Marsha & I got together with Sara (Stamped Expressions) at her house this afternoon. Marsha brought Evo's acrylic plates for storing UMs to show us-- cool idea. She also showed us how to make mosaic cards--real cool idea. She also brought Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs to share--really really cool idea! I brought homemade chocolate chip cookies, so we all had a fine sugar -high going. Sara brought her whole house :-) One of the many many perks of knowing Sara is that you get to poke through all of her personal supplies, AND you can see first hand what she has for sale. (those Class A-Peel Stickers are awesome.) Anyway, Sara has a lot of Paper Collage grabbags--I think she calls them Precious Papers--all kinds of textured, swirled, exotic, beautiful pieces of paper. She also had this one ziploc bag of pieces that were left over when she put together personalized bags for her customers. Well, I started poking through this bag, pulling out several pieces that I really liked & asked her how much $. Seems like I had about 3 bags-worth, so I started removing pieces from my pile. Told her to tell me when I got down to one bag, which she did. Then I started teasing her & pulled one of the "discarded" pieces back into my pile. And then a second one--this is where she should have thrown me out of her house! I don't think I risked a 3rd one, but I don't remember. That may have been where she whacked me on the head with a paper punch (good shot, Sara! :-D Anyway, the point is, Sara was very generous. I'm still not used to the prices of exotic papers (I'm cheap & they're not!) & she was just super. I'm almost afraid to touch some of the papers she has--they are so gorgeous. Some of the pieces I put into my own grabbag had instantly brought images for cards to mind--that's pretty powerful stuff! Flossie aka barb b 3/29 Thank you for having me over again, Sara. I'll try to play nice next time, but you know how difficult that is for me. If I can't give you a hard time, then what's the point? We danced in 22 heats and got 10 first place medals and lots of ribbons. I don't know if any sport could be more fun that Ballroom Dancing with Marlene, it is so much fun to hold her in my arms and go sailing around the floor. Was a lot of fun, there were about 70-80 couples entered in over 180 events. Started at 9 yesterday morning and ended at midnight last night. I don't have a single picture, left all the cameras and video at home, with doing 22 different events we didn't figure we would have time for taking pictures. It was wonderful, the dancing with Marlene, is getting so nice, and it is so much fun to have people come up to you and say they like your dancing. Of course there are always people that are trying to make it bad. All of the judges were local professionals, and one of the judging couples have been asking Marlene and I do take lessons from them, and we keep saying we are happy with who we are taking from. Anyway, every heat that they were part of the judging panel they would place us last, in one heat they each placed us 8th out of 8, and the other lady that was the third judge of the panel at that time placed us 4th. 4th or 5th would have been the right place for the people we were again at that point. Marlene's response to this was, well next year we just have to be so good that everyone will understand what they are doing, there was talk as it was because of us and another couple that they did the same thing to. I want a line of ballroom dancing stamps, but I can't get them to look right, and everyone that I've tried to buy the images from, don't know how to draw dancers. I will offer that class again...and as many times as I can as long as there is someone out there willing to take it. Just so you know... the classes I offer will run $7.50 per person, per class from now on. That's what I get to teach in Green Bay.... And I promise you will recieve more than $7.50 in instructions. Please understand, these on line classes DO take me quite a bit of time, and energy, to teach, even if it is only via on line instructions and scanned samples. It also takes a LOT of creativity to teach on line as well. I make myself available to my students any time they need me, and I do mean ANY time. I answer email promptly... and go the extra mile for anyone who needs it. I've had many emails from people regarding my Stampscapes On Line Classes... the most common question/concern I've gotten is, so many of you ask me.."Does Kevin Nakagawa know you are doing this?" For the record..yes he does. I'm also game to teach other things via on line classes. When my kids first got their drivers license they each had 3 accidents within the first year all of which they were not at fault, and being my son was the youngest when he had his third one, he told the police officer that Dad was never going to beleive him that is was not his fault. So the officer called me at work and told me that he had seen the accident the other driver had been arrested and was being taken to detox (thought he was on drugs), and that the officer was impressed at the way my son had reacted and avoided a much more serious problem at such a busy intersection. I should have kept seperate the extras I received and the ones I swaped my cards for but I didn't so here are the cards I have. Diana - A beautiful rose embossed on white mulberry paper. This is layered on pink cardstock, layered on copper