"It's blank; it won't accept anything when I type." "Are you still in WordPerfect, or did you get out?" "How do I tell?" "Can you see the C:\prompt on the screen?" "What's a sea-prompt?" "Never mind. Can you move the cursor around on the screen?" "There isn't any cursor: I told you, it won't accept anything I type." "Does your monitor have a power indicator?" "What's a monitor?" "It's the thing with the screen on it that looks like a TV. Does it have a little light that tells you when it's on?" "I don't know." "Well, then look on the back of the monitor and find where the power cord goes into it. Can you see that?" "Yes, I think so." "Great! Follow the cord to the plug, and tell me if it's plugged into the wall." "Yes, it is." "When you were behind the monitor, did you notice that there were two cables plugged into the back of it, not just one?" "No." "Well, there are. I need you to look back there again and find the other cable." "Okay, here it is." "Follow it for me, and tell me if it's plugged securely into the back of your computer." "I can't reach." "Uh huh. Well, can you see if it is?" "No." "Even if you maybe put your knee on something and lean way over?" "Oh, it's not because I don't have the right angle-it's because it's dark." "Dark?" "Yes-the office light is off, and the only light I have is coming in from the window." "Well, turn on the office light then." "I can't." "No? "Why not?" "Because there's a power outage." "A power outage? Aha! Okay, we've got it licked now. Do you still have the boxes and manuals and packing stuff your computer came in?" "Well, yes, I keep them in the closet." "Good! Go get them, and unplug your system and pack it up just like it was when you got it. Then take it back to the store you bought it from." "Really? Is it that bad?" "Yes, I'm afraid it is." All stamp stores aren't like the one Lissa visited ... but it does seem like most of 'em are. :::sigh::: The place whose staff *will* answer questions *is* where I go to pick up RSM and VSN ... although it would be less expensive to subscribe. I buy what I can get there relatively economically because I appreciate 'em. I'll even buy mounted there, knowing that I'll be un-mounting the first time I use it ... if it's only one stamp from a given company, who'd want to pay shipping and wait? When you find a store where information is shared, cherish it and support it as much as you can (consistent with sane economic practice). I don't think that Lissa should feel indignant about crass commercialism. It will sap her strength. This was my very first swap and thanks to Deborah for hosting it! I know I had a wonderful time. Here are following things I received: 1. Made by: unknown. On the front of a cover that holds Post-It notes are all the tools that a stamper needs; heat gun, markers, stamps, and ink. The cover is held in place by velcro. It is so adorable that I'm afraid I won't dare use it. Great idea! 2. Made by: Shelly. On light green paper are stamped tulips and clouds look like they have liquid applique, but are puffed up, not quite sure. All around are flying cute, tiny butteflies, and sitting amongst the tulips are 2 cats that were layered onto the card. Inside are nice fat red ladybugs and hello spring is stamped in the 4 corners. What a nice way to start out a new season. Lovely card. 3. Made by: Kathy Anderson. On the front is a perplexed yellow duck with two storm clouds pouring rain down on his head and on top of him it says: "Feeling under the weather?" When you open up the card it says get well soon. Love the background technique. How did you do that? Looks like you took a feather and swept it across the card with gray ink. Cool looking. How appropriate for a stormy look. 4. Made by: Christine Boldavici. On a rainbow colored background of purples, pinks, blues and greens is layered under pink mulberry paper a lighter pink carnation. Very delicate. Inside it says: "Thinking of You." On the back of the card she has put on a gold basket charm containing more flowers. And I can't forget a matching envy to go with it. Very beautiful. 5. Made by: Unknow. A Greetings from Cleveland, Ohio, pin. Have never seen one before, and it is great. The words are in red and the large building is in blue. Quite striking. 6. Made by: Becky Thompson. A small gift bag that is yellow and green and she used a rollagraph on it, and then at the top two holes are punched out and a light yellow ribbon is tied to hold the bag shut. So pretty. Well, that's it! Enjoyed receiving everything. It has given me new ideas. Thanks again, Deborah. OK...Sorry in advance if this is a lame question - but what is a minibook?? (are you guys getting tired of my "what is it" subject lines?? sorry!) SOUNDS neat, but sometimes what I envision is SO way off from the "real deal," it's scary! Take the Pergamano thing, for instance - I was SO wrong!! Anyway, I would appreciate any light on the subject! Thanks!! Liza ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Liza Villafuerte a.k.a. Here is the announcement of the theme for this swap. "It's a Small World" Just a reminder - you CANNOT buy any new stamps for this swap. The idea is that you create your cards using the stamps that you already have. If you have any questions email me but the interpretation is yours. Violetnut Name of Swap: Come As You Are - CAYA Hosted by: Violetnut Item Info: Cards 6 for 6 Postmark Date: 1 May (Note date change from Proposal) Status: CLOSED to new sign ups Mailing Info: SAML and equal postage, but no less than .78 please. No metered strips please. I will recycle envelopes. International stampers contact me for arrangements. Theme Details: This swap is a little different. You won't know the theme until 31 March. Then I'll announce theme and you have 4 weeks to send in your cards based on the theme. AND after the theme is announced you can't buy any stamps for use on the swap cards. You have to use something you already have. For example, one of the themes last year was "Curses! Foiled Again!". You didn't know that when you signed up but it was announced later and you had a month to get them in. At the time the theme is announced, the swap is closed. Last time one card was sent round robin. I am not going to do that this time. The consensus of the people who responded to this question was that we not bother to do that this time. And we already have a volunteer to host another one after this one is done.
