Hi, Linda . . . sounds like you have a LOT on your plate right now! I know how it is to be overloaded . . . never have time to do anything for yourself (like read the list, or stamp for your own fun!). In defense of Quaking, I'd like to say that asking "Where have you been?" really isn't a very volatile comment. FYI, I've been on the list about six weeks, and I've seen several posts by Quaking. And none of them have ever been unkind or inflammatory . . . in fact, quite the opposite. I'm sorry you're having back trouble--that is the absolute pits. I think people who've never had it have no idea how it can color everything you do (and usually, the color is black, but sometimes it's raging red or orange!). Hang in there! It's not necessary for you to read the tabloids. You watch celebrities when they are caught on film & shown on TV. You might read "respectable" magazines that have a story on a celebrity. You read the newspapers. Those of you watching all the "news" stories right now are hoping for glimpses of family & friends & the 2 princes. There is no way that family can grieve in private. You're seeing the re-hashing of almost everything that Diana was ever shown in. On some level you are "enjoying" (a bad choice of words I know--don't jump me for it, please) seeing the celebrities you like talking about Diana. Sure there are times when the press & the cameras are welcome & we watch that. But we also love the off-guard times--no matter how "legitimate" the means of showing it to us. Was Diana ever allowed to go anywhere or do anything without the press following her? In the little bit of coverage I saw (DH kept flipping the channels) I had to wonder if Diana had permanent spots before her eyes from all the flashing cameras. I still maintain--and please don't misread this or read things into it as you seem to be doing-- I still maintain that on SOME level we (including me) are all ultimately responsible because we want to know about our celebrities. A lot of you felt close to her somehow. You wore your hair like hers. Your babies were born around the same time. You were married on the same day. You mourn for her because you knew her--and the only way you could know her is through the news media. And make no mistake--I mourn for her, too. I never paid that much attention to any of the royal family, so it surprises me how much her death bothers me. It was just so senseless. The Boyfriend Part Deux The boyfriend has been hard at work on his masterpiece since 4:00 pm with an hour break for supper (total time 2:20) and he really outdid me! He used 15 of my rubberstamps plus his 1 (didnt' touch the 2 stencils though) and the Crayola mini-stampers and just went to town! He colored everything in with color pencils and I'm so shocked! I saw the pre-colored version and I wasn't too impressed because I didn't think all the stamps would go together well, but all I can say now is WOW! He made a rainbow across the page using letters and the rainbow stamp pad, above that he used his femmy decorative border stamp (a heart with little flowers in curlicues on either side) and on the top 2 corners he has the little Mary Engelbreit moon and my ANM Joy Angel. Below the rainbow (5 rows of the repeated word 'rainbow' lettered in different colors) he stamped a sun (Stamp Clinic), cactus (Hook's Lines & Inkers) and 2 lizards (same). On the left side of the page he stamped the Stamp Clinic hula girls, bubble blowers and bubble girls, and the hot sauce and chile peppers from RBBB. On the right side of the page he has my big Mary Engelbreit teapot, the little teapot, and the row of 6 teapots. Around all this he stamped a long line of Judith ladybugs, and mini-stamper butterflies. He drew in his own grass and mini-stamped clovers on it. He has a great eye for color! I wish y'all could see it! It's such an odd juxtaposition of images, but it works! I've learned a lot from HIM! LOL! Anyway, he says now that he's all stamped out until I get new stamps. LOL! He doesn't want to join any swaps because he says that if it's not going to be a masterpiece, it's not worth doing at all! Just thought I'd share this with all of you. Do I get the toaster oven now?
