She had an Aortic Valve Replacement done yesterday and it took the drs 5 hours to do it. When we saw her last night, she was still with the ventilator tubes and also still out. She awoke this morning and told my Dad and sisters that she was feeling fine and stronger than the last time. They had taken out all the tubes and was already feeling better. Of course, she was on painkillers and other medication. I would like to take this opportunity now to thank everyone who asked to send her get well cards and for all your thoughts and prayers. I know there are alot of you out there who have been so kind to do this for others and I knew I could count on you when I needed you the most. So, from the bottom of my heart a very big Thanks. We are very grateful and now must face the long road to recovery. Please continue your prayers and I will keep you all informed if anything else comes up. I am still not home and am not re-subbed back to the list yet so if you need to contact me, please do so privately. Again, we are most grateful and appreciated your kindness. I think you will LOVE your HALOS! :}> > Hi, EVO!! Understatement of the century!! I had been resisting this system for Soo long, even though so many people raved about it. (I tend to rebel in the oddest ways..) I've been collecting Unms for years, mounting some on foam and using double stick tape, and simply taping the die to a wood mount with foam already attached in some cases. But I often got ink where I didn't want it on my paper from the foam-on-the-mount system and got frustrated with bent and disintegrating foam on some of my dies. I decided to try the vinyl cling system because it was shown to me at a show and the cling really stuck well and seemed to be a cost-effective system.. Also, if I wanted to trade or sell my dies, they could be easily used in any system. ( I was afraid that the HALOS tape would make my dies unsellable..). The vinyl cling has worked really well and I will continue to use it on the dies that I already have it on.. But I found I needed to be clean and neat with this system--Very frustrating! When I scratch the mount or the vinyl cling or (heaven forbid) get finger prints, EP, dust, etc near my worksite, the die won't stick well. In those rare times when inspiration flows, I personally need to run with it and not struggle with or take time to clean my mounting system. And when I tried to store my images in a binder, the foam squashed and took up alot of room from the foam+the image. Then, in a swap, I got an image with the HALOS tape on the back. The Halos held well, printed really well, and THE HALOS TAPE PEELED OFF THE DIE WHEN I WANTED IT TOO! So, when I ordered a paper special from you, I ordered some HALOs to try with some of my UNMs. When I got my order, I mounted some of my most *challenging* Unms and was absolutely thrilled!! From the smallest to the larger, more challenging dies, the system not only worked, but exceeded my expectations! I can be messy, I can throw them around my desk, I can coat the backs of the dies with EP, even scratch the mounts, and they still hold and print like a dream!! I can throw them in a box (bending doesn't hurt) or mount them in a binder (they are much less bulky and don't squash...And the small dies won't get lost because they stick so well to the hook tape I store them on! So a belated *Thank you*!! If it weren't for my great relationship with you, --thanks to Mr. Evo's inablility to count and my addiction to your paper-- I probably wouldn't have been so bold and impetuous to order on impulse (this *IS* a whole new system, after all..)! Hi, I came home from vacation to some beautiful cards. Thanks, Deni, for hosting and for the nice insert. I always feel that I don't do the cards justice, but here goes: From Justine Tamaro a card that uses rust confetti cardstock as its base. On top is a tan card with a kokopelli person and spirals embossed in copper. Next a piece of white mulberry paper which also has some of the copper spirals. A small piece of gold and black textured paper is next, topped with a small square of dark green corrugated paper. The final touch is a piece of kraft paper with a petroglyph reindeer. The whole effect is unusual and stunning!! From DK Stoneman a multi-paged card in the most intriguing shape and color combination. She used a lemon cover and used the rollagraph spatter wheel and brown ink, but there is also some faint black on there. Over this she has stamped her own petroglphs in a light black. The paper inside is also lightly stamped and spattered. I have examined this card so many times. It's just fascinating! From Kathie Mulder a card that begins with a lavender base with darker purple edging the corners. Then there is a rectangle of forest green and finally a rectangle of ivory cardstock with a kokopelli person playing to a bird. The images look like they are embossed with verdigris....very pretty. A. Hawks did a card that is lovely and is a masterpiece of corner cutting. She began with white, added deep red with images embossed in gold. Next comes some tan and a smaller piece of red. The topping is a small square of white with a bird (?) image embossed in gold. She added two tiny turquoise arrow heads at each end. Each of these pieces has been cut in a stairstep design on the corners and lined up perfectly....beautiful work and use of color and design!! Finally--from Danielle Cote--Is she on the list?? The base cardstock is black, followed by red with a gold lines in a pattern. Then comes a large piece that is colored in orange, green red, and yellow. It has a rather large kokopelli stamped almost in a shadow image and very fine gold stamping over the colors. It must be glazed, but how?? This card is fantastic and I have a zillion questions about how it was done. Thanks so much, all of you. I just made an old family recipe yesterday - I used to wait for the leftovers so I could take it to school in a Thermos for lunch...mmmmm...can't wait for supper now!! Here's the recipe: 3 lbs. ground beef 3 small tins tomato paste 3 large tins tomato paste 