My son's school is having an auction to raise money, and through a conversation with someone trying to get things to auction off, I mentioned my art. She asked if I could put together a package of stuff and they could auction it or raffle it. I was MORE than thrilled, because I will also be stamping my name on the backs of the things and taking out a business-card ad in the program book! I will make a package of about 20 assorted cards, assorted sizes, plus 2 or 3 laminated bookmarks, as well as 2 or 3 laminated magnets. What, in your opinion, would be a good value to attach to it (as I will be issued a tax receipt)? Or how should I gauge what to say is the value? How do YOU evaluate the monetary value of the stamped items you sell? And YES, I will be using ONLY angel companies! Thanks in advance, everyone! Hugs, Lissa PS: Springtime is a time for renewal, and awakenings, and ephiphanies, and in posting this to the list, I am once again struck by the helpfulness and kindness and willingness to advise which is so often demonstrated by my list family. Let's keep up the spirit of generosity...I have not caught up on days' worth of mail, and in reading/deleting over 1500 messages, I am saddened by some of the negative tones the subjects have taken on...could we be more aware of what's GOOD about everyone and concentrate on that? If people wanted their stuff...they shouldn't throw it out!!! How can you be stealing if the junk is just going to the landfill? I for one see dumpster diving as doing a service to the planet! And if that involves getting a few extra rubber dies, so be it! If the companies don't want customers to do this, they should not throw the stuff out in the first place and find a way to sell their scraps. I've had many a meal and a whole lot of other goodies out of people's, and yes that includes stores, dumpsters! Gross you say? Well, perhaps, but I figure if it is still good, someone ought to use it! I have a friend who dumpster dives for a living, and she had an old friend over to her house for dinner one day. She let it slip that she got some of the food on one of her "excursions". He said "Well this is the first time I've eaten someone's trash!" She just smiled at him knowingly and said "No, it's not!" She gets ALL of her produce out of dumpsters!!! ALL of it! She's amazing! And no, she's not a yucky person, actually a very prim and proper British lady in her late fifties. Or if you don't believe that, do you still like gardens and/or gardening--in spring, summer, autumn and winter? Do you regard the garden as a place for reflection, meditation and inspiration (and weeding and other cultivation, too)? If you answered yes to any of those questions (or even if you did not), I invite you to join me in a perpetual, one-to-one exchange of mail art with a gardening theme. Mail art means cards, magnets, pins, books, boxes, posters, weathergrams, scrolls, etc: whatever art YOU are inspired to create. Gardening refers to formal, informal, container, backyard, greenhouse or any other place where plants are grown. Here's how it would work: all those interested in participating will send me their snail addresses. I will compile a list and send it back to everyone who has signed up. Participants may choose anyone on the list -- anytime -- and send them some mail-art with a gardening theme. The only obligation is to send something back to everyone who sends something to you--and do it within a week. When the recipient sends you the return art, you can choose whether or not to send to them again immediately. (Since this is meant to be perpetual, you would be sending to them again eventually anyway.) If at anytime you decide you want to drop out of the exchange, you just let me know. I will remove your name and send a new GAPE list to all participants. Any art you receive after that can be marked "return to sender" without opening and will cost you nothing to return. In other words, you can send mail-art to as few or as many people on the list as you wish...and you can send it whenever you wish. Your only commitments are: when you receive a GAPE card from someone else, you will send them one within a week; and you will mark the outside of each mailing clearly with the word GAPE. Anyone who is interested in participating, send your snail address to me. We will begin as soon as I have ten names, adding other participants to the list as they sign up... Any questions? We're not and we don't intend to go out of business. I'd really appreciate your squelching that rumor wherever you hear it. There's hardly a day goes by we don't hear from a store or a customer that they thought we were out of business... we're alive and struggling! I renamed the "Last Call" Sale to the "Bargain Basement" as I thought that might be giving the idea we're going out of business. The Bargain Basement still has wonderful buys like Tombow Dual Brush Markers for $1.29 and Marvy Brush Markers for 96 cents... just about the lowest prices you'll find anywhere as we continue to reduce our inventory... as a result of the Queen Mary disaster, we've been forced to stop trying to be all things to all people and have drastically cut the variety of companies we distribute for. We are now concentrating on rubber stamps and select items such as our unique embossing powders, confetti, etc. These items may be found on our Web Page under "Stamping Supplies" and will continue to be offered (except for some of the confettis which we can no longer get in bulk due to the sale of the company we were buying from). When we put out the latest Upgrades to our Rubber Lines, we were swamped and it took us a while to realize we were getting further and further behind each day. A month ago, I hired an extra person to help with indexing and rubber pressing and we are now moving forward and slowly catching up each day instead of falling further behind but we're still not at an acceptable turnaround time for rubber stamps... we will be though. This week, I've hired someone to cover the store Monday-Saturday Noon-4pm which will help with getting out rubber as the people working in the factory part had to cover the store as well when customers came in. This also means we are now providing phone service at 702-836-9118 Monday-Saturday noon to four pm... in fact, if I can figure out how to change the voice mail, we will start taking messages at other times as well but for now, if you do want to call in an order or ask a question, please do it noon - 4 pm Pacific time. Of course, you can continue to order from our Web Page using the online form provided or fax us orders. We still have about a dozen orders going back as far as January waiting for payment (from when we didn't request payment in advance) and if we don't receive payment on those orders by tomorrow, they're going back into stock. I just had to put an order for over $400 back into stock that had been ordered and never paid for so there are some items I need to add back into the Bargain Basement... we could have sold these a zillion times but had them tied up in this order... and there will undoubtedly be other things going in from the orders we're still holding. I do thank everyone for your patience as we get the train back on the tracks... we've stayed on top of the Bargain Basement orders as they don't require custom manufacturing like our rubber stamps do and we continue to provide a turnaround of 24-48 hours on those orders so please order away! As long as the orders keep up, then I'll keep the extra staff and we'll get the rubber situation under control as well... our goal is to provide one-week turnaround time on rubber but we're being realistic and shooting for two-week turnaround right now. It's possible I'll need to buy another Vulcanizer before we can get the turnaround time to where we want it to be but that will take $$$... a vicious circle! I hope you were able to visit this past weekend when the salute to Tammy Wynette was on our Web Page. Please email me if you are interested. NAME: Thank You swap TYPE: 5/5 cards (extra for host not required but appreciated!) DUE DATE: postmarked by June 1 POSTAGE: since I am from Canada, please include an American dollar and I will do the postage and the labels and the envelopes (this way I get American money for when I join swaps and by paying for the labels and envies I shouldn't have to send back change).
