It's really very easy. I'm a whiz at writing and organization...and I've got this huge beautiful scanner.. and a mega computer my hubby maintains for me!!! First of all.... let me explain that I teach Stampscapes using stipple brushes, not the tonal applicator which is the traditional method of coloring your scenes when you use Stampscapes. I could never get that silly thing to work for me, so I devised a technique using stipple brushes to color in my Stampscapes artwork. If you are not sure exactly WHAT stampscapes are...they are the most beautiful, realistic scenic stamps you will EVER find. You can see more for yourself if you hit the Stampscapes web site http://www.stampscapes.com If you go to the "gallery" and scan down thru the names, you will find my name "Tyra Smith" and you can see several pieces of my artwork there, all done using the technique I developed and teach with. In 101..we start out very simple. I give you DETAILED instructions on how to use stipple brushes. I have several little faq files also which have been created from questions previous students have asked. We also complete one "class project" which uses 1/4 sheet of glossy white cardstock. This entails using 3 Stampscapes images. I give you step-by-step instructions on how to create this project, and I also provide scanned samples which refer to the class instrucitons so you can "see" what I'm telling you to do. I make myself available to my students 24 hours a day until they are comfortable that they have learned everything they should from this class. It is easiest if you can recieve and view graphics files, such as jpg or jpeg files on your computer. It's just like looking at a picture that someone emails to you. If this becomes a problem, I will snail mail out color copies of the class samples, but this costs extra for the student. In 102... we go a bit larger with the artwork... 1/2 sheet of cardstock, and we combine stampscapes images, masking where necessary, and add one "non-stampscapes" image to the scene, we also begin using other types of brushes in combination with the stipple brushes for more detailed work. In 103... we make a scene on a full sheet of cardstock. This is a very aggressive piece, and it ends up being a wonderful piece of artwork to frame and hang on your wall. This class will combine everything you have learned in 101 and 102... and we put it all together!!! Each class will have detailed written instructions and scanned samples... I take your hand and walk you thru it... and I teach you... to create frameable artwork. THAT is the goal of these classes. I think every stamper needs to learn that you can do so much MORE than making cards. I want to challenge you...teach you... and give you many alternatives you never thought to explore. Every thing I teach in these classes can be applied to ANY type of artwork you wish to create...from business cards to large frameable artwork. You can use it with any stamp images, not just Stampscapes. Although Stampscapes are MY chosen stamp images to teach with. Interested? Make matching note cards to go with the envelopes. You can put together a bunch of them with a ribbon and give them as gifts to people. I usually try to keep either the same color family (i.e. ivory backgrounds) or the same wallpaper pattern but in different colors when I make sets as gifts. 2. Make note cards that only partially match the envelope. You can do the sets this way too. For example, if the scraps you have left after making an envelope isn't big enough to fill the entire front of a card, you can cut out pieces of the images (some flowers for instance), make a background on the front of the note card (brayered, splatter, etc.) and then glue on the pieces that you cut out. You can also use florals from other wallpapers, rubber stamp images, etc. 3. Use it as background for your card. Either by itself, or as a background for stamping. Just glue a piece of wallpaper to the front of the note card (cut it bigger than the front of the note card). When it dries, cut the wallpaper to the size of the front of the notecard. You can do collages on the front of note cards too. 4. Make gift bags and boxes. You can usually find patterns for these in various books and magazines. 5. Make paper wallets. These are useful to use everyday and also make nice gifts. Most Beginning origami books have patterns for these in them. 6. Make 3-D Cards. You can do this with florals and pictorial prints. Pick out a floral paper you like, cut out one bunch of the flowers, mount it on a card, then pick out various sections of the flowers to cut from the remaining loose paper. Mount with mounting foam. 7. Some of the wallpapers (checked, striped, small patterns) look almost exactly like some of the "background" papers that you would buy from some of the Rubber Stamp Companies (for example: Embossing Arts). You can use the smaller wallpaper samples as background in the same way that you would use these background papers. 