Every item I received is absolutely a true work of art. This has to be the best group of swap items I have ever received. I feel like people accidentally sent their submissions for Somerset Studio to me!! WOW!! Forgive me in advance for the poor descriptions. Words will fail me, I'm sure. Stamper Shelley made a super collage pin. The base is deckle-edged black fun foam (?), but it really looks more like a piece of slate. On a very thin layer of Paper Clay, she has stamped a tribal rabbit in purple ink. This medallion is sewn onto the black fun foam with green thread and the same green thread, holding a tiny feather, is wrapped around a twig (also mounted on the fun foam). Finally dangling from the twig is the end of the thread with another tiny feather, a square silver bead and a tribal oval bronze bead. I wish I could achieve the balance that you present here. Everything is just right and the green thread really ties everything together ! Shirley Ginn made a square terra cotta card which opens like French doors. She used a hieroglyphics rollagraph to make a faint and perfectly straight background (HOW did you do that?). A big tribal mask was embossed, cut out and mounted to the front. The card opens to show two tribal women and tribal hands. I would love to know your technique for the rollagraph. Very rich card. Justine Tamaro also made a perfectly balanced collage card - starting with a terra cotta cardstock, a slightly smaller speckled cardstock which has a kokopelli embossed in bronze in the lower corner. Then layered in all the right spots were a white mulberry with terra cotta spirals, green corrugated paper, crumpled and smoothed kraft paper with a tribal deer stamped on and a great marbled mulberry paper. So many neat textures in this card. wvm@juno.com started with a green cardstock and used a little white mulberry in opposing corners. On this was layered a brown speckled cardstock which has petroglyphs stamped in various intensities with brown ink. A VERY thin little medallion made of Sculpey was stamped with a petro and rubbed with acrylic paint. It was then attached to the card with brown thread and even the knots are perfect!! I just love this! DK Stoneman made a book that I will never do justice to. Mostly because I have NO idea how she did most of this (and I thought I could figure out anything). The cover of this book looks ancient! She has used the paint splatter rollagraph in brown and there are lots of gray marbled patches that seemed to have bled intentionally. Intermingled in these are petro images in the same colors. One corner is corrugated about 1 inch in. There is also a very fine gold sheen over the whole cover. The pages are cut with a deckle edge and have various images and paint splatters throughout. This is an amazing creation!! Talk about amazing. Sandra Luck made absolutely stunning piece of art in the style of cave wall paintings, matted too!! I may get all these guesses wrong, but here goes. She stamped various petro images on watercolor paper and then watercolored over them in shades of green and brown. She then hand drew (?) in more images. This was matted with a black frame. On two sides of the mat, Sandra has embossed more petro/tribal images in silver gold and bronze. It is incredible and I will frame it and hang it, so that I can enjoy it every day. Each package contains one sheet (19"x30") each of the following 10 colors (blue, green, yellow, red, magenta, pink, brown, kahki, purple, and orange) for $3.50 + $1 shipping. Not just your regular tissue, Spectra Art Tissue is tinted with a dye that is water-based and not permanent. If you wet it, the dye will come off, so you can use it to get very pretty watercolor effects (for background!) You can also glue this down with a glue stick or spray adhesive. But the neatest way of using it, is to cut a shape, wet it, then lay it down on your card (before you stamp). Wait a few minutes for the color to work out, and lift it off. The color stays behind for a very pretty watercolor effect. You can re-use the piece as the colors last a long time, but fade with each use. After Aug. 10th, the price will go to $5.50 per package (+$1 shipping). How much fun it was to find this on the doorstep! I've known it was coming- oh! the anticipation killed me! The Stampin' Up catalog was my favorite thing in the package! How I wanted one of those- now I want one of all the stamps I think! LOL. I'm going to call a friend who has been dying to see it and gloat :) The kids had that nice stationary paper out and cut with the those neat scissors before I could say Boo! My brother just had knee surgery and they were making cards "for Unca Keith" and I was so warmed to the cockles o' my heart for their thoughtfulness I *couldn't* say "but that's MY paper"! But- I digress...( and they only used two anyway) I have 9 different Fiskars paper edgers (love them) but you got one I didn't have- and it looked way cool on those Uncle Keith cards! Thank you. :) I loved the little stamps- gingerbread men are one of my favorite things- but I think this is my first rubberstamp of one. And of course hearts and buttons are on the favorite list. And the third stamp that says you're a star- will be perfect to stamp on the chore chart me and the kids just started and they'll be so tickled! I'll use it as the seal of approval when they've finished. Thank you! My kids are number one with me, and this is something neat to share with them :) And I was real excited to get to the bottom and find the north american animals set!! I had nothing like it, and they are neat stamps, and in one swoop you like doubled or tripled my stmaping repretoire- these are so great to get! I will use them so much Thank you thank you! What fun it is to be your sss. You're very thoughtful, and i'm looking forward to exchanging emails with you through this itsasecret mailbox! If I wanted to send something to you, could I send it back through Cyndi to you? You're curious about my style (Speaking of which, so am I!? Ack) Maybe I could send you some of what I made? Like to anyway. hope to see what youmake too! Or maybe I already have in some swap... ooh the curiosity kills me! Thanks for the smiles and good time today opening your package!! Talk to again soon, Kristin This message was from "happyacre" - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum. You live in Guam and sent *me* a hand-stamped B-day card?!?! WOW!!! I love your nick, and the card is just won-der-ful!! How did you get that "faded plaid look" as the background?? I looked you up on C.Piet's faithful RS addy list, & read that you're new to stamping - well I sure can't tell!! I'm having a hard time not gushing here, 'cause I was so surprised & delighted. Each B-day remembrance from this list was special - call me silly, but I didn't know each thought would mean so very much; didn't know what a RAK felt like! And then, after I thanked each person, your card came to me today. I used to be a travel agent in a past life; didn't make it to Guam, but sure have a love of many parts of this world in the travels of my imagination! Thank you, thank you!! You, and the network of wonderful people that make up this amazing list must never underestimate the lives you touch!!!
