First, your may have too much ink on the stamp. The embossing in can puddle in places that are of fine detail and when stamped, you've stamped the puddle and embossed it, too. Try turning the stamp over and holding the ink pad in you hand. Tap gently (don't push the pad into the stamp) over the stamp so you can see how much ink is on it. If you are still getting an undesireable result, you may need to try one of the new fine line embossing powders that have come out. The powder is ground a lot finer than normal, so it will emboss finer. I think Tonya Rilling still sells this, right Tonya? It comes in Gold, Black and mayber a few other colors, too Ginny Happy Rubber Stamps 4426 E. 118th Ct Thornton, CO 80233-1781 Catalog $3.75 with um happyrubbe On Fri, 22 Aug 1997 12:26:43 -0700 Gloria writes: >When ever I try to emboss a detailed stamp it comes out all yucky and >you can't see the details any more. The first is to use detail ep. This is ep made especially for detailed stamps and it does make a big difference. The second thing to do is to use colored ink and clear powder. The reason you lose the detail is that the powder melts together. When you use clear pwder the same thing happens *but* it doesn't matter because it's clear. The color is underneath and the color maintains the detail. Another thing to experiment with is the paper you're using. Glossy paper will just about always give you more details. I'm not crazy about glossy and I use matte coat which also gives good details. Try not to get your stamp too wet. Finally, use a cold heat gun (that is, one that hasn't been warmed up for a few minutes). In the beginning the air won't be hot enough to ment the powder and will blow some off. This technique really helped me when I was embossing a detailed sunflower. Enough blew off so that more detail showed through. Ultimately though, detailed stamps aren't the best to emboss. No matter what you do you will lose some detail. Sometimes this is OK. Sometimes its not and I use dye ink because I really want every little detail. Good luck! My envelope arrived looking very water-stained, but thanks to the trusty Ziploc bag - all artwork was safe and sound!!! It definitely pays to remember that little step. Deni Johnson - what a beautiful blue-toned card! The base layer of blue cardstock has a silver emblem stamped, next was a wave-cut rectangle of lighter blue with darker blue emblems. Then a rectangle of brown corrugated paper with silver beads in every other "ditch". Finally a white tassle was attached to the card with a wafer of blue sealing wax (also impressed with the emblem in silver ink. Very sophisticated card. Carlene Czarnik (Deni, you have to get her on the list - she is such a talented stamper!!) made a beautiful using the leaf cube They were embossed in bronze on brown cardstock which gives a tone-on-tone appearance (I sound like a hair color commercial). Then four leaves were stamped on green paper and embossed in bronze, then cut out and mounted over a corresponding leaf on the base card (with foam tape). Finally a quote and attribution were printed with green ink on really cool paper and torn (?) out and placed on the card. Just gorgeous! Stargazer really is the Queen of Joseph's Coat. I may have to try this again - yours looks so wonderful. She started with light blue cardstock added a thin burgundy strip to the right and a diagonnal thicker strip of blue in the upper right corner. Over these are layered four emblems done in Joseph's Coat and cut out. I like that use of JC!! Another great example of balance in a card, too. Marci Williams - I had a weird deja-vu flash when I saw this one! She used the Judikins gumball machine and filled it up with M&Ms. She cut out another handle, colored it silver and mounted it (3D) over the original. Finally one M&M was mounted at the opening - yummy!! Lastly a really pretty floral card done by ??? It is one blue cardstock with the phrase "Wishing You Much Happiness on This Very Special Day!" stamped with rainbow ink in the center. A frame is formed by alternating a flower from one of the cubes and a really nice spring of leaves. A few of the petals on each flower are watercolored (?). Weilert) Subject: RS: Rec's Stampin' Up swap! -LONG There is tons of talent on this list! Denise (QVC4ME@aol.com) & I sent ours in together, and these are the cards we received: unknown- A simple yet elegant Thank you card with matching envelope, stamped with Thank You, and a flower. Debi Lym- a way kewl layered card, featuring the tribal looking turtle stamped on cardstock which was brayered with liquid applique. This is cut out with deckle edge Fiskars, layered on a diagonally placed rectangle of grey atroparche, which is stamped with more tribal images and corrugated. The card itself is creme and stamped with tribal images. Blue raffia is layered between the card and rectangle. Cynthia Serrano embossed an angel bunny on white with I'm guessing fine line black EP (am I right?) She appears to be colored in using markers and a blender pen. She is cut out and layered over a wet torn oval of white mulberry paper. This is placed upon royal blue on one side/white on the other cardstock, and punched with fancy corner punches ( don't know what this design is called.) The message is stamped in matching blue and reads"Little words of Kindness... Little Acts of Love... Bring us just a little bit of Heaven from above." Val Kildaw created a nifty background for her card using a mushroom brush tamped on a pastel kaleidacolor pad. This background surrounds an Imaginations frame embossed in gold. Inside are some cows in dresses, hugging, sunflowers, another cow, and a milkcan/sunflower scene which reads "what's moo?" All on glossy white cardstock, accented with a little burgundy bow. Very nicely done! Lisa Marie- On glossy cardstock she speckled pastel colors (lavendar, pink blue), edged the corners with rounders and punched out little hearts from each corner. Stamped on white with black ink and colored with markers, the Somebuny Special bunny is mounted in the center with mounting foam. Under her right hand are the carrots from the same set. Embossed in a holographic black sparkly EP is the saying "You're Somebunny Special" stamped diagonally in the right corner. Thank for the great ideas; I own this set too! Unknown (Dar?)- On grey paper she/he stamped elements from one of the all-season sets, forming an uneven border along the bottom. This is edged in green glitter and the entire paper is layered over lt green paper, with a bit showing beyond the uneven edge. Very effective! A bow of matching fabric is attached to the front diagonallly in the left corner. Inside the repeated element is continued, and the message reads " A life richly blessed is one enriched by true friends." Along the inside bottom of the card are maple leaf shaped punches, showing the grey. So many ideas! Karen (karker@get.net)- On tan speckly cardstock she has layered a scarecrow scene stamped on white with blak ink. It includes pumpkins and cornstalks and grass. Cenetered is the message "Happy Harvest". The white layer is edged with brown marker. The neatest thing I liked it the way the white cardstock and the tan card are both cut in on the corners; kind of the opposite effect of a corner rounder; what did you use to do this Karen? Sharon, the Mouse Potato- On white cardstock and edgfed with ruffly paper lace, she dry embossed ribbons and a lacey border. Centered she stamped a stylish heart, in which she stamped stemmed roses. For baackground are some similarly styled elements, stamped using the same pinky rainbow pad. Inside she edged a square using more elements from the same Bold Heart & Flower set around a thoughtful William Wardsworht quote. Ant Judy- On pink half sheet of cardstock he created a mini scrapbook page using newspaper stamp, stars, and exclamation bursts. The banner reads " you light up my life". She used oval shapes for one photo and recatangle shapes for the other, and deckle edge scissors. Cindy (MacVR@aol.com) used kid theme stamps and a kaleidacolor pad to stamp a card bordered with the caryon stamps. The central image is the kids holding a banner, which reads "Hi!" Around this are sparkly stamps in matching colors. Along the inside edge is a strip of crayon patterned ribbon. Very nice! All cards were great! Many thanks to the hostess for her efforts and for the wallpaper envy, UM, and image she sent each of us! Thanks everyone! Also I bought all the colors of the detailed EP that Tonya Rilling sells in her Detailed EP grab bag and they are wonderful! I also have the Think Ink Fineline EP in black from Baggie (now Jutta, I think) and this one is good also! Keep working w/ that detailed stamp, and don't give up... Hope this helps!