1 onion - cut into chunks 1 green pepper - cut into chunks 6 cloves garlic oregano pepper Brown the beef in a large high-sided skillet. Blend in the tomato paste. In a blender, liquifey the following: 1 cup water 1 chunk of your onion some of the green pepper 2 cloves garlic 1/4 tsp. black pepper 1/4 tsp. oregano When liquid, fold into the meat mixture. Repeat this 2 more times (you will have blended 3 cups of water with the veggies and spices). Transfer to a large pot. Cover, venting the side just a crack. Simmer ob LOW for 3 hours, stirring occasionally so it doesn't stick to the bottom (even with PAM it can stick). This freezes really well, and lasts a while. It's thick, tasty and easy to make. Dear Ria, Once upon a time the only place to talk about rubberstamping on the UseNet was in rec.crafts.misc. There was a small community of us, actually much larger than we knew since a lot of us can probably be identified as 'long term lurkers'. One day a nice lady named Janet mentioned that she was involved with the SP Genie, and that she would look into getting us our very own mailing list. Seems she had some 'connections' and had friends everywhere! Since I didn't have a clue what a mailing list was and she sounded so informed and intelligent....of course I sent my email of approval to her to 'go for it'. ;) It was with great effort and much hard work and 'connections' that one day Janet made it happen. Now, I'm sure she had lots of help but my poor, tired brain can't remember much more than that....so please don't have hurt feelings if I've forgotten someone else who was instrumental in putting it together. All I remember is that one day in rec.crafts.misc Janet said 'Do this.' It was instructions to join the RS Mailing List on Genie. Not being one to say no to someone who spoke with such authority, I did as I was told. I think it was in the very early part of 1995. Only Janet (or whomever else was instrumental....) would know the exact date. Oh, maybe Dad Frank remembers. (But then, we're ALL old as dirt and rocks so I wouldn't count on it.) So, I've been around as long as that dirt...I just don't say much...or speak in spurts...I guess this classifies as one of my quarterly spurts! ;) It really doesn't matter how long you've been here....ONLY THAT YOU MADE IT! It was wrapped in brown paper, with the simplest design on the front. The words SSS and AUG separated by strawberries, all over 1" tall, wrapped around a corner. Very clean looking! The first thing I saw absolutely knocked me flat when I got a closer look. Now I've been at this stamping thing for almost two years. I've been to a few conventions, seen a few swap card collections, but I have NEVER EVER seen anything like the cards. There are four cards, all different, in clear envys, tied up with a lavender satin bow. Each card has a background stamped and/or sponged, simple images. But the key decoration on each card is unmounted stamps glued right on the card! One card is an ocean at sunset (sunrise?) with a compass rose stamped top left. There is a rubber sun up in the sky, a two ended arrow on the compass rose, a boat, fish, and octopus in the sea. Get the concept? My favorite is a vertical card separated in to 4 triangles by a big X. One quarter has the word Queen stamped in red all over it with a crown stamp attached, the next has bumble bees and the words Bee Your Self with a beehive stamp, the next is a stressed out man's face with a stamp of the word JEEPERS!, and last is 4 Chinese characters (that basically translate to "victory in the anti-Japanese war", a.k.a. WWII) with a tiny stamp of a Chinese kid carrying a big bundle (I think). Two of the cards have coordinated confetti in them. I just can't believe how simply amazing they are. The last two: a pale star background (big stars) with stamps of several moons, a star and a couple planets, and a full card sized stamped image of a music score in rainbow colors with stamps of a treble clef, two notes, and "Write Soon". Everyone in my office is dumfounded by the fabulousness of these cards. I do have two technique questions for my wondrous SSS, how did you ink the music, and where the heck did you get that Chinese calligraphy stamp (and did you know what it means)?? As my in-laws lived in Shanghai during that war, they'll appreciate the sentiment. I would have been thrilled with just those cards alone in the box....But Wait There's More!!.... Wrapped in gold star tissue were two gargoyle stamps (perfect for my architectural component collection!!). One was mounted quite expertly by my SSS (the indexing is perfect!). Then there's a little 3" square card, looks like rivers and landscapes but I later decide it's a redwood tree trunk stamped several times (am I right?, and is that another Herbarium stamp? Love it, gotta have it). Stapled inside is a tiny baggie of silver charms, mostly snowflakes and leaves. Can hardly wait to play with them! Then there was a beautiful selection of dusty colored cardstock (the green is my favorite), and 16 sheets of Spectra tissue paper complete with instructions on how to use it (love instructions, keep 'em coming!). Last, but not least was a small folded flower (you know, like one of those coin purses, only with points on the petals). Beautifully stamped tied up with a ribbon (I untied and tied it several times to remember how you did it). Inside is a note from my SSS. Don't know about Daniel Day Lewis as Lestat, how about Boris Gudinof in his younger days (with Tom Cruises attitude and acting)? Loved Memnoch. The writing was wonderful, and the subject matter made perfect sense to me. Much more so than traditional Christian theories. I liked Memnoch a bit better than The Body Thief. So, SSS, were you as annoyed between the vampire books 2 and 3 as I was? Book two ended like a chapter, not like a book. Then we had to wait almost two years for the next book. Alas, I ramble on. I will close by saying to my SSS that your use of stamps has taken me to new levels of stamping. I can see many more possibilities in my images to day than I did yesterday.
