I had a SS who send me all these great cards. By accident I peeled the corner of a "stamped by" label on the back of the card to find out that the card was made by someone else. This person was using cards she had received in swaps as her own. Since then when I send a card, whether it is for a RAK or a swap" I make it as hard to recycle as possible. I make sure my signature and swap information is large and not easily removed. All my RAKS include a handwritten message to the person I send to. I was just in a GNC store today and was talking with the woman about St. John's Wort. One thing she told me which I hadn't heard before is: Be sure you do *not* take any herb **at the same time** as a Rx drug. Try to take them at least one hour apart. Otherwise, they both will be less effective. And regarding SJW vs. Kava-Kava, this knowledgeable woman did tell me KK can make you drowsy, whereas SJW should not. So that, to me, would be a big reason to stay away from KK -- unless, of course, you *are* looking for one to make you drowsy. Could be a great one to take in the evening. And I also find the Valerian Root/Passionflower capsules I sometimes take at nite (I take 2 of them) really help me sleep well. Action Network), is a private internet discussion list dedicated to acts of advocacy on behalf of persons with CFIDS/M.E. and campaigns against bias, discrimination, and misinformation regarding CFIDS/M.E. One of our primary missions every year is to garner more attention for May 12th, which is International CFIDS/M.E. Awareness Day. There will be a rally in Washington D.C. and many ground support groups are holding events locally in support of this day. One campaign, currently in progress, is the placement of PSAs (Public Service Announcements) about CFIDS/M.E. with local radio and cable access stations. We invite you to join us in this project to get information about this devastating disease out to the general public. Below you will find 5 PSAs that we have put together that can be sent out to your local media and suggestions on how to place the PSAs. We are using these PSAs to focus on May12th, however, they can be used at any time. If you belong to a ground support group that is planning an event/activity, this is a very effective way to get free publicity. The WECAN Public Relations Committee has written five Public Service Announcements to offer for members (or others) to place on local radio stations and/or cable tv channels (the type that scroll public service announcements on a special local access channel). Here's what you can do with them-the Public Service Announcements (PSAs) follow after the instructions. WHO: Send to all local radio stations (AM and FM) and also college/high school stations if applicable. Addresses and phone numbers can be found in Sunday editions of entertainment section in local newspapers and also in yellow pages of phone books under the listing radio (stations). Also local cable television stations for their public access channels. Mark all Attention: Public Service Announcements. Also mark: Time Sensitive Material. If you are part of a ground support group and are planning an event for May 12th, add that information and a local contact for further information. A general tag for further information can also be added using: WECAN P.O. Box 805 Hockessin, DE. 19707-0805 302-831-1782 Or cfsmail, or CFIDS Association of America, which ever you like the best. Please remember using a local contact will be more appropriate as PSAs are a necessity as per the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) in regards to community service. If you are not part of a ground support group, just add: For further information contact...(adding your information of choice). HOW: Print out. When at all possible use colored paper and envelopes as they will catch the eye. If you call these stations they may also have fax machines,so if you have a fax modem, consider using that. WHEN: Immediately if not sooner!! And make a note to resend them on or around the 1st of May. Don't worry that someone else in your area may already be sending to these stations. The more copies they receive, the better the chances are that the PSAs will be used!! Here you go, five (count 'em 5!) PSAs, ready willing and able to be sent out. 1) Have you ever heard of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome? You know, CFS, Yuppie Flu, Tired all the time, lazy and crazy. That's what I used to think. Then my best buddy, John got it. I used to call John "dynamo man" because he could do everything without breaking a sweat. He worked hard and played hard and was always there to lend a hand. Then this flu hit him. He's not just tired, lazy, or crazy. He is very, very ill. CFS affects every organ in his body. John tries to do some of the things he used to, but he just can't. He's had to quit his job and is now going through reams of paperwork and denials just to have a small income from disability. He never knows if he'll even be up for watching a video with his buddies. John's whole life has been changed by this illness. CFS sounds mild, but it is very serious and devastating. May 12 is CFS/CFIDS Awareness Day. Learn more about it. 2) There are a few things that you should know about chronic fatigue syndrome. 1. There really is such an illness as chronic fatigue syndrome; 2. There is a chance that research will find good answers to relieve the pain and suffering it causes, with your help; and 3. until the medical research knows why people with CFS got sick, no one can promise you that YOU won't get sick. For more information on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and how you can help, call the CFIDS Association of America at 800-442-3437. 3) Thursday evening, 10 p.m., the television set blares the opening theme from the NBC hit drama series, "ER". The show taunts me.... a haunting reminder of a life now lost. I was once myself the head nurse on the night shift at a busy, inner-city trauma center, and I loved my job. Then from out of nowhere, I came down with an acute, upper respiratory viral illness that did not go away. I was finally diagnosed with "Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome". This illness is poorly understood. There is little more than symptom care available. Years later, I remain severely ill. It has been four years since I have been able to work as an emergency room nurse. I am no longer able to "get by" independently, physically or financially. At 50 years of age, I have had to move in with my parents permanently. CFIDS is a horrible, beastly thief, who snuck its way into my life and stole it away from me. I am tearfully reminded of all that I have lost every Thursday night at 10pm. 4) Have you ever stayed up for 48 hours straight and then tried to work a full day?? Were you alert? What if you felt that way all the time? Or it's an hour until quitting time and you wonder if you're going to make it. Throw in symptoms of the flu, pain and cognitive difficulties and you'll have a general idea of how people with Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction feel every day. CFIDS (or CFS) affects 4 to 10 out of every 100,000 people. Maybe you know someone who has this illness. May 12 is International CFIDS Awareness Day - learn more about it. 5) Imagine a disease where patients become so confused that they cannot remember what they just read; cannot remember how to construct a simple sentence; cannot remember how to tie a shoe. A disease where blood volume drops to 60-75 percent of normal; where even former athletes can no longer exercise more than three minutes on a treadmill; where many patients cannot walk and others are totally bedridden; where the patient feels like he has a bad case of influenza every day of the year; where many patients experience constant, severe arthritis-like pain in joints and muscles. Where a patient cannot even be diagnosed until she has been significantly disabled for six months; half of all patients take 2 to 5 years to return to 80 percent of their old activity levels; and 90 percent of the rest remain disabled ten years later or longer. What would you call this disease? The Centers for Disease Control calls it chronic fatigue syndrome. It affects 400,000 Americans, without regard to income, ethnicity, or geography; it is only slightly more common among women than men. May 12th is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Awareness Day. Learn more about this disease so we can start helping those who suffer from it. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: you can't always tell a disease by its name.
