In the second week of january I'll have an interview with mister Paterson (some questions you like to be answered by Alex???) But!!!! Mercury also has an exclusive 40 minutes promo mix from Once More! According to the pressmanager it's a great mix that's not gonna be released. I feel compelled to add my $0.02 for some reason ... I support the prevailing opinion that /Orblivion/ is not the Orb's most enrapturing work but is by no means "bad." Given what I've heard of /Cydonia/, I think that the most critical term I'll levy on /Orblivion/ is "transitional." And, while we're all here because of the Orb, it is worth pointing out that if you want "trippy soundscape journeys" there are plenty of other artists to check out (many of them related to the Orb in some way). I've ranted about Sketch enough already. There's a new album by some guy called Solea Amphibia that I'm quite impressed with. Higher Intelligence Agency is classic. And as long as I bring it up, maybe someone on this list who has the album can tell me whether that is in fact David Sylvian doing the vocal on "At Eleven." Not as I told a remix from Once More, but a live mix from Alex Paterson as I think after listening to it. The tracklisting is as follows: 1. Little Fluffy Clouds - Detour Mix 2. Once More - Debrock Mix 3. Centuries (mix of albumtrack!)- Eurofen Mix 4. NY Connection - Once More 5. Shem - Lost Woods Of Timber 6. I'm Allright - Keith Hudson - DB Remix 7. S.E. Berlin - Sissy 8. Lovin You 9. Multiverse - Puffin In Paradise It goes from 4x4 into dubby ambient stuff with loads, loads and loads of (know and unknown) samples. To me, it's more a promo for the DJ-sets from Le Petit Orb than for Cydonia. But it's a great mix! Happy Xmas to all of you Nico BTW don't know if it's been mentioned but the tracklisting for the official Cydonia is as follows: 1. Once More 2. Promise 3. Ghostdancing 4. Turn It Down 5. Ednable 6. I think Orblivion was not their greatest album, certainly not my favorite, but I still love it. I mean, the tracks on their are perhaps not as "classic" in my opinion as some of their earlier stuff, but that still doesn't change the fact that they're much greater than your "average" techno. I mean, compare Orblivion to, say, Alice Deejay :) (j/k). Orblivion is still a great album just maybe not AS great as others. As far as people saying with Cydonia Orb is trying to go pop, I somehow doubt that. If they ARE trying to go pop, they sure aren't doing a good job of it :) Once More is a really really great track (except there's a synth line in there I forget where that sounds rather verging on the cheesy). I seem to recall LX saying in an interview that he was trying to besiege the pop world w/ this album or something like that, but he also said that about Toxygene, and that's not necessarily bad just cuz it's catchy. I'd hope LX didn't throw in vocals just to please a more commercial audience, and I don't believe he did. However, I think it's pretty stupid to say "well, if you don't like Orblivion, get off the list." That's like people telling me (multiple times, I might add) that if I have problems with the American government, why don't I leave. That's a pretty bad argument. I love all the Orb's stuff, pretty much, *except Outlands*. :) Somebody else said that if they heard ABTU for the first time today they wouldn't love it as much as they did in 91. I heard it for the first time in 99 and fell in love immediately, and I really think that album is not dated at all. Just saying... that's all. Thinking of Cydonia, does anybody else think Yungle is a great track? I don't suppose anybody knows where the japanese voice sample comes from, I wouldn't think anybody would... Sounds like the Blade Runner ads to me. And lastly, does anybody know anything about the "Scatman"? I heard the song he did with the "ski-da-ba-da-ba-do" if anybody else knows what I mean. did he put out an album?
