It's possible the P.O. lost them, but I've never had problems getting my mail before. I still get my mail forwarded from Hawaii and I live in Massachusetts now. Lisa stamped and cut out 3 large and 3 small hearts and 3 D'd them to a pretty pink background that is covered with tiny hearts. This was layered onto white cardstock. Inside she stamped and embossed Happy Valentine's Day in large pink letters. Thank you Lisa. I feel so special receiving this all the way from Hawaii. Nicky Price, the Fairy Stamper, sent a gorgeous card from Hawaii also. She stamped and cut out an image of a sexy fairy dressed in a little red number that is enhanced by red glitter. She then layered the fairy onto blue mulberry paper. She stamped and embossed shooting stars in gold all over the mulberry. The stars look as if they are coming from the wand the fairy is holding. This is layered onto black cardstock. The four corners of the card were cut with decorative scissors (or a corner punch). The border of the card is edged in gold. Nicky filled the card with multicolored confetti stars and confetti faries. Thank you Nicky. I received a RAK from Rubber Maid long before I understood what RAK meant. I do not remember if I ever acknowleged her card. I really want to thank Rubber Maid for her kindness. She stamped symbols of Washington onto a piece of Olive colored cardstock. Images consisted of the White House, a telepone and dollar signs. An image of Mr. Clinton was also stamped on the card. His nose is very long and near him is stamped, "oh no, Mr. Bill." Rubber Maid sent this card long before Monica Gate was all the news. Perhaps Rubber Maid can see into the future. If she cannot how could she have known what was to come? Thank you Rubbermaid. I hope that you will accept my humble and very sincere thank you for this RAK. Anon. stamped a pegasus on a small beige rectangle, colored it in gray, then layered this over a red rectangle and then onto a black textured notecard. Great example of how to use one stamp to create a striking card. Martha's card--I think this is called a trifold? There are two different flaps to open. On the front, a rainbow embossed pegasus floats against a beautiful sky with big puffy clouds. The sky motif goes all around the card on both sides. She trimmed the card to match the scallops of the clouds and also arond the pegasus's extended wing. At the top peak of the center panel (its top shows when card is closed) is a sun embossed in gold. Inside, she embossed "Have a Sunny Day" in gold. Lovely. Carrie Anne Dennison stamped a pegasus on very fine orange paper and cut carefully around it, then layered it over beautiful gold and orange paper. This goes over a notecard stamped with stars (which are hand-carved!) and sponged. This card has a very ethereal feel to it. Susan Curtis's card features a meeting of a fairy and a pegasus, both stamped and colored in, over a grove of pine trees.(great depth on these.) The cloudy blue cardstock makes a perfect sky. Leon Bellin's card has pegasai in various sizes in black against a beautiful blue. On the front, one pegasus is embossed in pale blue. Inside, more pegasai in black and another embossed in pink. Also embossed (this in rainbow) is the phrase stamp: Only those who attempt the absurd achieve the impossible." Great design! Thanks to PK Stamper a.k.a. Old timers please bear with me. When one has accumulated a fair amount of catalogs, you will find certain images repeat in various catalogs, and you become familiar with most of these over time. This is called clip art, and its pretty much in the public domain. Several companies organize and sale these images by topics for reuse. One is called Dover and their books seem to be the most commonly available. Stamp Companies Claim to have made minor modification that allow them to put them under copyright. I suspect what is really going on is most companies copyright their whole catalog rather than individual image, and just don't bother with a long clarification of this complicated issue. I doubt that anyone would try to make an issue out of your use of these stamps. As to original art (done specifically for the company and catalog) if the artist had plans for personal use of original design, they will not allow its use as an angel stamp. Several companies that carry a mix of original and public domain, and therefore need to clarify by image are Redheads and Rolling Bay. (I haven't been in contact with RB for 2years so things may have changed.) An example of an artist owned catalog is Paper Parachute. She offers a one year license for unlimited usage. The reason she limits it to a year, is because of potential changes (if she should sale, etc,) She wants the right to alter angel status for herself and also for any potential buyer. i-sis (Sally Kennedy) This message was from IsisStamps@webtv.net (Sally Kennedy) - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum. Really capture the heart of RSA/KB stamps...lots of color and zaniness. Isis Stamps: Alice is having another tea party. We see Alice in the background with crown and wand, orange leaf background behind her. In the foreground, a checkered tablecloth with a cat popping out of a teacup, another teacup steaming and a person popping out of a teapot. Looks like quite the party...bet the neighbors will call the cops! Sandra Hampson stamped a large pink flamingo wading in a lovely tropical ocean, an island with palm trees in the background. That's stamped in black, the flamingo is colored and the background of both sea and sky is sponged (I think) with pink and blue. She then mounted it on a black notecard. Great card--I can almost feel the tropical breezes. AlphaBecky: a woman is literally at the end of her rope and the panic button's going off. Meanwhile, a group of boys race over, one asking "What's wrong with Mom?" Great cloudy blue sky, green hills, winding road. Every woman out there has had one of these days..... Judy Storgaard's card has a very 1950s-ish family visiting the "Black Heels of South Dakota". As they stand on a rocky cliff, large (very large) black high heels loom above them. Clever! Meanwhile Stamprgal takes us to the "Ken Brown School