glossy cardstock, layered on white. A beautiful card. Cheryl S. - Tan speckled cardstock with the right edge slightly trimmed with decoratrive scissors. Green speckled paper has been cut in a triangle with the right side trimmed with the same scissors. It has been placed so the the triangle starts at the top left corner and goes down to the bottom of the card about 2/3 of the way across. Then she has embossed in gold on red cardstock, chili peppers. Cut them out and mounted them with foam tape on the center of the card. The inside of the card has a small strip of the green speckled paper running down the edge so it can be seen when the card is closed. What a clever card. Jennifer Hanes - She has taken strips os blue and white checked paper and arranged tham so that there are four squares on the white cardstock. In 3 of the squares is an apple embossed in black. Each apple is different. The apples have been colored in. In the remaining square she has stamped "Just For You". My neighbor that is a teacher and fellow stamper thought this was a great card for a teacher. Gloria - She has stamped the oval frame with flowers in burgandy on cardstock. The edges have been scalloped. This must have been done with a template as I have never seen scissors with this big of scallops. She has colored in the flowers and cut out the center of the oval. She has then layered this on burgandy cardstock and cut out the center a little bigger than the first oval. Happy birthday has been stamped in burgandy on cardstock that has been layered on the bugandy inside the card. A pretty burgandy raffia bow has been mounted on the front top left corner. I will probably use this idea for upcoming birthdays. Stephanie M- She has done a very beautiful card in shades of purple. Very light speckled lavender cardstock has been layered ith a piece of light purple cardstock. Another piece of the light lavender speckled cardstock has been layered over this. Toward the top left corner is a small piece of lavender mulberry paper . Layered on top are the word "Thank You" embossed in gold on the speckled paper. A small purple ribbon is in the same corner. On the oppposite corner, she has cut a piece of the light purple cardstock with deckle scissors kind of in a kidney bean shape. This is layered with the speckled cardstock cut the same way. This cardstock has a set of flowers embossed in gold. The flowers have a yellow center with lavender and purple petals and green leaves. Terri Bradruy- She has stamped the flower border stamp in purple along the left side of the card. She has then randomly stamped the same flower in purple. The words "Congratulations" are also stamped. The center of the flowers have glitter in them. Cindy Campbell- She hasembossed in a very pretty green the same border stamp as Terri but the size smaller 4 times horizontaly. She has then layered a 2" piece of beautiful corrigated gold cardboard(?) diagonally in the center. On top cut out and embossed in pink on vellum paper are a trio of beautifully colored flowers. To top it of she has placed a elegant lg. white organdy ribbon. The organdy has gold flecks and the sides have a gold edge with wire in it. Michele - A very interesting background stamped in burgandy. I'm not sure how she did it but it looks like little scratch marks. Then the lg. posie stamp( I think) randomly stamped 4 times in burgandy. She has the stamped "just for you" a few times also. A very fun card! Thanks to all who played. You are all very talented. She recently came home for Spring Break, leaving Boston on a 6 am flight, and arriving in Dallas about 10 am. A friend picked her up, and they came to my office for lunch, which was great fun! And then she and her friend went home. She called me, and said, "Mom, did you know there's no electricity in the house?" Well, no, I didn't. After a quick call to the electric company, it seems that we completely forgot to pay the bill, and they had graciously shut it off that morning. So, we hurriedly paid it (before 2 pm), and they said they'd have it on by midnight. Oh, well, an inconvenience, but I'd really been a ding-bat about this, and so had my DH, so I suppose I deserved an inconvenience. When Heather and her friend picked me up after work, they took me to dinner for my birthday (their treat), and then took me home . . . and there was still no electricity. :( We went into the house, and there were candles everywhere, and a roaring fire in the fireplace . . . and all of a sudden, I heard "Surprise!" Heather had arranged a surprise 50th birthday party for me for the night she arrived! There were about 20 people there, all in "coctail" dress (I was in jeans . . . it was, after all, jeans day at work!). And we had an absolutely awesome party! She'd gone to her friends house to make appetizers, and had a fondue pot for the great chocolate fondue she made, and an ice chest for chilling the drinks . . . It was delightful! Yes, indeed, I felt terribly silly for not having paid the electric bill . . . but the joy, the laughter, and the memories she created that night will live in our family history for all of her life, long after I'm gone! She's an awesome young woman, and I'm so proud that she's my daughter! Dear caring Diana, I do know how you feel as a mom. I have two = married=20 DD's and grandkids. My older daughter pierced her bellybutton last = year. I hope this helps you, = if even=20 in just some small way, Diana.
