Most of the time that war is not some 1st world country, or more specific to this discussion, the US vs some Third World country. It is often groups within that country. Be it different tribes in African Nations, or different Religions in Bosnia. Some of it is brought on by leaders who want power and the money that comes with it, from controlling the nations banks, and natural resources, inciting people of their religion, race, etc. into patriotism. They then use that group to gain power. It is very difficult to come up with proof that the very existence of 1st World countries (has everyone even heard of a second world country?) creates or perpetuates the existence of 3rd world countries or the fact that they are poor. In fact one of the problems is that when money is given to such countries it often just lines the pockets of the leader. Or else jobs created by foriegn companies and investment does not have a completely positive effect. Some people have more money but the environment gets wrecked. But there again you can look at countries largely unaffected by 1st world money, like Indonesia. In Indonesia, the principle environmental problem is the yearly mass deforestation and the smog from the burning of those trees by poor sustenance farmers. jon # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 03 Jun 2001 18:47:41 -0700 From: Andrew Krieg Subject: (orb) Discography Updates I just sent Lazlo a big update for his discography for whenever he gets the time to update it. No worries though, my girlfriend works for an airline so the flights were essentially free. I wouldn't be able to live without bloodshed had I actually paid for the flights. The poor bastard got arrested at his hotel before the vancouver orb massive arrived for the lynching. Apparently this fellow had identical piercings as LX and a fake passport. The poster on the door of the club ended with "legal action pending" so I assume LX or his label will be suing. My only discomfort with the whole ordeal is that a reply to the initial imposter warning was sent out by the promoter stating that they had the real LX. This leads me to believe they may have known all along, which makes me hate them more than the imposter himself. Look at the center of the CD, near the hub, on the bottom surface. There will be text reading either "MASTERED BY NIMBUS" or something with Mayking. The Nimbus one is the first pressing, the Mayking one is the re-press. I think some friends and I encountered the LX clone on April 23 wandering the book section of the Virgin Megastore in Chicago. Why do I think this? - - He trainwrecked a bunch of times during his instore set. I know LX is hardly the most technically skilled DJ, but this was fairly cringe-inducing stuff. - - He was aloof--in fact, he was downright rude--to a couple of friends of mine whose dream it was to meet the man and who presented him with a free pack of (excellent) vinyl from their small record label. Hardly the friendly, approachable, affable LX that's been described ad nauseum on this list. Anyone else run into this impostor? It was a decidedly unpleasant experience. My friends used to worship the man, and now think he's just an asshole. And not a very good DJ, either. These opinions are not necessarily my own, but I can't really blame my friends for having them. I shot the breeze (separately) with him in the book section about the technical problems they'd had in Detroit (ADATs blowing up, etc.) and didn't so much find him rude as much wonder whether he might have some kind of social anxiety disorder or something. But I too was surprised after reading again and again on this list about how apparently open he is to interacting with fans. Maybe he was just having a bad day. Or maybe it was the clone... JG PS - Well-considered rebuttals are welcome, but please don't flame me out of some "LX is god and dissing him is blasphemy" stance, thanks very much. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ End of orb-digest V2 #474 *************************
