Am I doing something wrong? Well, I suppose if this message never shows up I won't ever find out, will I? I just read the comment on UMRA from someone who seemed baffled that there is a Peter Wingfield Fan Club. Obviously they are basing their incredulity on the fact that they've only known him as Simon Pemberton, the ne'er-do-well, and not as Methos, the immortal. And they keep harping on his backwards facing baseball cap. I don't get. Do people not wear their baseball caps backwards in the UK? Or is it just that most of the people who listen to The Archers are older and a little more conservative and think it looks sloppy or unkempt or something? He was wearing his baseball cap backwards in Denver and I thought it looked rather endearing (of course, maybe he was just having a bad hair day... or should I say a no hair day since he had recently got it buzzed for his part in "Over Here"). ;-) Teresa ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: hilinda@lightlink.com (Linda Wyatt) Subject: Re: messages not appearing Date: 03 Apr 1996 16:15:49 -0500 > I sent a message on Monday that still hasn't appeared > on the list. SPOILERS! # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # Open Letter to Carol Ann!: Bravo Carol Ann! Congratulations on another page turner...or should I say screen scroller! Peter's bits, written by the man himself were fabulous. Charming. Thoughtful. Amusing. Just wonderful. I actually laughed out loud a couple of times. Perhaps he has an interest in writing? If not, he should. At the very least, I hope his contributions to the newsletter graciously continue. Is it possible I am even more smitten now than I was before? Help! Peterplexy has taken me. Jacquie Groom's bits on the Archers were great. So nice to have an expert on hand. It was also nice and tactful of her not to mention that Simon's current thread on umra is predominantly titled, "Simon Pemberton, Spawn of Satan".( A new question for Peter...is he aware that there is a whole faction of people who feel this way about Simon?) Jacquie's story was very nice too! Thanks to Kayla for taking the time to put together the word search. I'm going to have a go at it later on. Just like in the first issue, I was fascinated to read the bios of our fellow club members. A truly formidable group! Makes me wish I'd written a new one. Maybe next time? And finally for this: >I would like to thank our contributors Peter Wingfield, Lisa Bell.... I thank you. Me, mentioned in the same breath with Him! Oh, it's almost too overwhelming. A dream realized!!! Now, if only I could get as close to him in person... Thanks again Carol Ann for all of your work. I can't wait to see the hard copy. And many thanks also to our fearless leader, Linda. It's amazing how we've grown so large, so fast! You're doing a great job (just be sure to keep lighting that candle...) Thought you all might be interested in reading the descriptions...even though it is a bit frustrating not to get to see it. They don't actually mention Him at all in the blurbs. Silly Brits...he is, no doubt, the BEST one on the show.Hope no one minds them... * * * For Sunday. Channel 1 20.20 Over Here. The first installment of a two-part comedy-drama by John Sullivan set in World War II. When their base is flattened by Messerschmitts, raw USAAF B17 recruits are forced to share an RAF base with a squadron of hotshot young Spitfire pilots led by Archie Bunting. Anglo-American relations get off to a shaky start and Archie narrowly avoids a court martial after mistaking the American aircraft for an enemy bomber. With Samuel West, Martin Clunes, Sharon Geater, Jay Goede. For Monday Channel 1 21.10 Over Here. Conclusion of a two-part comedy-drama by John Sullivan set it World War II. Following a head-on collision, pilots Archie and Lenko find themselves occupying neighboring hospital beds. They discover they have a lot in common, including a penchant for poker and an attractive Welsh WAAF called Bronwen. Relations seem to be thawing between their superiors, too, with talk of an Independence Day celebration at the manor house. With Samuel West, Martin Clunes, Sharon Geater, Jay Goede. Well, that's it. No mention of Peter. But, I must say I am impressed with the length of the descriptions...no TV Guide blurbs here. BTW, the only person I recognize from the cast list is Samuel West, whom you might remember from "Howards End" as the poor young clerk who had his life ruined by associating with those two sisters. He was quite good in that. Here's hoping we'll get to see this program soon! Lisa ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "frj" Subject: Re: Waaaah! A few people have told me they need copies; I'll forward the names to you. Once you get an idea of how many people, I can help you figure out how to do a tree or whatever. My personal opinion: Yeah, 6 characters is worth seeing. His part is small, but all the small part characters spend most of the play sitting around, so you can see him a lot even when he isn't doing anything. There is one line, which slips my mind, that he says in that sweet voice that just kills me, and it's worth it just for that. :-) Oh, and there is some talk of immortality that gave me the giggles. I'm hoping to do some grabs from the video soon, will let you all know. Antonia and Jane, on the other hand, is worth seeing eventually, just because it's his first acting job, but he's in it all of 15 seconds, and I don't know if it's worth copying tapes for. Maybe Sharon could stick his 15 seconds worth on the end of the other tape? Sharon, would you agree to that? Copy the taxi scene only?