8. You can use it to make book covers. Either the same way that you used to cover your school books, OR if you want a permanent neat cover, you can cut the wallpaper slightly bigger than the book (paperback, blank book, etc.) when it is closed. Then glue it onto the book (while the book is closed) and let it dry (put weight on top if it looks like it might not dry flat.. If there is an indention along the spine of the book, make sure to get the wallpaper into (as much as possible) that indentation. When the glue is dry, trim off the excess paper. 9. You can use it either as single pieces or as a college to cover "ugly" boxes that you might want to use to hold stuff on your desk, paper mache boxes, hat boxes, gift boxes, etc. After you cover the boxes, you can fill them and use them as gifts. Especially if you seal them after making them, with a spray or brush on finish. If the wallpaper isn't heavy enough on it's own for the boxes and such, you can either glue two pieces back to back so it is patterned on both sides, and use that, or you can glue it to heavy paper or cardstock. Written by Judith Perry AKA Dragonhome Copyright 09/01/96 Judy "Dragonhome" Perry - ------------------------------------------- Welcome to the Wonderful World of Wallpaper!!! Use the purple capped glue stick to glue it to itself when making envelopes. Use the wallpaper to cover all kinds of things; cans boxes whatever. You now have layering materials for the rest of your life ! Make stunning mini-book bindings. And more . . . . Feathers - ---------------------------------------- Hi - I don't stamp on the wall paper. I don't know if others do. One thing I was doing (I grew tired of it), lots of times the samples come like a full sheet and a corresponding border, usually with some sort of picture (wildlife in this case). I made an envelope of the big sheet and cut a piece out of the border to glue on the front of a simple card. Now i think I will mostly use the wallpaper to make envelopes (for miscellaneous things, not rubberstamped cards). My problem is how to seal them, I just use clear packaging tape but it's not pretty! The cards I received are from: Sharon Duensing: She layered cardstock using Evo's templates, a mauve colored cardstock as the card, then cream colored, and green all layered on different angles and to finish it off a giraffe by Don Mechanic Enterprises that was stamped in brown on a paper that she created with the faux leather technique. I love using that technique and it's effective with the giraffe. Tina:Parchment cardstock in a cream color stippled with brown, layered with corrugated brown, cream color cs decoratively edged with a small giraffe embossed in gold, very nicely done. Lindaloo:Navy duplex cardstock with the interior color an orange confetti. On the front is the giraffe by Wildlife Enterprises, Just a Note by Stampendous is embossed in a sand like ep, between the images is a circle cut out which displays the image stamped on the inside of the drinking giraffe from Embossing Arts. Very nice, I have both of those stamps and enjoyed seeing them used in a different technique. Becci Thomas:Brown cs with raffia bow, a corner piece of giraffe print background paper with just the head of a giraffe stamped and embossed in brown, highlighted with a golden brown and then layered on a dark brown cs. Love the image, who is he by? Loved the contrasts you used. Brenda Volpe-Cream color paper with giraffe block print stamped in brown along the outer edge, 3D vinyl on the left edge with the stamped image of a giraffe neck and head in brown on cream color paper. Using this techinque really made him "pop" off the paper, great idea! Thanks for hosting this swap Tina, appreciate your time and efforts. Has anyone ordered this before? They listed the price as $19.95. Does that include shipping? Thanks, Cynthia >> Hi Cynthia! I have seen Paper Salad, and while the idea is a good one, I think the price is outrageous!! Believe me, I "know" what paper costs, and what paper weighs... and 2 lbs amounts to only about 60 sheets of cardstock. At $19.95 for small bits equaling 60 sheets worth.... well.... why not buy one of my samplers and make your own Salad!! (kinda like "salad in a bag" costs more than a head of lettuce that you cut up yourself!) Hey... maybe I should name a sampler "Head of Lettuce and a Tomato" LOL!! - -Fran the Frantic Stamper :-@ http://www.angelfire.com/biz/franticstamp This message was from FranRShaw - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum.
