Elaine continued:> > I suggest that compilers keep compiling, but if you ever plan to post it > to a public forum, make sure that the original author approves. My response: The best thing to do, as we all learned in high school doing those research papers, is to KEEP the name of the author with his/her tips and techniques when you save them or compile them or whatever. What's two more words in your files? And current copyright laws give a person the "right" to their own writing (and artwork) whether or not it is officially registered or published. That's why I ping on this group all the time to put the credits on the back of the cards you make. And your name there makes you the owner of that artwork. Otherwise that old snot, Anonymous, will get the credit some day (and I'll get the money) when I sell your artwork for $100,000. :-) Did you know, in fact, that what you write in an email message has some copyright protection? Even re-sending another writer's words with your own responding post is an abuse of that person's rights. If someone resends one of Maggie's tips-to-the-RS-list verbatim to another public forum (list, magazine, whatever) without giving Maggie credit, it is a copyright violation. In fact, it may be a copyright violation to re-send those tips at all without her permission...even if you give her credit. That's why I try to send only the snippets back that have to do with my return remarks: there is some precedent for the legality of that in the laws that allow critics to quote from the original. So those of you with short memories who want your entire post returned so you can remember what you said might want to begin saving your own posts for a week or two until you are certain everyone has responded who is going to do so. People don't need licenses to have kids, so why should the police get in on this! Stupid people have children all the time! I like the idea of talking to moms and dads before calling in the police. They may not see what they are doing as wrong and when it is pointed out, then they are ok. More people love and care for their kids than don't, and I think this whole social services thing is too much. My niece fell and cut her head with my sister right there to catch her! - - and my sister was scared that she would get taken away! Kids fall and get hurt! That is not a sign of neglect - but of normal development! Keep your government hands away from my family please! Personally I would never leave my children (if I was blessed to have any) in a car for any amount of time, or leave them alone when they are less than 10 for any time. However, I wouldn't call the police. ---------- From: Juliet Page To: erinpuff@juno.com Cc: rubberstampers@firewall.GEnie.NET Subject: Re: TAN: Child Safety Date: Monday, February 10, 1997 11:03AM Erin , That was ABSOLUTELY the RIGHT THING to do! I've never seen children alone in a parking lot in the car, but if I ever do, you can be sure I will call 911 too! (And wait around to keep an eye on them!) I must admit I've been *tempted* (for about 2 seconds ;) to leave my 2 year old, (especially in the snow/rain etc...) but then I think about how much I love her! I am responsible for her safety and would just die if anything ever happened! I never have and never will leave my little Alexanna alone! It's not worth the risk to her or any child for that matter, and you're right, just those few seconds can change life forever! On a similar sickening related incident, last summer I saw two people riding a motorcycle both with helmets, and to the front of the woman (Mother??), in between her and the Guy (in front) riding in one of those strap on child carriers was a BABY! I called 911 from my cell phone immediately! Now that's seriously dangerous behavior! They turned off the road so I never found out what if anything police-wise happened.
