Point your web browser at http://crafts.dm.net/ . - - ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Mar 1998 08:43:12 -0600 From: "Barbara" Subject: RS:COMM: Halos Grabbag $5.00 Fellow Stampers, Halos are acrylic blocks with recessed grooves that have industrial strength Velcro hook tape in the grooves. You can see through the mount so you can see exactly where you are stamping. You can also combine more than one stamp on a mount instead of stamping several individual images on a card. You put the loop side of the industrial strength Velcro on the back of the um. It has a sticky back so it is easy to put on. Then you just put the um on the acrylic mount and the Velcro holds it together. There are several people on the list that have expressed an interest but don't want to spend $20.00 for the starter kit of HALOS plus the $5.99 for the yard of loop tape and $15.00 for the Kai scissors without knowing they like the system first. So this got me to thinking that what people need is a trial kit that would be very inexpensive and still something useful if they find that HALOS aren't the way they want to go. So what I have to offer is a HALOS grabbag. It has a 1" x 1" acrylic mount with the hook tape already in the recessed grooves and 5 postage size ums that already have the industrial strength loop tape on them. All of this for $5.00 including shipping in U.S. Add $1.00 shipping to Canada and $2.00 shipping to Australia. The HALOS starter set does not have the 1" x 1" mount in it so if you decide you like the system there would be no duplication of mounts. The postage size ums include a dragon holding a heart, a blue bird getting ready to land, a butterfly in flight, a scarecrow in a frame looking at a sunflower, and a frog on a lily pad. For those of you that are already sold on the idea of HALOS I have a special for you too. Free shipping in U.S. when purchasing the HALOS starter set along with my UM Grabbag. You can see the image in my grabbag at http://www.kans.com/~stamps/plate.htm The HALOS starter set consists of four acrylic blocks. Sizes included are l.5" x l.5", 2" x 3.5", 2" x 6", and 3.5" x 4.5". Each set comes with 1/4 yd of 4" loop tape. The whole set of 4 and the tape is $20 (plus $3 shipping if purchased without the um grabbag). Additional tape is available for $5.99 per yard. A good pair of scissors is a must to cut through the rubber and industrial strength loop tape. KAI scissors are wonderful. They are actually scissors for trimming Bonsai trees. Stampers use them for cutting ums (unmounted rubber). They are very sharp and cut through rubber like it was butter. I sell the Kai scissors for $15.00 plus $1.00 shipping. Let me know if I can ever help you with anything! I accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and checks. I have two other hot laminators and I love them too. The cost of the supplies varies quite a bit for the hot and cold laminators--the Xyron supplies are more expensive per square inch, but I've paid that much for hot lamination pouches before I found inexpensive ones at Sam's Club, where we got l00 pouches in various sizes for about $10. I think the Xyron costs are about 40 cents for about a foot. I would use my Xyron much more often if I could get the refills for the same price as hot laminate. Certain things do not stick to the Xyron laminate--like hook and loop tape which I use a lot, LOL. Have gotten around this by using sticker paper, and then my hook and loop. I've been having a ball running wallpaper through the Xyron and applying adhesive, and then cutting the shapes out on my Accu-cut. I have tons of double sided adhesive sheets, but seldom use them because the Xyron is so much easier and applies the adhesive so evenly. It is a simple machine, and I suspect the price may eventually come down after the costs of production are recouped and more and more places carry them and compete on prices. I dont' dare sell them to anyone, because I don't want people to come back and say they got it for the wholesale price through Arvey's or at a convention. I wonder what the price of their cartridges are--maybe they are selling the machines at wholesale and making their profit on the cartridges. BTW, they do just apply pressure, but they have two rolls that are securely held in place and snap into the machine, one on top and one on the bottom--you feed your paper and stuff through the middle, sort of like grandma's wringer washer but reproducing grandma's wringer washer to fit the rolls would probably cost even more than the Xyron's--although I've wished I had one as a giant paper making vat--think how great it would be to wring out the excess water. Wonder if Gary will let me have one. Hope this answers some questions. I LOSE money on postage... and when you = keep losing money, you have to find ways to fix that loss or you go out of business! =20 I fret over this constantly! I try to charge reasonable shipping = costs... but my system is obviously not working if I'm losing money! As customers, would you rather: ~~Have your postage rates increased?=20 ~~ Have the cost of your merchandise increased (there is a REASON for a wholesale/retail mark-up on products... it covers costs - 10-30% off merchandise doesn't cut into profits, it makes breaking even REALLY = hard!)=20 ~~ Or would you rather wait for your orders to ship complete?=20 Or would you wish I would just shut up! (kidding)... This is obviously a sensitive subject for me and might be more than you = wish to know!!! If you've hung with me this long... thanks for listening! =20 Being a good vendor is a constant struggle for me... and customer input = is vital! Thanks again.... I'm going to go ship now!! I *think* I found that my padded envy's were less expensive to England than GPE so I didn't check it out fully for other countries. I picked up some global priority envy's at the po today - they have a small size (perfect for quite a few unmounteds) that is only $4.95 to Australia. The larger size (which is needed for catalogs) is $8.95 & for Germany (the other place I'm shipping right now) tis $6.95. Unfortunately, the catalog would be mush in the smaller envy. My problem awhile back was I had no idea Australia would be so much more expensive to ship to than England (which I've done quite a bit). constantly learning, maggie This message was from Aglaia1 - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum. Although I really think it's that we're such packrats and not a 'for real' collection. Still have each computer we've owned, starting with the Commodore VIC 20! And we have several 'work in progress' computers. When people upgrade they give us the old stuff 'cause you really can't get any money for them. Then my husband combines several machines to make a decent one and we donate them to non-profit organizations. So my home tends to look like a computer warehouse most of the time! =) - -- ~ lupie ~ (elizabeth herman) ~~~Philippians 4:13~~~ http://www.flash.net/~eherman Texas residents add 7.25% sales tax Accepting checks and money orders at this time. I completed chemo treatment #2 10 days ago and have finally surfaced. Two more treatments to go and I won't be sad to go there anymore. I also started reconstruction last week, so I'm still hanging in there. My hair fell out and my 'auburn' wig is worn when I go out. It's tuff to loose your hair in a matter of 3 days.
