part of the population up here are opposed to criminalization of something they see as essentially harmless and a waste of money to fight. 'james - -- James A. Crippen ,-./-. I got my 215 card (which is technically only available in Humboldt Cty) but now more counties/jurisdictions are accepting them... in humboldt you really don't even need one. With a 215, you are also eligible to buy from semi-licensed cannabis clubs in san francisco (you must smoke on premesis), oakland (fat fat fat bags for $10, but they were shut down 3 months ago), and berkley (the cops are really starting to back off from small (i.e. less than 1 lb) deals... i've heard stories of where people were caught, had their 215, and were let free without confiscation of their stash...). Now if orange county didn't exist, it might be able to work it's way south... the only problem is cali is surrounded by much more conservative areas (i.e. utah, oregon, arizona) that will not take so quickly on this. However I see stuff coming in from canada into washington state. If the pac. nw and california manage to get their shit together, it could cause enough stir/buzz that it might become a common proposal in other areas. The acid test (no pun) will be to see if politicians start to cite lowered crime rates because of legalization, i.e. NORML's holland magazine ads ("Windmills, lilies, and a lowered crime-rate, this is what happens when pot is legalized"). They had a stupid robotic arm playing some terrible song and turning pieces of a DJ setup into parts of the car (turntable platter -> wheel, speakers into the inside of the car, etc). # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Nov 2000 10:41:29 -0500 (EST) From: "Benjamin L. One of the things I like about this list is that the traffic NEVER gets out of control. I can pretty much always read responses and there's rarely so many that I have to revert to mode. This conversation doesn't seem to be stiffling any other ones and it's adding interesting discussion. Besides, how many of you have been on a non-moderated chat room/mailing list/bulliten board/etc that always stayed on topic? The Orb remix(6.35/Children of jumma-suns of Arqa(produced by LX Paterson &Wadada) is good as always, besides my favourite tracks are "finely powered rain" by fruit loop,"orang ulu" by sounds from the ground and the "fort four fish" by grahem mussey & collin seddon, but the whole Cd is really cool,Simon Posford from Hallucinogen,Juno Reacctor and Banco de Gaia, what a old-school meeting that is,great! I did always like Suns of Arqa, there is a CD called "Whirling Dub" by Suns of Arqa (ARKA 2103 CD).The CD contains 4 Tracks, and it´´s a contribution between Youth,Greg Hunter,Astralasia,Wadada and several others, there are no links who has done the different tracks, but track 2 really reminds me on the good old orb-style,is it Astralasia, noone knows I think. I think all should get their hands on the TFCompilation, they are really fast. Besides I want to thank Seofon for his tip (MBM-Sublimal Sandwich),the Amin Tobin-Supermodified-tip and besides Oddjob for the stuff from a group called "The drome". Purchasing a CD is as unneeded as smoken a bowl, but we all choose to reject nirvana in our own ways. Jesus Ala Buddha, I love you all. I hate nazis. Im on a list for vaccinations and what a plethora of knowledge it is. We get a little off topic sometimes, but being that we all are interested in our kids health, we share a lot in common, so we talk about it. So hay, if weed is the discussion and it will keep people from complaining further about the hold back on Cyd, grate! I don't think that Alex would mind. Actually I hope to lure him into a conversation with some dank when I go see him DJ. I like bongs because in my old town Seattle we got nothing but sticky hydroponics dank and you just cant keep it lit in a joint form. But here in Kentucky, you are shunned if you cant roll a tight one. (O= Lets not make it into a pot list, (im sure there are plenty out there anyway), but it wont hurt if we go off topic sometimes, and maybe you might learn something. And i'd like to add that this is a no less perteinent topic than talking about steve reich... grass is a part of LX's repitoire, as well as his music; it's a subculture, but no different than samplespotting in importance. Drugs do play into the vast share of the music that we're talking 'bout here. Ben in Space. p.s. coldcut really really ripped it up at the El-Rey a few weeks ago. I think the xen tour is over, but if you have a chance to see coldcut, they're really really really amazing now (as opposed to simply incredible). Also, if anyone has any info on the band/group M.V.P. that was touring with coldcut, please let me know, as I really want some recordings of theirs (and I will buy them legit... I'm asking because I can't find them anywhere). # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ End of orb-digest V2 #383 *************************
