Hi guys...I'm so excited, I had to share this: I'm the new proud owner of my very own Ott Light! We don't have them here in Canada (at least not in Montreal) so I asked my parents, who were spending time in Florida, to check out the Office Depot just to see if they were there..it wasn't a request or anything...I just kind of thought that if I'm going to be in Fla. anytime soon, I'd know there were Otts there and I could pick one up, right? (yeah, right sure, like my parents wouldn't have gotten it for me, huh? ) Well, my folks got back this week, came for dinner last night and took out of their magic "gift" bag (usually meant for the kids)...an Ott light! I almost didn't get one. Why? Because the whole time they were at the store, they were looking for a "Bott" light! Finally, my mother said to my father, "I can't find it." My father said, "the closest thing here is an Ott light." My mom said, "THAT'S IT!" and they "bott" it for me . Well, even my father admits that it's some wonderful invention. He was checking out the demo in the store, and was very impressed. I, of course, immediately took out some cards I'd been working on, and switched from my halogen over the kitchen table to the Ott. No contest! Ott wins hands down! And what a clever design, too! So now my cards will have that special something, because they will be created under the glow of an Ott! I'm just so excited!!! We left on Friday traveling in my newly purchased 93 Voyager Russet. The drive was very interesting as the weather kept changing: hail, rain, sun, overcast, more rain, downpour... We checked into our hotel and then took the light rail downtown to the Art Museum which had a great exhibit, Splendors of Ancient Egypt. We enjoyed the exhibit once we figured out how to follow the narration tapes. Jutta insists on being a free spirit+ACE- On the way back to the hotel we found this great store called Art Media where Jutta and I both found some paper we HAD to have. We had a great dinner w/ some fellow listees at Elmers. Yum. Went back to the hotel and had a couple of drinks and went up to our rooms. We wanted to watch some good cable but none was available so we ate Reeses minis and planned Saturday. Saturday we started with room service and then went to this wonderful stamp store near our hotel. The store featured a demo area where a very experienced stamper sits and demos whatever you want to see. We asked to see the mini books. She did a great job. After spending some money and an hour at this store we decided to head to the convention. We got to the convention around 12:10 after walking half a mile from the car. There were several conventions going on including a gun show, pet fair and bike and motorcycle show, needless to say it was quite busy. We were a little tired once we got to the Convention but smelling the rubber revised us and off we went. We met some great vendors and great listees, and had a GREAT time. On the front is a very nice arched window, complete with clear plastic in the panes, and the background is red bricks.... realistic and a great idea! Inside is a stamped, embossed and perfectly colored fortune teller. Leilani says both images are from Eas Coast Art Stamps. She put a lot of work into this card, too. Debbie Popish used a simple top fold card of a greyish stock with fibers in it over which she layered another piece of stock in a coral-pink. Both have the same rectangular opening, through which a old stamp of tulips can be seen. A green ribbon bow on the corner of the opening completes the card. Great card Debbie! Donna Jo Troup sent a very elegant Magenta stamp of two cats in an ornate window all done in white pearl embossing on a white card! Very pretty! Jhone sent a stained glass window on vellum, colored beautifully then layered on white then black cs. Truly elegant card! Thanks again Gloria, I always enjoy your swaps! What a cool idea! I've got lots of online friends I'd love to pull this prank on. How would I find the website? Thanks, Diane - -----------Original Message------------ OK, someone sent me an April Fools' Day email, giving me a link to some web site with information about me on it...of course, I, being eternally gullible (also curious as heck) had to go there immediately. There, lo and behold, is a news story tying ME to Monica Lewinsky, about our email correspondence, about out discussions about her panties... I'm reading, going WHAT THE HECK?????? Looking and looking, going I can't believe this... Well, DUH...I wasn't even THINKING about April Fools' Day (even though it IS my daughter's birthday...after having one baby two days late, the next two ON their due dates, she decided to get the last laugh on me by arriving three WEEKS early, on 4/1) OK, so, which one of you is responsible for this???? I'm stamping (get it? LOL!) my foot and deMANding to know... Very funny, I enjoyed this very much! Subject: RS: TAN: Laura's cycling update For anyone who is interested in how we are doing...keep reading...if you don't care, hit delete now...you've been warned. Wow. We