Hey, good luck to your son. When will you be here? (Maybe we can get together.) The following is from a file that I keep handy. This is my write-up of the stores in Colorado Springs (updated 2/11/96) If you do cute, you will be happy. If you do mainstream, you will be happy. If you do weird, you will do mail order, although you may find a few things! The newest, the Flying Stampeze, is a small stamp/sticker store in Chapel Hills mall. Probably reflecting the mall location, I find their prices a bit higher for some items than the other two stores. I keep checking them out because they have a few companies that the others don't tend to carry. Plus, there is the rest of the mall (including theater) to keep non-stampers entertained for a while. Creative Impressions is in Old Colorado City. Very crowded store, lots of stamps, foam sets: Hero Arts, PSX, RubberStampede, Ala Art, Stampscapes, A Stamp in the Hand, many others, good selection of word sayings, paper by the ounce, good card stock selection, punches, embossing. Basically a very well stocked store, and close to where I work, so they get a lot of my business. Simple Pleasures is at Dublin and Union. They just moved to a larger store two doors down, which will give them more class space and breathing room. Pretty much the same selection of stock, maybe a little bit more toward "cute". (However she also has some stamps with an attitude, as she calls it.) Stamps by Judith, otherwise both stores carry about the same lines, but frequently different items within the lines. Cathy (prop) stocks mounting supplies, which is nice, and a full range of papermaking kits. She gets a lot of my business because she had instituted a frequent buyer rebate card program, and those little punches are accumulating rapidly. SP has a full class schedule, CI does a few, but doesn't have in store class room space. Staff at all stores are friendly and knowledgeable, and despite having so many stores in a mid-sized city, no overt rivalry or bad-mouthing. Any, unless your tastes are strictly for "weird" you will be very happy here. And even the weird stamper will find lots of supplies. Ask the owner to post a sign that you make to ask interested stampers to call you. Or just set up a meeting on a certain day, time and place and put up a sign. I would probably not have the meeting at your house - don't know who would come. Check with the library close to you and see if you could use one of their meeting rooms, then set up the first meeting. You may be surprised at the number who will attend. Also, you might put a notice in your local community newspaper about the meeting, time, etc. Locally we have a paper that will repeat the notice every month just before our meeting. They list two of our names for people to call for more information. We started very slowly - about 16 people came to our first meeting and today we have 50 paid members. About 30 - 35 attend each meeting. In between I have about 12 people come to my house to stamp. I wish I had more time to have more come. If you would like more information about how we started let me know and I'll send out information privately.