of Dance" (and yes, it is as scary as you'd imagine!" While one couple happily does what looks like a cross between a fox trot and a tango, another woman hangs her head in shame as her rotund partner does the splits. Two old biddies gaze in the window, looking horrified. On the back is the caption: Trixie didn't know it but Jimbo had just discovered a new form of dance. The whole card's wonderful. I really like how she did the floorboards. I think they're drawn? thanks to Sally Kennedy for hosting this wonderful swap and also for the tea bags and unm. We should do this again! This was a real joy. The requirement for participation were very simple and Germaine made the whole thing very "newbie friendly." In addition, we got great gifts just because... You can't beat that as an incentive to get stamping! The cards I received were outstanding and all done by newbie impersonators. Marilyn stamped a very cute flower arbor (Imaginations) onto glossy white cardstock and added a cloud (Good Stamps Stamp Good) in the sky above the arbor. She stamped, colored and cut out a little girl with her cat and 3-D'd her in front of the arbor. Inside the card she stamped "Those who plant kindness harvest Love" from The Stamp Pad Company. She decorated her envelope with the same pretty cloud and stamped or brayered a space for the stamp to be placed. Marilyn has did a great job of coloring and combining colors. I like the soft summery feeling of this card. Nancy stamped and colored a beach scene (Stamp Cabana) on white cardstock and cut it out with decorative scissors and layered it onto blue and coca colored cardstock. She then layered this onto navy cardstock. Inside she used a word stamp from PSX to stamp "Near the Sea" for the saying. She embossed the words in copper ep. Very nice effect. This is as close as a Louisiana girl can get to seeing the sea and a beach without leaving town. Thank you Nancy. Andrea Schrack created a very pretty card on coral colored cardstock. She stamped and colored a little girl and then layered her on top of dark blue mulberry paper. She stamped and cut out 3 small hearts (?) with decorative scissors and positioned them in a row on the left side of the girl. I like the color combinations. Great job. Now for the goodies I received in my swap package. Germaine, the swap hostess sent samples of a doorknob hangers, magnets, plastic bags, a large envelope and vellum sample and stock for making bookmarks. Instructions on Basic Stamping Techniques and Step byStep embossing techniques by RubberStampede supplied by Stampznstuff . Rubber Stamp Rampage supplied two unmounteds and instructions on How to Mount A Rubber Die. From Sheryl Porter a laminated card with a unmounted squiggly heart and a small halo block that is perfect for the unmounted and instructions on how to use the Halos system. Jackie Lewis of Inky Antics sent 3 unmounteds of a monkey with his arms extended, a branch, and a word stamp that says "Hang in there..." Ms. Lewis also included a very nice card addressed to us Newbie Swap participants welcoming us to the world of stamping. Paper Arts Studio sent a paper sampler with a variety of papers including corrugated paper, handmade papers, vellum and raffia ribbons. Karen Harris sent sample of her the marbled envelopes/cardstock she sells. I would like to add my personal thank you to all the vendors for their generosity in supplying us with all these goodies to help us with our stamping. I hope all the participants feel as good as I do about this experience. Reeser" Subject: RS: Earthwrite - Need to vent Hi all: I've been going through all my e-mail today and lo and behold here's a questionnaire from Earthwrite. Not only am I listed with my e-mail address (message sent to me along with alot of us who post to the list) but it was also sent to the mail list too. So I got this questionnaire twice. I am not a very happy camper. I buy from vendors on this list that I have come to respect them through reading the posts by others who have made purchases from them. Sort of like - this vendor is good - so buy from them. As of now, I have seen nothing postive on Earthwrite, and personally to spend money to join a "club" that allows me to purchase paper at supposedly "wholesale" prices isn't worth it to me. It feels like this guy is trying way to hard to get us to buy his stuff. I think he needs to back-off. Letty This message was from "L. I believe that items which could still be under copyrights in effect were being discussed. This was discussed to death in rec.crafts.textiles.needlework. The fact that a copyrighted item is no longer produced (like limited edition cross-stitch charts) does not allow others to bootleg/pirate it. The same condition exists when a company goes under or a copyright holder dies. The item does not *poof!* enter public domain while the copyright is still in effect or renewable by heirs. The secondary considerations are "Do the new heirs to or purchasers of the copyright want bother with sueing over the violation?" and "Would the violator want to risk finding out the hard way?" Some folk will sue just because they enjoy suing, whether there's any money to be made or not. Scoupe95@aol.com wrote: > [relative to photographed images] > . . . if the company is out of business and there is no way > for them to make money off the image anymore, I would think the rights to that > image would be up for grabs. Even when the copyright fully *expires* the "rights" do not go "up for grabs". If that were so, someone *else* could obtain copyright on the same images. Perhaps a better phrase would be "Copyright expiration ends limitations on usage." What I would like to hear is whether the license for usage may be limited *after* the sale? Angel companies license their images for handproduction use, sometimes requiring that they be listed as copyright holders whenever possible. May this license at-time-of-purchase be *later* reduced or rescinded? I'm hoping, which is just a consumer's hope, that items currently in secondary retailer's and wholesaler's stocks which were "Angel" when sold to them will remain "Angel" *even if the copyright holder changes its/his/her/their policy*.