rode a 60 mile ride today down Pacific Coast Highway from Long Beach to Newport Beach...inland and up over a lot of really long hills and back into ferocious offshore winds...not little breezes...honest to goodness winds! We finished in about 5 hours...including rests off the bike, 4 hours of actual riding...I think we would have done a lot better if we hadn't had 15 mph headwinds going home. I love riding with my husband...he is so encouraging, lets me slack off and doesn't make me feel guilty and gives me tons of praise (although he could lose that surprised tone!) when I put out effort where its not expected...like uphill. I'm starting to like going up hill. As we were descending we passed to motorcycle police officers...they lowered the radar gun and yelled 38! Wow, we weren't even going fast yet...we saw 45 or so, but thanks to their check with the radar gun, we know our cyclometers are right on! We got back to the car and laid our tired exhausted bodies down in the parking lot...concrete has never felt so good. An Ensure, 1/2 a chocolate bar (See's toffee), some pasta & garlic bread and 1 hr in the hot tub later...I'm feeling pretty good. I've lost 12 pounds! And its staying off. I'm so excited. We are already climbing better, and I can only fantasize about how well we will climb when we've lost a combined 150 pounds off the bike. So, we were going to do our first century next weekend, but after today realized we'd be slowing down everyone (and we don't want to miss the train home) so we are going to drive the SAG truck down and get to ride the train home with everyone...all the fun...none of the work...my idea of a good weekend. We'll make up for it with another go at 60 miles on Sunday. Its hard to set realistic goals when we just want to be ready to do it NOW! My body is pretty good at crying uncle though. We are having a blast and really learning a lot about ourselves and each other...when to encourage, when to praise...when to just keep quiet LOL...wouldn't trade this time with DH for the world. Thanks for the continued encouragement from my list family. It really means a lot to me. But all this riding is really cutting into my stamping time...I get Wednesday nights & Friday nights off to stamp and rest. Good thing I can read list mail at work to keep up! Laura A. a.k.a. I hosted one several years ago, (well, I actually hosted lots LOL!) but one in particular, by the same name stands out in my memory and it was *FABULOUS*! My all time favorite swap! Can you picture... A burgundy card from fancy deeply textured cardstock, layered with burgundy feathers, and irridiscent deep mauve butterflies? How about a black glossy card stock card, with black irridiscent EP bird, black fabric, gourmet black textured papers and raffia? Maybe Green's your thing? Well, picture a spinner card with a georgous green dragonfly over a shades of green stamped leaves background. For blue, picture a serene antique sailing ship, with corrugated layers and ribbon. Shades of white are always beautiful when you consider white marbled paper, hand cast shells and antique ribbons.... Recognize these cards? Well these are some of my all time favorite swap cards from the first edition of the Monochromatic Theme Swap. :) If there's enough interest I'd like to hostess round II of the Monochromatic Theme swap. Only rule, is that anything you use on your card, must fulfill a monochromatic theme... papers, ink, layering items, EP, embellishments etc.... SWAP: Monochromatic Theme Swap II HOST: The Cottage Stamper (aka Juliet Page) julepage@access.digex.net ITEMS: 5 FOR 5 (multiple sets up to the max # players accepted) DETAILS: Cards or postcards fulfilling a monochromatic theme. All stamping, EP, papers, ink, layering and embellishment items of the same color theme. MAILING INFO: SAML + EQUIVALENT POSTAGE POSTMARK: May 21, 1998 *Surprise* for early swappers! And just a bit about how I tend to my hostessing duties: When I host a swap, I'm always a player, so extra cards aren't necessarry. :) I also return a surprise for *EARLY* swappers. Early is defined as cards in my mailbox *before* the postmark date... which BTW, is the last day of classes this semester. :) I can't think of a more perfect ending for the school year. :) I generally give cards 1 week after the postmark date to arrive, then I do the swapping and return them in the mail the following Monday. I do recycle envelopes, so only the label is necessarry. I send e-mail acknowledgements when cards arrive at my home, and I'll post once or twice a week an updated swap notie, with receipt status. I tend to keep people informed... anally so. Please include at minimum your e-mail address on the backs of your cards. If you'd like to include stamp credits too that would also be most welcome. Please email me to sign up and I'll send you my new snail address. Hopefully there will be enough interest to make this official. I'll keep you all informed. :) This message was from Juliet Page - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum.
