They slant the news any way they want to. They tell us what they want us to hear. My husband listens to news around the world via shortwave--and the news he hears is sure different from ours. I remember reading what seemed to be a fairly complete interview with someone (can't remember who now--isn't important). This person seemed to be pretty level-headed & a nice guy. The next day I happened to see an excerpt of that interview in our newspaper--and one quote TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT made the guy seem like an egotistical jerk. I am not exaggerating. What "news" show was it that staged those vehicles blowing up to prove they were unsafe. What news investigators planted rotten meat at Food Lion to expose them. You think Baba WaWa doesn't slant her news stories? Let's talk reality here. I have an old (1800s) history text book. Want to hear how horribly nasty the "redskins" were then? History is re-written to be politicallly correct--isn't that a laugh. There are varying degrees to our guilt, but we're all guilty. We're all different-- but we're all the same, too. And I have no more to say on this. It's kind of pointless anyway. The funny thing about this, though, is that Dad Frank and I just finished setting up topics for our weekly Design Forum chat on Dueling Modems (sponsor of the list, in case you've already started not to see the little tag dealie at the end of posts) ... and we talked about what might interest people here, talked about telling this group about our weekly nooner conferences, since right now the Dueling Modem chat server is still open to the public. We know that sooner or later it will go "members only" the way the message base is, but it doesn't seem to be a high priority with management right now which is A-OK with us. But I digress (could it be the painkillers I'm taking?)... anyway, one of our ideas for a topic was BACKGROUNDS! Of course we're talking about web page backgrounds, but one of my best tips for getting a neato Frito web page background is to draw/paint/create it yourself. So it's related. Sorta kinda. Like, uh, once you get a nice background for a card you really like, why not have it scanned and use it as a web page background? We also scheduled in a watercolor background conference hour, too. Watercolors make such fast and easy (and impressive) backgrounds. Anyways, here in a minute or three (or tomorrow if I lay down before I get it done) I'll put up the schedule we came up with, so if you want to chat with the Design Forum people (Frank and me, mainly), you'll know what days we're talking about what things. And I just know EVERYBODY will want to mark their calendars for Wednesday, Oct. 29, noon Eastern time zone, for the watercolor background one. The neatest background I've done lately was random color stripes with a brayer. I used analogous colors, just randomly brayered stripes here and there, then when the paper looked like something I liked, I stamped and embossed on top of this with a high contrast color embossing powder. (I mean, like on the one I'd used yellows and oranges on, I put the image on top with black, and the one I used blues and purples and deep toned sky colors, I used the white sparkle EP for the image) There. My substantive comment for the day. I think I am going to go back to bed now. ========================================================================= Janet Detter Margul | Real women don't have hot flashes... I agree with you... Everyone says that this list is like a family. Well, have you thought about what your family and relatives are like. Sometimes things are "peachy-keen" (like Christmas -gifts- ) sometimes we are not speaking to someone cus' they made us mad, sometimes we raise our voices and speak our minds then make up (each in his/her own way), and sometimes we like to just be with other members and talk, vist, share, etc... I guess what I am trying to say is that if we are like a family than we are going to do all of these things plus all the other emotions a family has. We care for, nurture, and try to uplift each other. Yet even though these are the things we want to do sometimes we each show our own unique individualism. We have to like/love each other for who we are and continue to have fun!!! Be yourself and no one can ask for anymore than that. Its really beautiful! >From Michelle Lim a Zetti Log Book, an accordian style booklet bound with copper wire and beads with each page individually stamped. Elaine Normandy did a Stampscapes style card using a Zetti image as the center focus. Very pretty, and in it's own envelope decorated with Zetti print. Sady Kavanagh sent a card in blue/greens with Zetti images cut out and pasted on the background of postal cancellations. This was mounted on another card with map print on it. Turtle Man Frank made a way cool card, the top of a planet with very strange plant life growing from the planet. In the sky are stars and Zetti images...all mounted on layers of paper..very nicely done. I was fortunate to receive one of Kim's creations. This thing is nothing short of amazing to me. It's a pocket book, the cover is made of corrugated paper that she has rusted. First time I have seen the results of rusting...now I have to have it. Anyway, the book is tied with rafia, a very nice package. Inside is a booklet made from in Kim's words.."pocket book is constructed of recycled card stock dyed with spectra art tissue". It's in earth tones. The cover page is a Zetti image stamed on copper and embossed with verdigre ep, then she explained she heated it over a gas flame. This gives a varigated coloring that is really neat. Pocket #1 contains an expalnation of what is in the book. Pocket #2 contains a card with a sculpty image on it attached to a paper that has been high embossed and again layered on a ripple corrugated paper. Pocket #3 contains a bound booklet that is a map with really beautiful paper as the cover. Pocket #4 holds a shrink plastic image in an envelope made from acryllic paint and sand texture. I can't even begin to do this creation justice in words, but believe me I am honored to own it. And...no, you can't have it! LOL! Thanks again Kim, this is a wonderful swap.
